Why America should be embarrassed: Our path with discrimination
As much as the majority of America likes to ignore, we have always found a group of individuals to target at any given point in history. These individuals targeted are mainly the minority group at the time, often immigrants but sometimes large groups that have always taken the brunt. This is often a topic thrown to the waste-side due to how ashamed most americans are about their embarrassing pattern in the past. Through many obstacles and extreme discrimination these groups have overcome this in ways that show their true colors in incredible ways. At other times these groups of people have overcome it the hard-way in horrifying circumstances. Either way these groups have triumphed

Much of the progress we have made in the United States today has been due to work behind the scenes of the marginalized groups in society. Much of the work was not able to be seen by these people in their time on Earth but they paved the road for their coming children. Many of these individuals died doing what they believed to be beneficial. African americans fought from the second they landed on American soil until some would argue modern day for their true rights as citizens. They have paved a way for equality of races, so that their children can marry anyone they would like to no matter their skin color or sit on a bus where they would like to. Women never settled for being under the hand of their significant other in society, they believed and succeeded in doing exactly what men do in society. Workers never gave up in believing that their wages and hours did not add up to their current living conditions. These groups in society are the reason America is what it is today, and we as a nation thank them for that. These groups made America work for them by never allowing America to set them in standards or groups due to their ethnicity or level in
Progress begins with an idea. An idea begins in the mind. And the mind is a powerful weapon. A weapon so powerful that if combined with other minds; can overthrow dictatorships, make pictures come to life and leave footprints on the moon. Sometimes, a mind can be so powerful that unknown entities want to control them by chackling and chaining them.
It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.” (Audre Lorde, Our Dead Behind Us: Poems) Americans have a silent code of not speaking on anything that has to do with race. When it comes down to race many would like to turn a blind eye to what the real problem is because they are afraid to step on anyone’s toes. We hide behind color-blindness. Saying that we do not see color we only see a man.
Women began earning money from doing the same kinds of jobs men were doing. This allowed them to get resources like property. In today’s society, women can do everything a man can do because they were able to gain the same resources a man could. Once women showed that they had control over resources their status began to rise. Women in America
A big part of our history is the challenges different races had to face when fighting for their rights. There are groups in today’s society that are still battling oppression, even though they were granted rights by our government. It seems like when one door opens, another closes right in their face. One race that had to deal with oppression, and is still dealing with it today, is African Americans. Africans Americans were brought over to the United States to be slaves for Caucasian people.
Renaissance essay. The next Renaissance will take place in the USA. There are many things that a notion or place can have or not have that could make another Renaissance more or less probable. If there were to be another Renaissance I believe that it would take place in the USA. It would take place in the USA because of their good education system, strong economy, large amount of trade partners, and diverse political and cultural views.
Therefore, women should have equal opportunities because women are human beings as well as men. For instance, women should be able to have equal pay wage. Women are also being criticize by their race, depending on their race, the amount of money they get. For example, according to the Americans for a fair chance, stated, “women earn approximately 77 cents for every dollar men earn. Minority women fare- significantly worse-
One of the few things that needs recognition is the Declaration of Independence and our 14th Amendment. After earning our independence, slavery and segregation occurred. For almost a century, whites treated African Americans unfairly until the 13th Amendment passed, the amendment to abolish slavery. Our whole country was in chaos for many years due to unfairness and racism. We all wouldn’t be have our rights today if it wasn’t for the 14th Amendment.
The American dream at one point was what drew people to American; the right to life, liberty, and the happiness. The American dream is the hope to acquire currency, large homes, raise a middle-class family, and pursue what brings people joy in life. But in the year 2016, the American dream becomes hard to believe in. The American dream may still exist, but it is not equally accessible to all Americans. This is true because the American dream is not affordable for everyone, it is not available to everyone from different degrees of education, and race and ethnicity creates large social barriers.
As a result, women that needed work became symbols of threats to men and men claimed that that women did not really need the jobs that they were being given. Men said that the women just wanted a little extra money and by becoming a wage-earning woman they were taking jobs away from the men and destroying the balance between the two gender spheres. In the end, by being a wage-earning woman, women were unable to achieve this new standard of a non-laboring
Freedom. The importance of freedom is often forgotten as Americans live day by day taking this gift for granted. In this day and age, freedom seems as a “simple gift’ obtained by every American, but one forgets to think about those who were once unable to enjoy the freedoms one is promised daily. Back in the day, freedom seemed as nothing more than a dream to those of color. Everyday of a colored person’s life consisted of harassment and discrimination as no one cared to treat them as equals.
The first argument that can be made is that the ADA has not accomplished its goal to give employment to individuals with disabilities. Since the the employment rates of individuals with a disability has declined since the act was signed (Kruse and Schur 31). According to Social psychologist Peter Black research, the goal of the ADA is to allow individuals that are competent with a disability to be hired, promoted, retained and treated equally, without being ridicule based on their performance within their employment. Moreover, since the ADA was signed the employment rates for individuals with a disability has declined.
Before it truly began, men and women were working inside of their household. When it started, women were put into factories and it changed their whole lifestyle. They were used to working in their house, cooking and cleaning and taking care of everyone. Women were always seen as less powerful than men which just enabled factory owners to take advantage from the start. They were used to doing jobs from the demands of others.
I envision the future America as a sanctuary that will protect and love the citizens of this country more than it is shown in the society of today. I imagine that the violence and chaos that is present today will eventually be defeated if we can conquer it with compassion and understanding. When we provide good work ethics along with focus, America will be built up the way it was intended to be. The thirty-third president of the United States, Harry S. Truman, stated, “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.”
Schuylon Johnson Coach D. English IV Immigration in America The number of legal, and illegal immigrants have risen over the years, which has stirred more debate about immigration. Some think it’ll help the economy, and the others think that it’s affecting the economy, but in reality, immigration has been beneficial to a degree, but there are negative effects as well. A topic that is always discussed in America is with the increasing number of immigrants will there be an increase of terrorist attacks? Multiple people say yes, because of the previous terrorist attacks by Muslim.
Equality in America, or even in the entire world, seems to be a prominent issue in this day and age. It is something that we have been striving to achieve for countless years now and the more steps forward we take, the more steps we take backwards. The issues have evolved from race, religion, gender, sexuality, etc.. Plans are formed by different people or groups to attempt to reach true equality for all, as such I, myself, have a plan to bestow upon you. It will encompass all areas of this tough subject. For many it will relieve some problems or allow others to keep these thoughts that are buried in the back of their minds away.
