Established by an act of Congress in 1909, the AFA is the oldest and most comprehensive organization of its kind, serving 550 museum members.

- The Northwest Pastel Society is a non-profit organization, founded in 1988, to promote pastel as a fine art medium; the NPS is affiliated with the International Association of Pastel Societies. The NPS site has links to current society news and an online member gallery. Members of NPS have access to a "members only" page, which includes a weekly chat line. The NPS can be contacted by e-mail, U.S.Post, or telephone. The site includes a print-and-mail membership form.
