Abuse Of Power In Animal Farm

Animal Farm.
To illustrate the lies and deception of the leaders and followers throughout the book, George Orwell uses 3 main themes; revolution,deception and equality.

Paragraph 1/Revolution The rebellion starts with Old Major, the oldest pig on the farm, calling all the farm animals to a meeting at night to talk about starting a rebellion against the farmer. Old Major says “The life of an animal is misery and slavery.” Farmer Jones is the only real enemy and the only person stopping the animals from having freedom and to do as they wish. giving them a new perspective, to want them to rebel against the owner for their freedom. All these commandments were changed to suit the pigs. It created a situation where the pigs were seen as part of a higher class and the other animals were lower class. Napoleon teaches the sheep to sing “four legs good two legs better” whilst all the pigs walk around on two legs showing they are smarter and they are better than the other animals. Another point that shows the lack of equality on the farm is the pigs need for the apples and milk to make sure they are smarter whilst small portions of food are handed out to other animals who are the hard workers.

George Orwell’s book Animal Farm highlights the themes of equality, lies and revolutions. He shows that equality will never be gained when corrupt leaders are in power. They use lies and deceit to sway the peasants and poorer class to gain power for themselves.
