Fiction Books
How do you think your life would be without books? Just think about it for a minute. No books, that means no good story telling, no creativity, electronics all day, and more. Well, that might happen if all the fiction books get dropped. The school board does not think fiction books are apart of the curriculum anymore. One might say books help people be themselves and helps the writers get their stories out. For example Always Running by Luis J. Rodriguez is an autobiography and a fiction story. By Luis writing this book it helped him share his story and for other people to connect and see how that story is so real.
The book always running has a lot of messages. By Luis writing this book it helps us get an insight of how the world could really be. Some of the messages would be that gangs and violence lead to nowhere. Also, if people come together as a community you can also save a lot of the children. This book also shows the insight of how racism is very bad and is all round the world. “Sometimes we pay even when there 's been no

For example there is a lot of white cops shooting and killing innocent black people. Just like this book everything is revolved around mexicans and cholas. Police killed at least 102 unarmed black people in 2015, nearly twice each week. Also the gang violence today is still going on. As the book mentioned it was a lot of gangs and killing and ect in LA. Today the same things still goes on in LA. Los Angeles is considered the “gang capital” of the nation. There are over 450 active gangs in LA. “During the last three years, there were over 16,398 verified violent gang crimes in the City of Los Angeles. These include 491 homicides, nearly 7,047 felony assaults, approximately 5,518 robberies and just under 98 rapes” clames the Los Angeles police Department. To summarize a lot of things that happens in books still goes on
“Banning books gives us silence when we need speech. It closes our ears when we need to listen. It makes us blind when we need sight.” - Stephen Chboksy. Books are one of the most benefitting resources that we can use to teach today’s youth.
Title (rough draft) In a world where all books tell the truth and are based on true stories, this world, SHOULD NEVER EVER EXIST! The Etiwanda school board is banning all fiction books because they claim that they are bad and do not teach us anything. I however, know what the school board is doing, is one hundred percent wrong. Fiction books are very important to human life and can sometimes teach us more about humanity than nonfiction books can.
Night written by Elie Wiesel is a memoir about Elie’s personal experience during the Holocaust. Yes, this book is very hard to read and has violent and upsetting content, but it is the truth about the Holocaust. Banning books is wrong and limits students to things that adults find “appropriate” for students. Some students can handle for mature material, so limiting them to certain books is unjust. Banning books in school libraries takes away academic freedom, shelters students from the outside world, and does not let students form an educated opinion.
Books can create portals to different life experiences and encourage reading. A few schools and libraries have challenged the educational value of some books, however, therefore leading them to eventually be prohibited in a particular place. Each reason may be different depending on the book and the location of the exclusions. Books are icons of literature and their value should outshine the occasionally offensive topic. Be that as it may, there are multiple reasons why books should be taught and included in a curriculum.
Most of the violence we have is gang related especially in Chicago. Chicago is known to be one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S. A lot of shootings, rapes, robberies, and murders comes from gang violence. There has been 419 murders in Chicago this year. The murder rate of Chicago is about four times higher than New York City and 2.5 times higher than Los Angeles.
It is a way to share thoughts between generations and record the history we have created. Losing books would mean losing history, creativity, individuality, and
During the 1900’s, two riots came about that each took place in Los Angeles and both dealt with social, economic, and political issues. One incident was the Watts Riots of 1965 and the other was the Rodney Kings Riots of 1992 in which both had similarities and differences that were related to the beatings of black citizens by white police officers. We can see how this triggered the caused an outrage and a national debate on police brutality. These riots erupted the social causes burning of buildings and the killings Caucasians even when they had nothing to do with the beating of either black men. A social cause that came from this is that the negroes ended up looting stores, setting fires, beating up Caucasian people who walked by in which they would pull from cars, the burning, stoning and shooting of police officers.
The one thing I would have done more differently in this book is getting more in detail as to how this is hurting our nation. It is not obvious that we still have a problem with race issues and hate crimes. There has been multiple cases where a white police officer commits murder against a young black or white woman, but walk away free with their hands clean. Of course not all of these cases tie into with racial differences, but now with videos being posted everywhere, it is obvious to see when an officer is in danger and when he makes a cruel act. Another example of crimes committed by hate is when people
In some cases books were banned from schools because parents believed there kids should not be opened to certain topic in the stories. Another issue is students have been sent home to read books for certain classes that talk about touchy subjects. For example, religion and magic. Parents
“the positive outcomes of reading included enjoyment, knowledge of the self and other people, social interaction, social and cultural capital, imagination, focus and flow, relaxation and mood regulation, as well as improvements in communication abilities and longer-term education outcomes.” (“The power of reading: how books help develop children’s empathy and boost their emotional development”). This statement talked about how the books that are prohibited are really enabling children to advance in school. This statement additionally discloses how kids associate with the books. " fiction causes us see how other individuals feel and think.
“Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight the imagination, and life to everything.” -Plato. This quote shows the importance of books. If there were to be a world without books, the most important book I would keep would be Fahrenheit 451. This book would be important to keep because it would show us what would happen if books were outlawed.
Gang activities have been increasing over the years from crimes ranging from robberies to homicides. In California, estimates were made by the Justice Department that approximately 175000 to 200000 persons were members of gangs. In the county of Los Angeles gang activities for over a period of five years accounted for over 23000 of the crimes that occurred.(Friedrichs. M. 1999). Gangs have become not only a problem for those communities where the gang's ar located but has become a problem for everyone.
Throughout time the gang activity in California has become a major issue. In February 1988, a 1,000-member police task ended in the arrest of 121 suspected gang members on charges of gun possession, curfew and traffic violations. Two young men were involved in gang related shootings around the same time. Between 1988 and 1990 California reached a record of 690 murders. According to research, younger gang members are much harder to monitor and control.
Books I think are powerful. Books contain so much more than just the story it 's a mindset, and by reading different books, I feel we can be alike in some ways but completely different from others. We will always have likes and dislikes, but once we start to read a book I think we can go in with an open mind set and when we finish, or if we don 't we have are own opinion. A different mindset from everybody else, and that 's extraordinary. That should say something to people and I don’t understand how some people don’t see
It is like this that books expand our knowledge, conception and consciousness of the world around us. You may say that nowadays there are other ways to do that, like the TV or Google, but books allow you to experience the same story form your own perspective, values, ideas and from your own feelings. Through reading, you introduce yourself to new things, new information, and even new ways to solve a problem. Secondly, reading helps us to
