Al Capone Many people think Capone got the nickname “Scarface” from a deadly battle or a heroic event. Surprisingly, he got it in a quarrel over a girl. Everybody knew who Al Capone was. He did many helpful and harmful things as a criminal. He went through many prisons after he was convicted. Al Capone was a very famous man that people remember because of who he was, what he did as a criminal, and what happened after he was convicted.
Al Capone was very famous. His birthday is on January 17, 1899. (Burdick Harmon, 1) As a child, Al was a kid, he got expelled from school for punching a teacher. (Burdick Harmon, 2) Al never went back to school afterward. When he was older, Capone got in a fight over a girl and ended up getting slashed with a knife in his face. (Lunde, 129) There are many facts about Capone. Al became the most famous bootlegger during 1925 to 1931. (Lunde, 129) Capone died of cardiac arrest on January 25, 1947. Al went to three different prisons. Surprisingly, he lived his life normally when he got sent to a federal prison. Then, Al got sent to the Atlanta Penitentiary to serve his sentence on May 4, 1932. (Bonesteel, 1) Al was assigned prisoner number 40886 in a place where there were 3,000 people crammed into a prison that only held 2,000. Capone was placed in an eight-man cell. Alphonse Capone was most notoriously known for being the head of a profitable crime syndicate known as the “Chicago Outfits” during the prohibition era in the 1920’s. Capone was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1899. It was the acquaintances he met in Brooklyn that would contribute immensely to his future business operations. Capone eventually made Brooklyn his stomping grounds for the beginning of a life in crime. As a teenager, he left school early after an incident and never returned and it was around this time that Capone was introduced to Johnny Torrio, one of the most successful gangsters on the East Coast of America who would later prove to be Capone’s biggest influence in his life of crime.
He murdered his first victim at twenty and in order to escape charges he fled to Chicago where he quickly found one of the most notorious gangs, 5 Points Gang. He with his charm, clever speaking skills, and obedience to the leader he quickly moved up the ranks until he was Johnny Torrito’s (the gang's leader) right hand man. Johnny however had to flee the country and Al took the opportunity naming himself leader. He quickly became the number one in bootleg operations of Chicago, while wiping out any rival providers. These rival gangs however were not pleased with Capone’s success and did all they could in attempts to wipe him out, among the attempts were poisoning and machine gun ambushes, none of which seemed to work.
Later Torrio left the gang and now Capone was in charge, he was more organized than Torrio in the gang. After, he got involved with the St. Valentine's day massacre killing the Moran’s gang members to destroy the Moran’s gang. Later was in jail from a tax evasion from hundred million dollars was a evaded. Al Capone was a very popular gangster who had five kids; one boy and four girls. Al Capone was a criminal and went to prison numerous times. He had a normal childhood with rough times here and there. The soon-to-be criminal went to a normal public school like any other kid. Al may have looked and sounded normal, but in the end he became a criminal.

Al capone did not only do violent crimes but he helped the people around him by setting up a soup kittchen during depression and a city wide program to give free milk to schools kids. In 1939 he was found guilty of tax evasion and was jailed for eight years. while in jail prohibiton ended and grew ill from syphilis. Al capone was released in 1939 and moved to florida. He never seemed destined to be a worldwide infamous mobster, but as he started to become a young adult his actions showed otherwise.
