1. In the summer of 2017, I volunteered once a week for 6-8 weeks with an organization called The First Tee, which works with youth to teach them life skills via the game of golf. Starting as young as 5-6 years old, the participants learn to play golf and develop their skills in the sport, but a large aspect of the organization’s mission is to teach children life skills such as integrity, honesty, and responsibility. Through golf they learn to be courteous to those around them and to always act with integrity as well. My role was to help the other coaches run the golf classes, making sure they ran smoothly and that the students were safe and enjoying themselves. Through this experience, I was able to develop skills in several areas, such as team collaboration, as well as managing a class. I worked with at least one other coach for every class, so it was my responsibility to work well with my counterparts, and I also learned to supervise children and be an effective role model, which can be challenging with children so young. Young students often lack focus and the understanding of how to conduct themselves, but this was valuable in that it forced me to try different approaches to find the most effective in keeping them in control but also making sure they were happy. 2. Over the course of 9th and 10th grade, I volunteered on occasion at the San Francisco Food Bank. I did not volunteer on a consistent schedule, but the experience was valuable nonetheless, as I knew my work
I volunteered for the Product Recovery section that organized groceries and distributed them into certain boxes. HPFB is working to help prevent hunger and can provide four meals worth of food for
The organization, which I decided to volunteer two hours of my day to, was Cumac. Cumac is located in Paterson, New Jersey and they work to serve the people in the counties of Passaic, Paterson, and Northern New Jersey. They work with a staff of 21 and volunteers from all over to help people in need with food and supplies they would need to survive. Their mission statement is: “CUMAC feeds people and changes lives. It works to alleviate hunger and its root causes for those in need in Paterson, Passaic County, and northern New Jersey.”
One of the first times that I volunteered was for a summer camp at my church. At this camp, I was assigned to the craft station. Every morning we were in charge of gathering the materials to make the craft kit’s needed for that day 's crafts, and
Golf is a game of a lifetime. It is a game that anyone can play no matter age, gender, physical appearance, etc. Golf is a game that not only teaches physical and athletic ability, but also teaches many life lessons such as being honest and countless rules of golf etiquette. The “Golf: More than a game” trip will teach students about the beautiful history of the game of golf in America by visiting 3 of the most famous and historic golf clubs in America Augusta National Golf Club, Pebble beach Golf links, and The Pinehurst Resort. First, the students on the tour would visit the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
) If I were to be interviewed by local media about The First tee and was asked about the impact that it had on my life I would say it had a huge impact on my life that was very positive. I would tell them that the first tee taught me the 9 important core values I use when I’m playing golf and outside of golf. The 9 important core clues were honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. Being a part of the first tee as a girl is so amazing, I was in girl’s golf ever since I was 7 or 8 up until I was 13 years old until I joined into eagle classes.
In fact, I have been performing community service since I was very young. In middle school, I was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, I made my service project the donation of snacks, toiletries, and other items purchased in grocery stores. I would collect supplies, packaged them, and ship them to Marines stationed overseas. This NJHS community service project was inspired by my membership in the Young
I have actively participated in: The Chop-athon. An annual, school-offered event in which students cut vegetables and fruits for the disadvantaged and homeless. Cradles to Crayons.
Another role of a coach is a role model. A person who is a model in a particular behavioural or social role (this instance the coach) for another person to be with. The way you conduct yourself whilst in the presence of the athletes provides an example of how they should behave, especially with young children as they will look up to the coach. What sort of example should we be providing to someone else's children? This affects a teams or individuals performance because what the coach is doing the individual may copy so it is important that the coach is on form
As a freshman who just came to US for less than a week, I decided to join the school Junior Varsity Golf team, a sport that I have only seen on TV before. I don’t know what gives me the courage to join team. However, I’m very thankful that I made the decision. For the following four years, I have learnt so much and have had so much fun in the team that I would not image a fall season without playing golf. At first, I couldn’t even hit the ball or just dig a big hole in the ground.
I have volunteered at my hometown 's hospital, Los Robles for 4 years now as a floater and ER volunteer. As a floater, I would go around the hospital doing various tasks and in the ER I would have to check in patients and monitor them and their families. At my university, I have volunteered at the Veterans Home. Currently, I am the secretary of my university 's AMSA
When this summer is done, I might go back and volunteer at the shelter during my time here at Western. The total experience (or what is so far) was not bad, yet the only thing I did not like from volunteering was the smell of cat urine seeping into my clothes, but petting the cats was fun. I only say maybe because I do not know what my future schedule looks like, but if I ever had the time then I will try. I am not making any promises nor any guarantees. There are other great options and opportunities to volunteer at other local organizations too, so I do not have to limit myself to only
The school I have attended is a college prep school, and seems did a good job in preparing me for college. This school has taught me time management, responsibility, and to be respectful to everyone. These three things have prepared me to being a successful member of the community. I’ve learned time management by, taking honors classes throughout high school. These classes are more rigorous than the regulars classes offered at my school.
Volunteering at McKenna Farms Therapy Services I was able to observe pediatric occupational therapy sessions. Not only did I get to observe Occupational Therapy sessions, but I observed Hippotherapy sessions too. What I found so unique about McKenna Farms is that they had Speech Therapist, Physical Therapist, and Occupational Therapist all together at one clinic. This allowed me to witness how the different types of therapy fit together and how the therapist would collaborate to find the best way to treat the children. My favorite part was finding ways to communicate with the kids.
I have had the opportunity to be an assistant team leader at a local community Centre. In addition, I had the chance to be an active member of George S. Henry Academy. Some of the activities that I have participated in included the girls’ rugby team, as well the social event coordinator for “Green Team”, an environmental club dedicated to raising environmental awareness for students and staff members. My role as assistant team leader at my local community Centre involved me helping students with homework, facilitating after-school activities and sports such as, soccer and table tennis for youth, and hosting summer camps. While being a part of the girl’s rugby team, I collaborated with my team members with ultimate goal of winning each game.
How you have impacted your community through volunteerism and how you plan to use your education, talents, and personal attributes to improve your community. In life there are moments when one realizes that giving back to their community is more important than their selfish deeds, one receives something more important than their own pleasure, knowledge or experience. By helping others we are able gain experience on how to care for children because my goal is to become a kindergarten teacher. I have impacted my community by volunteering at a local organization called the Urban Bridge and Cliff House Community, an organization that helps elementary and middle school students after school with their homework and offer them a mentor that will
