In today 's world, many people believe that the American society is too competitive. Many companies have their rival, like Coke and Pepsi. Competition could lead to either positive or negative effects. However, the American society being competitive could be better, although, it could also cause problems in the business world. The American society -may be competitive, but the end results are exceptional products. Fierce competition keeps places, making new products. Apple and Samsung, a long lasting competitive of whom has he better products. Each company continually comes out with better products, making consumers content. Each one has to try harder to make customers happy, they want more sales. Cars, stores, and food chains all have someone
Work and success has been a contentious topic of debate in America, from before its inception to modern times. One important aspect is competition, or how one should interact with others in order to achieve success. The purpose of this essay is to explain how Benjamin Franklin’s “The Way to Wealth” and Herbert Biberman’s Salt of the Earth present opposing views on competition. Franklin wrote “The Way to Wealth” as a guide on how he believes one should achieve success.
After reading the chapters and articles on reciprocity I was really intrigued by the idea of reciprocity. I have been to Africa many times and I was reminded a lot of the Senegalese people when reading the articles. Many people in America do not really understand how much of what they get is so good when compared to other countries. We live in a place where we think we are the best and deserve everything and expect everything to get handed to us. An example of Generalized reciprocity in America are the farmers of our world.
In the short story, “Harrison Bergeron”, by Kurt Vonnegut, Hazel quotes, “That’s alright, he tried. That’s the big thing. He tried to do the best he could with what God gave him,”(Vonnegut, 371). This is a perfect example of how this dystopian society treats competition. This story is about a society where everyone is forced to be equal because the government terrorizes it citizens.
The Olympics have been around for centuries, and can teach one many lessons like the one found in “The Olympic Contradiction” by David Brooks. In his passage, Brooks talks about all the aspects of the Olympic Games. He first explains how the athletes and people from all over come together and cooperate to create the most amazing celebration possible. This friendship exemplified makes them seem inseparable; however, the cooperation is short lived because the rivalry and competition begin shortly after. The competitors are no longer friends, and are not smiling in one another's presence.
Classism is a major issue that plagues American society. Classism separates groups by their economic status in society. America is perceived to be a middle class society, however in reality the middle class does not hold majority of the nation’s wealth. Most of the nation’s wealth is held by 1% of the population in America which consists of 34% of the nation’s wealth, meanwhile “the richest 20% of Americans hold nearly 85% of the total household wealth in the country” (Adams et al, 2013, p. 151). American citizens that are a part of the upper class are privilege because they have access to majority of the resources.
That is the one true positive I can think of from this area; it cultivates competitors. In everything we do, we’re thrown into a pit and told to fight to the death. But then again, our families force us to fight to the death over everything. Theodore Roosevelt
Instead this is America accumulating knowledge to better our selves. To conclude, the benefits ring clear. It is not a negative thing that America is competitive because we are involved, positive, and eager to improve. This country we live in is strong and determined, for all the right reason as you can now see. “America is hope.
Society is constantly changing, and some people think it’s for the better, some think it’s for the worse. I feel that there is no question that society is changing for the worse. A Pew Research Poll taken in the spring of 2015 says that only 45% of people around the world express the view that today’s children will be better off financially than their parents.
Many people feel that the American society is too competitive. I believe this is true for a few reasons. For example, if one's business is doing better than someone else's, one of the businesses are going to close down. A competitive society causes people to lose jobs, causes the society to conflict with one another, and causes people to become aggressive towards the government. Competitiveness can make people lose jobs.
Throughout my childhood, my dad shared many stories with me, and although many came and went from my mind by the time he was done telling them, there is one story that has always struck a chord with me. At the age of fourteen, my dad was patrolling the halls as a hall monitor at Nightingale Middle School in Los Angeles. Though his usual days consisted of the exhilarating task of doing nothing all day, this particular day took an interesting turn when found a girl, sitting alone in a corner and in tears. When he asked her what was wrong, she confessed that she had kissed a boy, which according to her mom, meant she was pregnant! Of course, after calming her down, my dad told her that she was not in fact pregnant and directed her to the library
