The most well-known factor American Revolution is the unfair taxation of colonists, but there were numerous factors that caused the colonists to overthrow the British authority in the colonies. It can be argued that there was no substantial grounds for the American Revolution, but British king was very unjust in his decision with the colonies. These grievances can be found in The Declaration of Independence and include taxation, closing off trade ports, difficulties with soldiers, and the king refusing to acknowledge problems occurring the colonies. The most acknowledged element of the American Revolution was the British taxes placed on American colonists. Most colonists were poor farmers who, even though had taxes that were much lower in
The British Treatment and the Colonial Resistance both played big roles leading up to the American Revolution. The British wanted to colonists under their control and the colonists wanted fairer treatment than they were getting. The British treatment was really unfair to the colonist’s due to the laws that the British enforced on the colonist’s. One of the unfair laws was the Stamp Act. It was unfair because it taxed colonist without their consent.
The American Revolution began due to the corruption of the British government. The British had a monarchy in which the ruler’s descendants were given power after the ruler’s death. Thomas Paine explains that the British monarchy is not an effective form of government (Document 5). He states that man started out as all equal and that the present distribution of powers is unnatural. Paine calls hereditary succession an abominable practice.
There were many causes for the outbreak of the American Revolution. Following the French and Indian War, the American colonies were taxed heavily by Great Britain with acts such as the Stamp Acts and the Townshend Acts. Britain felt that the taxes were just because they believed the colonists were at fault for the war when they moved into the Ohio River Valley and so the war was fought for colonial protection. However, the colonists felt differently, believing that the taxes were unjust and infringed on their rights. This is due to the fact that the colonists had no one to represent them in Parliament, effectively giving them no say in whether or not they would be taxed.
When looking at the social and political changes that took place during the early American colonies you can see a steady progression towards ideologies that would lead to the Revolution. When you have different levels of government being put in place by the states depending upon their needs, where rural areas had different court systems than more urban areas, you see a level of independence for governance that the colonists began to see the benefit of having, separate from the rule of the Crown. To counter this increase in independence. the Crown implemented ever changing political positions that could be assigned to those who were loyal to the Crown and the social hierarchy that was prevalent in Britain at the time. These actions of corruption
They put taxes on things such as paper, sugar, and even tea, which angered the colonist because they were not will to pay tax without representation in the government. These events ultimately caused the colonist to revolt against the British monarchy and declare its independence. A revolution is a radical change in society and its social structure. The American Revolution was revolutionary because it transformed America politically and socially; however, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness weren’t necessarily improved for the all people in this revolution.
The Revolution was caused by the British and their taxes. The british just taxed the colonists to gain more wealth, and it wasn’t because they really needed the money for important things. The colonists were tired of the british making them spend extra money on things that they had felt were essential for life such as paper and tea. Because of this, they revolted. The Daughters of Liberty decided that they wouldn’t buy
The two themes that we found throughout all three revolutions were political grievances and social injustice. Political grievances basically means that the leaders of the people prior to the revolution were unsatisfactory. For example, King Louis XIV was the leader of France before the French Revolution. Under his rule, his people experienced shortages in bread and an unfair taxing system. They deemed the king unsatisfactory because of the way they were being treated, they got rid of the king, taking his power and later having him guillotined.
The Declaration of Independence was a list of grievances from the Americans to the British, but does not explain the cause of each grievance. The background story is this. Christopher Columbus sailed in 1492 and found the Americas. They claimed and ignored the Americas until the 18th century. The “Americans” enjoyed the freedom the British gave them from the neglect.
Before we begin explaining what contributed the most to the American Revolution, it can be said that the colonist loved England and enjoyed being British citizens. But they wanted to be treated equal to and actually better than those still living on the British mainland (Module 4, Growing Conflict with Britain, Slide 2.) But this despite all of this, 3 major key events happened which ultimately led to the American Revolution. The first one was that due to the French and Indian War, Great Britain had spent a lot of money which they didn’t have. The war nearly doubled the British national debt, from £75 million in 1756 to £133 million in 1763 (Chapter 5, imperial Reforms and Colonial pg129.)
Your heinous, we the colonists have been fed up with your acts of hatred for quite some time. These acts have encouraged us to write down a list of our grievances. Our trade has been cut off from the rest of the world, so we can’t even trade for food. The king has refused to agree to laws that would benefit the colonists, and you have abolished our own governments. You have decided whether the judges keep their jobs and how much they get paid.
What Caused the American Revolution The American Revolution was a battle for leadership in the American colonies. At the time, England controlled nearly all aspects, mostly the political and economic, of the colonial lives. Their purpose was to strengthen England. The colonies wanted the freedom from all of the control because they were doing fine without England.
The colonists refused to submit to a king that was only interested in their money, causing the colonists to become irate with the British once more. Since Great Britain thought that it was superior to the colonies, Great Britain did not give colonists the opportunity to speak up for what they wanted, which lead the colonists to rebel. The arrogance of Great Britain led to the rebellion of the colonists, which sparked the Revolutionary War through social, economic, and political actions. Furthermore, Great Britain caused a tremendous amount of irritation to develop inside of the colonists. The Revolutionary War showed that it is a necessity for Americans to have their opinions voiced.
The colonists were mistreated from the start the British forced them to pay their war debts basically and controlled them harshly this caused the colonists to rise up and take back power. These events eventually led to the American Revolution and colonists
The French and Indian War was important to the American Revolution because the debt from the war was the reason that Parliament started taxing the colonists. Also, the French and Indian War made Britain very weak, making the colonists’ actions work a whole lot better. Since France was not happy with the outcome of their war with Britain this was a main reasons for France’s interest in helping the now Americans throughout the Revolutionary War, which was very important to the colonies’ victory. The reason why Britain started to tax the colonists was because of the debt resulting from the French and Indian War. The first tax was the the tax on sugar, which was put on the colonists to help pay off the war debt.
Political, economic, military, and social factors were taken into account during the revolution. These aspects of the war all played a significant role in the outcome of the American Revolution. Since Great Britain was in a tremendous amount of debt, it started social and economic issues with the colonies. The French and Indian War (Seven Years War), fought between the British and the French over the Ohio River Valley was a huge contributing factor to said debt.
