The profession I have chosen to pursue is that of a Physician Assistant. My reason for this selection is because it gives you the independency of a Physician while having somewhat less responsibilities. A Physician Assistant provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician. Some of these services include but are not limited to examining and treating patients, diagnosing illnesses and counseling patients. In some case physician assistants are also tasked to prescribe medicine to patients. It is also the responsibility of the physician assistants to examine patients, as would a doctor, in order to obtain information about a patients’ physical condition. In some hospitals physician assistants could find themselves practicing medicine on teams with other physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare workers. They would examine, diagnose and treat a multitude of patients from a broad range of backgrounds. …show more content…
The top physician assistant specialties that currently spark my interest are the pediatric practice, the surgical practice and the emergency department. I have previously shadowed all three fields in my pervious journey to obtaining my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licenses. The fields interested me because of the work required and the environments they worked in. However, any field would be fine with me as long as their primary mission is focused on the bettering of patient’s health. Once receiving my certification, I then plan to switch from United States Air Force Reserves (USAF-R) and reenlist back into active duty as an officer. Becoming a physician assistant in the USAF has always been my ultimate goal in pursuing a career in the medical
What is a Physician Assistant? As a relatively new field of practice, this answer is often asked. Physician Assistants are also known as PAs. They practice medicine on a team all under the supervision of a doctor. The name is largely a misnomer as physician assistants are much more than mere “assistants”.
At my physician office, the staff always dress and act professionally. I have been going to my physician since I was 6, I have even job shadowed my physician. I do not recall a time my physician or his staff has ever been unprofessional. They are always dressed in scrubs or business casual. As a medical assistant, you can ensure your professional appearance by a few steps: always wear scrubs
Thank you for taking the time to review my personal statement on why I have chosen to embark on the journey to become a Physician Assistant. My story started several years ago, more than I care to count, when I stumbled into the health care world as a paramedic in rural Pennsylvanian. While in high school, I became friends with several other students who were actively volunteering with a local fire department. After hearing their stories about the things they were learning and doing I also joined a volunteer fire department, mostly out of curiosity. Over the course of a couple of years I discovered that the challenges that I encountered during training and responding to emergencies had unlocked some unrealized, more like unknown, drive inside
I have been able to work side-by-side with a Pathologists ' Assistant since day one and because of this, I fully understand their role in the medical society. I owe a lot of what I learned as a grossing technician to them because of their guidance, input, and examples. The more I asked them questions and the more I watched them work, the more captivated I became by their role and realized I wanted to be in their position. As a result, I believe that my close working relationship with the Pathologists ' and Pathologists ' Assistants, as well as the exposure and knowledge I have gained by working in the department will help me succeed, particularly in Loma Linda University 's Pathologists ' Assistant program. Loma Linda University is a good fit for me a few reasons.
I have gained so much from working with you, as well as my work in the hospital, and now look forward to furthering my education and becoming a person who will have a strong impact on people's health and well-being. I feel like a letter from you will be an incredible asset to my application, and I truly appreciate the time and effort that you will put in to help me take this next step in my life. Physician Assistant schools are both academically and mentally rigorous. Therefore, they require applicants who are incredibly motivated, have excellent study strategies, and have a strong work ethic.
Becoming an Anesthesia Assistant would allow me to work as a healthcare professional, help people in their time of need, and have an increasingly dynamic career. I know that my attention to detail, creativity, and critical thinking capacity developed over years working in the medical field make me an ideal candidate for the Master’s of Medical Science in Anesthesiologist Assistant program at Emory University. As my life progresses, I have created a desire for a profession that offers a varied assortment of opportunities. I find it gratifying to have a career that is not only rewarding for caring for surgical patients, but also the attraction of a career that is a life long learning process. The attractiveness of a career with different possibilities and education expansion is energizing and motivational.
After spending much of my time with doctors and surgeons, I have decided to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant. Upon graduating from Indiana Tech, I plan to attend graduate school to obtain a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies. There I will obtain the skills needed to pass the certification exam. In this career, I'll have the opportunity to give examinations, diagnoses, and treat patients under a licensed physician.
To earn the credentials “Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C), a PA will have to complete a master’s degree in professional school (typically 2-3 years) and obtain licensure according to state laws specific to one’s state.” (College, C.S, n.d) These are the situations and everyday things I should be expecting to see. P.A’s are the assistant to a doctor, so I will be doing everything the doctor does, but without getting paid as much
I want to become a Medical Assistant because I enjoy helping others, and making them feel better. Medical Assistant is not just a career for me, it’s a goal that I will achieve with much pride and honor, and prove wrong those people who keep telling me that I’m not going to make it. I’m not really good in science, but I’m going to push myself to try hard to achieve my goal. Don’t ever let anyone label you, be your own kind of person and make the “impossible” possible. I know that it’s not going to be easy because of all the things you have to learn and memorize to become a Medical Assistant.
I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.

Although there were many outstanding career paths I could follow, I believe the current path I am following is best for me. During this phase of my life as a forty-six year old mother of five and an active duty military wife, it has been a challenge returning to school after 26 years. I will approach this one step at a time, for I truly have no desire to peruse a degree higher than a bachelor’s degree program. At current my short-term goal is to focus on my associate’s degree in hopes that I have educated myself enough to peruse a career in Health Service Management. After working on this project I am slightly second guessing stopping at an associate, for only time will tell if I have made the right choice in my educational
As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. My parents were born and raised in a small town in Mexico where the highest level of education they received was fifth grade. I have worked since I was 14 years old to support my parents with bills, and also saving for college and my own vehicle.
I kept an open mind in clerkships, but didn’t experience a specialty that motivated me quite like EM. That was until I experienced Family Medicine. As a student in family medicine I enjoyed doing minor procedures such as wound care and phlebotomy, while also having the opportunity to see patients, develop treatment plans, and practice preventative medicine. As of today, I have completed three EM rotations and six weeks of Family Medicine. I realized that my passions are better encompassed by Family Medicine, and that my love of public health is intrinsically related to the daily practice of Family
One professor suggested numerous health-related programs, but only one stood out, Physician Assistant Studies. This particular program stood out because I reminisced back when my grandmother was ill and the PA on duty. The thought of the PA reminded me of how she cared for grandmother as my grandmother laid in the hospital bed. The PA made a difference in my life by simply guiding my mother and me on how to properly care for my grandmother. I became very interested in learning about the program.
