Adnan never got a ride from Hae in her car, which is where Hae dies. Leakin Park, where Hae is buried, is nowhere near the school that both Adnan and Hae go to.

Adnan disagrees with these beliefs. He talks about how he loves and respects her. “No one ever has been able to provide any shred of evidence that I had anything but friendship toward her, like love and respect for her. … The only thing I can ever say is, man, I had no reason to kill her. Sarah Koenig - He's adamant about this. You can hear it, right? He's staunch.” Adnan will not hurt Hae. He really appreciates her so he says that he did not kill her. What is his motive to kill her? Adnan talks about people claiming that he is mad at her so he kills her. He is adamant about it. Being adamant about something means they are determined not to change their opinion/decision. But, Adnan is also staunch, staunch means giving strong loyal support to another person or thing. Adnan is adamant and staunch when talking about only having love and respect towards Hae and that he never will kill her. Adnan talks about the accusations being made about him. He does not agree with them, he states how no one can prove that he is angry with her. “People could say why. Oh, man, he is mad, this, that, or the other. But no one could ever come with …show more content…
Adnan talks about how he isn’t in her car. Hae always goes to her little cousin’s school to go pick them up. “I would-- wouldn’t have asked for a ride after school. I’m-- I’m sure that I didn’t ask her because, well immediately after school because I know she always-- anyone who knows her knows she always goes to pick up her little cousin, so she’s not doing anything for anyone right after school. No-- no matter what. No trip to McDonalds. Not a trip to 7-Eleven. She took that very seriously.” Adnan knows that Hae will not take him anywhere. She has to go pick up her little cousin. How is he even in her car then? He states that she will not do anything for anyone after school and made it clear that she will do absolutely nothing. He acknowledges the fact that she had to immediately go to her cousin’s school right after school ended. He respects the fact that Hae will not take him anywhere. He knew that she took picking up her cousin seriously. Adnan is truthful about having respect and love for her, so he takes it seriously too. Some friends of Hae admit that Adnan asks Hae for a ride on the day of the murder. First, Hae agrees, but then later on, declines, saying she has something else to do. “Hae said she could, there would be no problem. At end of school, I saw them. She said ‘Oh no I can’t take you, I have something else to do.’ She didn’t say what else.
They used a kid’s testimony named Jay to put Adnan away, but his claims keep changing over time. The state should not declare Adnan guilty because Jay’s testimony is too inconsistent. Jay is very inconsistent in his testimonies. According to Serial Timeline Map, Jay’s first interview he said that he saw Hae’s body in the trunk of her own car at the Edmondson strip
Adnan said he didn’t know what he did that day and that it felt like a normal day it being six weeks who couldn’t blame him. Except for the part of how could this be an ordinary day, Adnan claimed to be very close with Hae how would you not remember the day of her disappearance. This day should be engraved in your brain for awhile at least six weeks I would say. Adnan’s only claims was to be with Asia, Jay’s girlfriend and Hae’s friend at the time and she was nowhere to be found during the court hearings and investigation.
Adnan’s religion could have played a part to his and Hae’s break
Jay Wilds was the state’s main, and only, witness. He says that Adnan killed Hae and then he called Jay from a phone booth outside of a Best Buy to show him the body and to ask him what to do. Afterwards, they both drive around a bit, get high, drive some more, bury Hae together, and then drive back home. There is even cellphone evidence to support Jay’s story. This all seems bad for Adnan until you look deeper into Jay’s story.
Everyone that knew Adnan told Sarah Koenig that he was not the type of guy to hurt anyone, he was seen as the “golden child” and people could not possibly believe that he was capable any wrongdoing. Moreover, the young couple had many secrets which probably caused tension between them. A few days before Hae Min Lee’s disappearance Adnan purchased a cell phone. This cell phone would play a big part in this mystery because the evidence used from this phone is not
Adnan’s friend Asia sent him a letter while he was in prison saying that she saw him on the 13th of January during the 21 Minutes that were stated to have been the time that he had killed Hae Min Lee. She states that she saw him in the library near the school. She states that she was talking to Adnan and her boyfriend came up to them and started arguing with her thinking that Adnan was hitting on her. After Adnan leaves she states that the time was after 21 minutes that the state put the time of the murder at. This means that Adnan could not have killed Hae in the time that was stated that he killed her.
