According to Nair et. al. (2007), men and women are alike, a smooth and bright skin with an ideal body shape for a wonderful life.Generally, the visual appearance, especially to facial attractiveness, helps to construct one's self-esteems and self-images. Indeed, positive self-concepts highly affect a person's beliefs and attitudes about personal skills, abilities, social relationships and future outcomes (Heatherton &Wyland, Assessing self-esteem Ch14. p219-233).Hence, this study attempts to investigate the correlation of facial skincare products usage on general self-esteem (SE) and academic self-concepts (ASC), and grade point average (GPAs) among male students. “The use of skincare product” measures how many times of subjects’ skincare products usage in a week. In specific, skincare products relates to any goods that provide the maintenance and treatment against the hygienic of the skin under optimal conditions of sanitation and comfort, or attending to someone or something such as facial foam, moisturizing creametc.(Draelos&Thaman, 2006). Furthermore, male shaving products are ruled out because of the commonness. Thereupon, “skincare product” only includes any facial commodities, excluding shaving products. 2. “General self-esteem (SE)”is defined as the positive or negative value placed on one’s own attributes (Enger, 1993; Bell, 2009), or the relative degree of worthiness, or acceptability, which people perceive their self-concept to possess(Rosenberg, 1965; Enger; Bell, 2009). It is measured with Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale(1965) and its Cronbach's alpha is over 0.8. 3. “Academic self-concept(ASC)”, a sub-domain of general self-concept, indicates students’ perceptions of their academic ability formed in conjunction with peers, teachers and parents (Marsh, 1987; Marsh &Hau, 2003; Liu & Wang, 2008; Yorke, 2013). In specific, it contains two relevant factors, academic confidence and academic effort which are assessed by Academic Self-Concept Questionnaire (ASCQ) developed by Liu, Wang and Parkins (2005). The Cronbach's alpha ranges between 0.71 and …show more content…
Next, the mutual effect of individual hygiene, SE and ASC on GPAs is illustrated by the technique of multiple-regression. Expected Results Author expects that there are positive correlations in three combinations, personal habits to SE, to ASC and to GPAs, so that simple regression provides evidence to show the predictive property of individual usage of facial skincare products. As well, the multiple-regression can yield the mutual effect of using personal hygiene goods to SE to ASC on GPAs. Feasibility Strengths Using self-administrated questionnaire enjoys two advantages. Questionnaires can collect large amounts of unobservable data in short time, say, attitudes and beliefs. Costs of research operations and participants are relative lower than experimental designs. Weakness There are two potential risks and corresponding suggestions that increase the probability of successful data collections. Conducting pilot test is purposed to revise or remove some unclear terms of questions. Training helpers aims to decrease the time consumption to collect data as well as increase the respondent
To select the sample for this study, data will be collected from two businesses; Alabama Power and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. The surveys will include segments in which the participants were asked to give an account of their; workplace, supervisor-subordinate relationship, leadership, employee performance, and organizational performance at the workplace (Scheidt-Nave et al., 2012). The other possible data collection may come from Survey Monkey. The instruments used for this study will be the OPS (all 67 participants will evaluate the organization), 360-degree feedback (57 subordinates will evaluate their supervisors and 10 supervisors will evaluate their subordinates), and the GRS (10 supervisors will evaluate their subordinates and 57 subordinates will evaluate
Chapter two in the textbook Reflect & Relate an Introduction to Interpersonal Communication by Steven McCornack talks all about what “self” is and how to achieve complete fulfillment for one’s self which is also known as self-actualization. The components of self, as described in the book are, “ . . . self-awareness, self-concept, and self-esteem” (McCornack 39). Self-awareness is the idea in which one can take a moment to move feelings, beliefs, and other external influences aside and just evaluate oneself in a holistic perspective that is not skewed by opinions of others, etc. Having the ability to actually think about who one is brings a lot of power and mental stability in such a way that allows for improvement.
