His life has never been described of embodying hip-hop, until only recently. Alexander Hamilton is finally getting the recognition he lacked and deserved during his time. This is all due to Lin Manuel Miranda’s masterpiece, Hamilton, an American musical. As often pointed out in the musical, Hamilton commonly is clashed in with the other founding fathers, most just know him for fixing the nation’s economy. Though his accomplishments go far beyond fixing the banks and stabilizing the nation’s economy. Our history books rarely mention him (Miranda), though his doings are in there. From earning his way into King’s College to writing 51 out of the 85 Federalist papers to getting shot in a duel, Alexander Hamilton is a true American self-made man …show more content…
Nor do many know he is to be credited. “He took our country from bankruptcy to prosperity. I hate to admit it but he doesn’t get enough credit for all the credit he gave us” (Miranda). Hamilton’s accomplishments don’t lack recognition due to other, but due to himself. It was he who lacked the human desire for recognition (Glendon). Many know he wrote more than two thirds of the Federalist Papers, though at the time, they were published under an anonymous name. He wrote George Washington’s critical letters and reports on strategic reform and the restructuring of the continental army (Malanson). Though, when it came to Washington’s Farewell Address, due to Hamilton’s heavy influence and involvement, it is questioned whether or not Washington actually wrote it or if it should be credited to Hamilton (Malanson). The real question, though, lies in he’s lack of the desire to be recognized for his own work. The answer may lie in his values and beliefs. Hamilton did not care for materialism, instead he believed in the public good and using one’s passion to somehow aid the public good and help to shape it (Pontuso). Due to his exposure to slaves in St. Croix, he did not believe in people classifying themselves above another. Hamilton wasn’t a selfish person, he only wanted what was right and beneficial for the people, not just himself
In Hamilton, Mark Steinberg successfully divulges details of the life of Alexander Hamilton from his birth until his death. In as much, Steinberg conveys a wide-ranging journey of cluttered, blog style information on every aspect of Hamilton’s legacy as a revolutionary, statesman, family man, and a lover as an admirer of Hamilton. Therefore, this paper will critique Steinberg’s presentation of personal information about Hamilton as well as his admiration for Hamilton, and will also evaluate Steinberg’s cluttered writing style as he tells the story. This section contains a summary of Hamilton, with Steinberg beginning his book by stating his purpose in writing this book.
Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of Treasury of the United States, had a lot going for himself being a man that came from poverty to success, and he was a man “all powerful and fails at nothing which he attempts” admitted a congressman in 1791 (Tindall and Shi). Born in the Caribbean in the West Indies, abandoned by his father and orphaned at the age of 13 by his late mother who had died. Later moved to New York, became a lawyer and transitioned to nationalism thus giving him the important role of handling the weight of the debt America had accumulated $54 million deep after the Revolutionary War (Digital History). Hamilton saw the need for some financial credit to be given to America and he had the right idea by proposing a National Bank to his first president George Washington. Word dispersed of that proposal leading a
Most gentlemen would heap mountains of praise upon the late John Adams. Such gentlemen would look at Adams’s life and feel awestruck at how a single man was not only able to contribute greatly towards this country’s founding but also able to serve as both vice president and president of the Unites States. Ignorant men would say that an accomplished man of Adams’s stature would be more than deserving of such recognition. For, according to them, our country flourished under Adams’s influence. However, I, James Madison, do not stand amongst the foolish; I believe that the leadership of this nation under John Adams could only be described as atrocious.
During the process of achieving the goal, he attended the Constitutional Convention. Here, Hamilton spoke out on behalf of his ideas and beliefs. Among many important people at the convention, Hamilton was later named the “Father of the Constitutional Convention”. Standing for New York, Hamilton thought that
Luis Sevilla For: Dr. Stephens History 1301 42T 12 October 2015 Review #2 Does Thomas Jefferson come across as a great man, or a petty one? That is all based on opinion. From the little that is taught about Thomas Jefferson he comes across as a great man. Jefferson is not only known as a founding father he is also a big symbol in American History
The antebellum period took place before the civil war. During this time period, one can thoroughly see accomplishments of the presidents in charge during that time. There is one who stood out the most based on my criteria and his outstanding achievements and it was George Washington . He was one with the most accomplishments, foreign policies and impacted the union the most after his presidency. Being in charge of a nation is never easy no matter how much experience or prepared one is, issues are always going to arise whether it be political, economic,or social issues.