He wanted to call detective O’Shea…” Episode 8” As the quote shows Adnan could not deal with the fact that Hae was murdered and he wanted to call the main
One piece of evidence that proves that Adnan is innocent and that did not kill Hae Lee is Jay's inconsistencies in his stories and interviews when talking to the police. When Jay is being interviewed by the police he tells in chronological order what happened and what he remembers from that night when Hae Lee was murdered. Evertime Jay told his story a small detail or location would change and not match up with the original story. In Episode 4: Inconsistencies Jay is being interviewed by the police, they had asked “why would you lie about the location? ”. Jay responded with, “Because I’m
If Adnan was possessive of Hae like Aisha said, he could have been so heartbroken and mad after the breakup that he wanted revenge. I am not saying this is what happened, this is just my thoughts and
The main motive that Jay, police and accusers gave to Adnan was anger and resentment towards Hae after she broke up with him. Jay stressed how often he would say “I’m going to kill her” after the two split, and how enraged he seemed to be. However, Jay is one of (if not) the only people interviewed whom says that this is how Adnan acted. Nearly (if not) everyone else said Adnan was sad and down at first, but got over her and moved on fluidly and ordinarily, without any signs of resentment: certainly, he didn't threaten to kill her. It should also be mentioned that Jay stated he was close to Adnan, but people whom are known to have been very close friends with Adnan at the high school stated that they were not close at all, barely friends- acquaintances, perhaps.
A motive. Adnan was convicted of Hae’s murder without a sound motive. The state said, as discussed in the podcast, that Adnan’s motive was based on him being upset about their breakup
There was, however, a lack of supporting evidence to back up the credibility of this piece of evidence. Many of Adan's witnesses say that he does not have the motive to murder Hae, which is debatable. Adnan has constantly told his friends that "he was going to kill that bitch” (Serial 1.7). In addition to constantly saying he will kill Hae, Adnan also wrote in pen, "I'm going to kill" (Serial 6.4) on a note that they used to make fun of Hae. Hae had also written a letter to Adnan frustrated letter "I'm really getting annoyed that this situation is going the way it is" She wrote, "You know, people break up all the time.
These people say that since Hae broke up with Adnan and that was enough reason to want her dead. However, Adnan was a smart kid who would realize that killing someone for breaking up with you is not a valid reason. Adnan was not hurt enough to kill Hae; he was devastated when she died and he didn't know about it when he was told. Also, they say that Adnan had enough time to kill Hae. What this opinion fails to take into account is that Asia saw Adnan at the library around the same time of the murder and she was never used in court as an alibi (Koenig, “The Best Defense is a Good Defense”).
Putting these circumstances aside, it was said by many that the relationship was pretty typical and Adnan got over the breakup easily. This was said by teachers and friends of both Hae and Adnan. One of Hae’s friends, Becky, explained the relationship as “just a silly, teenage, high school, relationship” (Koenig “The Breakup”) which proves that Adnan was not as upset as the prosecution made him out to be at trial. Another notable aspect is that after Hae and Adnan broke up, Hae got in a small car accident and asked Adnan to come help her, her new boyfriend Don also showed up and confirms that him and Adnan had a cordial meeting and explains that they talked for 10 to 15 minutes even after the car situation had been figured out (Koenig “What We Know”). If Adnan was really that broken up about the breakup, he would not have been so friendly towards the new guy who seemed to take his place in Hae’s life.
This proves that Adnan was the one who killed her. Jay and Adnan both committed a serious crime. Adnan killed Hae with the help from