As discussed above, the lotions launched by the company are criticized because of its thick and greasy characters and unpleasant smell. As a result, many children suffered from sunburn. Further, the detergents launched by Honest contain SLS. Many consumers became angry because the company promised not to use such chemical. Instead of trying to be green consumers, as presented in the two scenarios, green consumerism resulted to a health
Although men and women have different opinions on the difference between guys and men, Amy Chan and Dave Barry prove that there are some differences that are noticed by both
Imagine being told as a female in today’s world you must look or act a ¬¬certain way in order to be accepted. Being what you want to be is not allowed and changes have to be made in order to be included. They say “pain is beauty, and beauty is pain” as they way a woman looks today are completely different from ten or even fifty years ago. In this paper, the reader will understand the mind of a woman in today’s society and the difficulties to be not only accepted but being her own person as well. Not only has the appearance of a woman changed but also role titles and job descriptions as well.
According to Britton (2012), last 2008, YWCA USA developed a report Beauty at Any Cost wherein they discuss the consequences of beauty obsession of every woman in America. It shows that beauty obsession results from a decrease in the level of self-esteem. It also gives a problem to the Americans because it’s also putting a dent in their pockets. It states that because of those cosmetics many people have decreased the level of self-esteem because of those cosmetics.
A student that has a positive self-esteem is generally likely to have a positive outlook on life. Students think of themselves as being worthy when they are actually noticed and paid for hard
People use logic to make important decisions, such as marriage, family, and permanent residence. It can also be used to re-evaluate the relationship by qualifying the other factors of the pyramid, in case the future of the relationship is doubtful. Determining attractiveness based on gender can pinpoint what makes men like with women and what women want with men. In a survey that involved more than 100,000 men and women from 53 different countries, revealed the most attractive traits in men and women. The researchers instructed the participants to choose the top three traits they thought as the most important in a potential partner from 23 different traits.
Men and women nowadays are starting to lose self-confidence in themselves and their body shape, which is negatively impacting the definition of how beauty and body shape are portrayed. “...97% of all women who had participated in a recent poll by Glamour magazine were self-deprecating about their body image at least once during their lives”(Lin 102). Studies have shown that women who occupy most of their time worrying about body image tend to have an eating disorder and distress which impairs the quality of life. Body image issues have recently started to become a problem in today’s society because of social media, magazines, and television.
Proper sample size was used and the trial duration was long enough to capture the characteristics of

Some researches have proposed that people are more likely to attribute greater intelligence to good-looking person. Facially attractive people a viewed to posses a variety of valued personal characteristics to greater extent than do less-attractive people (Jackson, 1990). This concept is called “Halo Effect”, the observer is transferring their judgment (positive) from one simply perceived characteristics of the person to a judgment of that person’s character. Halo effect seems to focus on the perception that “beautiful is good” and “ugly is bad” (Griffin & Langlois, 2006).
Most quasi-experimental studies are not randomized, so one of the strengths of this study is that the researchers were able to randomize
Popular models such as Kendall Jenner and Alexis Ren is known for their ‘perfect’ bodies. They post daily of their ‘fitspo’ images, gaining millions of likes and compliments. These compliments about their appearance support the importance of body image in how you are judged as a person. These images, send a destructive message about their appearance as well. Ms Morgan stated that ‘appearance-based talk and body comparison can be unremitting, with little understanding of how detrimental it is for self-esteem and mental-health’.
The pre-testing involves measuring a dependent variable while post-testing involves testing the variables after exposure to independent variables. Classical experiments has several strengths that include it possesses ease of replication; it embodies scientific rigor and isolation of the independent variable. Simultaneously it also exhibits several weaknesses that vary from artificiality to cost. The experiment takes place in controlled environment while in the real world the events occur in uncontrolled environment. The cost of experiments is another major weakness, assembling the necessary components that assure success of the experiment might be a costly
