The maximum sentence for a youth commiting second degree murder is 7 years and the maximum sentence for a a youth committing arson causing bodily harm (disregard for human life) has a maximum sentence of life. -Summary `The teenager at the time was 17 and living in a foster home. Even though she didn't want to kill anyone it’s pretty obvious that her actions lead to the death of both Andrea Reid and Kassandra Finbow. Any normal or sane person would obviously know that setting a fire indoors is a dangerous and stupid thing do, the teen however didn't even think it through. The teen was also in the right state of mind during the incident as there was no indications of the teen being intoxicated and no signs of schizophrenia was present. The crown proposed a 25 month and 21 days sentence with 19 months and 21 days in custody then followed by 6 months under community supervision after noting the teen’s time that she was in custody for and the fact that she had 6 previous convictions for violent offences. The crown wanted to punish the teen for her actions in hopes that she’ll reflect on what her actions lead to, and to assist with the teen’s problems. In my own opinion the sentence is reasonable, the 25 months and 21 days in prisons will help the unnamed teenager reflect her actions and be punished for her actions and the 6 months under community supervision will give her an opportunity to show that she had learnt her mistakes. The sentences was also not as hash as the unnamed teen had plead guilty and showed some level of remorse towards the victims not to mention she was still a teenager when she commited the
The novel, Run away Devil, is about a 12 year old girl named J.R who was driven by forbidden love to kill her family in order to be with her boyfriend. J.R along with her boyfriend Steinke, murdered J.R 's family but Steinke claimed that it was J.R alone who slit young Jacob 's throat. J.R is the youngest Canadian to ever be convicted of multiple homicides. With such brutal murder and such planning it was the ruling that surprised me the most. Since J.R was under the age of 14, she could not be tried as an adult.
On June 8, 2010, eleven year old, Jorge Tarin, told a school counselor he was going to kill himself after school. Because he could not bear being hit by his father anymore. Jorge’s school sent him home due to the lack of power they possessed to keep him and the lack of knowledge on his family history. The same day a social worker and a police officer visited the Tarin family, the home was declared safe to keep a child in, without any real knowledge of the family. They left the home without knowing Jorge had previously spent fifteen months in foster care due to past abuse from his father, who no longer maintained rights to see or live in the same house as his child.
Children at the same age as Perry, 13, will one day be in a home where they have to survive on their own, then the next they are in an orphanage. The mother of Perry Smith passed away soon after she left his father. The battle she fought was an enthusiastic battle with alcohol, the next day she lost and choked on her own vomit, this was probably the worst experience of Perry Smith’s life. When Perry Smith’s mother died, when she left the children, they moved into a Catholic orphanage where Perry got beaten for wetting the bed.
Imagine your friend had lead you into the woods and stabbed you 19 times throughout your body. Anissa and her friend Morgan alledgy stabbed another 12 year old 19 times after leading her into the woods in order to please a fictional character. Morgan and Anissa should be tried as adults with lower sentences and therapy because of the severity of the crime, her age, and her mental health. The two friends should be tried as adults with lower sentence because of how serious the crime was.

The family of the teens feel that they were not given justice. The Crown demanded 5 years in an adult sentence, but instead she was given the harshest possible sentence under the YCJA.
The Story of Maci Kean When you think of people in a kid’s life, you probably imagine two parents, siblings, friends, and teachers. What you don’t typically think is a social worker, a judge, foster homes and a dead mother and father. This became the case for the then 15-year Maci Kean, as well as over 100,000 kids in the United States. When Maci was just a toddler, she became deaf due to a high fever and her father passed away when she was just two due to drug abuse. When she was around the age of 13 her mother passed away as well due to a drug overdose after getting out of jail.

“Making a fist" by Naomi Shihab Nye and "Lucinda Matlock" by Edgar Lee Masters are both about overcoming major obstacles in life to then go on and enjoy life. The two poems are similar in tone, theme, and irony. Both poems have a tone that could be described as reminiscent or nostalgic. In "Lucinda Matlock" the speaker is looking back on her life how she was happy and how she was "married and lived together [with her husband] for seventy years, enjoying working and raising twelve children."
Dana’s history of maltreatment, both from her birth family and foster families, may have been the cause of the lengthy list of social problems that followed. Poor outcomes are associated with children who are abused, runaway, and have a drug dependency problem. Literature has shown that children who are sexually abused as children have high risk of being a victim of commercial sexual exploitation, become addicts, and becoming pregnant as adolescents. Foster parents are supposed to protect children, yet Dana was exposed to additional abuse in out of home care. She was reunified to her parents

The birth mother has an extensive history with drug abuse and domestic violence issues. Walter 's mother has a history of alcohol, marijuana, and crack cocaine abuse. She was referred for substance abuse treatment at least twice. Birth mother did not participate in any mental health services though it was recommended. She has a reported history of feeling grief and loss and guilt and shame associated with her inability to parent her own children over the years, apparently due to her substance abuse addiction.
“Two of the other suspects made deals with the prosecutor, pleading guilty to second-degree murder and naming Andy as the triggerman,” but that was not the reason why he was convicted, but for being part of a carjacking at the time of Lohrmeyer’s murder. He got sentenced to life without parole. The decision of whether young criminals should be tried in juvenile courts or adult courts has created a lot of controversy throughout the years. Juveniles should be tried as juveniles. Being tried according to their age is fairer.
That would meanz that he would be in jail for the rest of his life. But at the same time he would learn a tough lesson in one of the toughest places... jail. But McCrea argues that a kid should not be charged as an adult because, “Adult prisons do more harm then good for the person and it can affect them mentally. McCrea’s argument is meant to protect the kid so that they are not hurt. Murdering a person should be taken very seriously and taken to the highest punishment.
