Most relationships begin with some form of communication, whether it is verbal or non-verbal, so being able to communicate effectively is important for developing positive relationships whether with children of differing age groups or adults. The way we come across i.e. the tone and volume of our voice, our body language, whether we keep eye contact etc. and the messages this sends out is important because if we relate to others in a positive way then it will be easier to develop a more positive relationship. Another important factor of effective communication is being able to listen fully to what is being said and to respond in an appropriate way whether it is to another adult, a teenager or a child. To make sure you both fully understand
We could ask one of our local aboriginal back ground elder to come and visit our child care service and spent some time with the David for a few days till he settles down---this is with both parents’ permission and our supervision in the care service. If could also suggest Jack to make sure David spends time with his kinship family during weekends. Also David should be able to communicate with his mom Alice on a daily basis, at least on phone so that he can express any of his concerns to his mom.

Talking is the key thing that makes relationships work
Listening attentively and actually hearing what is being said and responding appropriately is key when building relationships as it shows that you are interested in what the child or young person is saying. Answering them appropriately is important and not judging them allows the child or young person to feel that they are being valued and that they are secure in what they’re saying to the adult. Positive body language is an essential principle in building relationships as it shows that you are interested and listening. The child or young person should always feel that what they are talking to you about will remain confidential. I feel I sometimes have the attention span
In our classroom we help children to learn and understand how to properly communicate by using words. The children learn the best way when they see an example set for themselves. The best way to teach them is by doing a roleplaying where the children get to see and participate in play. For example, how they get attention or get a toy from another child. For nonverbal kids we are using pictures sign language to communicate.

My parents always used to have a problem with me that I do not express myself and that made them feel as if I don’t love them even though they know I can do anything for them, but since I started to interact with them, I was able to show them how much they mean to me and how they play a major role in my life.
