"Mystery Writers of America, Inc. was established in 1945 by a dozen or so like-minded mystery writers for the purpose of promoting and protecting the interests and welfare of mystery writers and to increase the esteem and literary recognition given to the genre." Their homepage gives information on the organization, meetings, and membership; mystery awards; mystery conventions and classes; and links to mystery author's pages.
Police Writers Club

"The Police Writers Club provides police writers with the knowledge, resources and networking capabilities to share their expertise with others through the written word. Both fiction and nonfiction writing and publishing are covered. A quarterly newsletter, "The Police Writer," keeps members informed of news and opportunities in police writing. Current members include writers of magazine articles, technical books, true crime articles, books, and novels. The Club welcomes both published and unpublished writers. The Police Writers Club site offers information and resources for those interested in writing about fiction or non-fiction law enforcement topics, including mysteries. Publications are offered through a partnership with Amazon.com, and members' book are showcased so everyone can celebrate their successes. Links to helpful Web sites are accessible through the PWC site, and local and national crime news is displayed and updated daily. Details about the annual conference are given, and the membership application can be completed over the Internet."