How does a historical figure from the 1700’s have his name on biographies, hip hop tracks, and “The Federalist Papers”? Alexander Hamilton may not have written his own biography or hip hop/musical theatre albums about himself, but he will always be remembered as a phenomenal writer. He wrote his way out of poverty. He wrote down his oppositions of Britain’s governing of the colonies. He impressed George Washington so much with, not just his combat skills, but, his skills with the pen that he made Hamilton his writing correspondent during the American Revolution war.
Immigration has been an on-going debate for many years. Later in the interview Miranda even admits “I didn’t know Hamilton was an immigrant, and I didn’t know half of the traumas in his early life.” He continues saying that “when he gets to New York…I know this guy.” This statement proves that despite being an immigrant Alexander Hamilton made an impact on American history.
He has wrote many great plays and musicals, but one of his greatest works is Hamilton. Before Hamilton, many people just viewed him as a really old founding father who was pretty lame. But with Hamilton, Lin-Manuel used spunk and hip-hop to show all of Alexander Hamilton´s characteristics. Now, people view Hamilton as a intelligent, and important founding father thanks to Lin-Manuel Miranda. Lin-Manuel has brought many people closer together.
Alexander Hamilton (2004) is a detailed true story of one of the most important figures in American history. It is based on Hamilton’s early life. As a politician, as a revolutionary war hero, and the first treasury secretary, Hamilton dedicated his life and intellect to unifying and strengthening the United States. Hamilton in truth did perhaps more than any other one person to secure the power of the American Union. Though he was never president, he was a hero deemed as a true founding father, title he kept till his death.
Hamilton is a hip hop, rap musical about one of America's founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton and includes music from Lin Manuel Miranda. Hamilton is about Alexander Hamilton determined to make his mark in America. He goes from an orphan to Washington's right hand man to a rebel to a war hero. He even becomes the first Treasurer of America. Miranda first presented “Alexander” to President Obama during a poetry jam.
Even though Hamilton wasn’t one of our presidents, he showed great leadership throughout his terms in the secretary of treasury, he practiced law after the wars, and he also showed leadership being one of our Founding Fathers (who were responsible winning our wars against England.) After Hamilton was drafted for the Constitutional Convention by New Year, Hamilton got to attend a meeting in Philadelphia. While Alexander was in Philadelphia he had little to no impact on the convention because he didn’t fully represent New York. Even though Hamilton didn’t represent the Federalist (who strongly opponents to sign the new constitution), Hamilton signed the new constitution as an individual. Then after Hamilton signed the for the new constitution, he got to write “at least two-thirds of the essays” that included some of the most important ones that would explain the powers of each of the branches.
Alexander Hamilton was a major part in the making of the United States of America. Firstly, He was George Washington’s protege during the Revolutionary War and and was part of the Continental Congress in 1782, 1783, and 1788 Secondly, He was the first Secretary of the Treasury in the United States. Lastly, Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton got into a dispute from the election of 1801 and the standoff led to Alexander Hamilton killed on that day. In conclusion, Alexander Hamilton was a major part in the making of the United States of America.
Despite being faced with horrible and traumatic situations, Alexander Hamilton did not lose sight of his ambitions and dreams. Much like how great leaders possess self-direction and self-awareness, Hamilton knew what he wanted and was not afraid to go after it. By the age of eleven or twelve Hamilton was already an orphan, his father having abandoned the family and his mother dying of sickness (Biography.com). At the time of his birth, most still considered illegitimacy a stain on one's character.
The first National Bank, he displayed his brilliance as an economist. He also outlined a plan to create the capital required to kick start a prosperous economy and introduced government tariffs, subsidies, and awards to encourage American Manufacturing. According to John Steele, Alexander Hamilton can take all the credit for creating an economy that went on to become one of the strongest in the world. This article discusses essential information that support my point of view. Many points in history have lead to this.
