The American Revolution was an important battle in American history. It was a battle between the British government and the American colonies. It caused by the British Government taxing the American colonies without the colonies having any say in the matter. This angered the colonies, and they wanted the British government to veto the tax, and when the tax wasn’t vetoed, the American colonies declared their independence from the British government. Which was the start of the Revolutionary War. Benjamin Franklin was an influential leader in the American Revolution because he helped create temporary peace between the British government and America. Also he helped France join the Revolutionary war, and helped try and pass the Albany plan of union.

Multiple sources say that the colonists shot and then hid behind stone walls and that right as the British were approaching the colonists shot. Thomas Paine's common sense pamphlet was influential and had a crucial part in the American Revolution. The american revolution was started for a number of reasons, but I think it was mostly because of the Townshend Acts. These acts were what caused the colonists to act against the British, one of the most popular acts that the colonists rebelled against was called the Tea Act. these Townshend Acts were made to fix Britain's debt in the British East India company. These Townshend Acts put a tax on imported goods like glass, paint, oil, paper and tea, making merchants make less of a profit getting the colonists angry.

Prior to the American Revolution the gap between American and British views on many issues got increasingly larger. The resulting differences in opinion eventually led to the American desire for independence. Colonists disagreed with Britain over the taxes, Proclamation of 1763, and the Quartering Act of 1765. So the British were able to pay for a very expensive war, and because they felt the colonists were below them. They decided to start taxing the colonists to help sustain themselves.

At first the British dominated winning many battles and starting the colonists off on a bad foot, with many casualties. The colonists were determined to succeed and soon they won their first battle, the battle of Charleston. Soon after they won other battles including, the battle of Trenton, Princeton, and Saratoga.

In 1775 the British believed that they could beat the colonists quickly, considering they had more resources, more money, an army, and outnumbered them 6 to 1, but they were wrong. They still got fought into a stalemate in the North after 5 years! After losing the battle of Saratoga, the british feared French intervention. Therefore, they had to take the South, before it was to late to win the war. They believed that there were Loyalists down there that would rise up, rally together, and fight with the British army, if only they came down.
