Andrew Jackson. The great leader of war and law who never asked more of his men the he did himself. Jackson would eat acorns and cow organs during tough times with his men. Jackson shut down an “unconstitutional” force all for the sake of the people. The National Bank Veto was when Andrew Jackson denied the renewal of the Bank of the United States. Jackson vetoed the National Bank in the best interest of the poor. Jackson took the power away from the “selfish foreigners” and put it back into the government. Jackson put the power back into the government to protect the people, making him more democratic. Jackson believed the Bank of the United States was unconstitutional. Jackson got rid of the BUS to protect the people, especially the poor. This made Jackson more democratic.

Today, Andrew Jackson is known far and wide in the United States as having been a large advocate of democracy. He proclaimed himself a Democrat, and while running for president, he campaigned that he would change the system to help directly represent the people instead of through representatives. Being a Democrat running against a Republican, most people would think that Andrew Jackson would be the most anti-republican person ever. However, that was not entirely the case. However, he abused this position of power and made several choices that were detrimental to the welfare and rights of the American people. Jackson implemented the spoils system on a national scale and had unofficial members of his cabinet who did not have to answer to Congress. After South Carolinians were upset by the Tariff of 1832 he was angry toward those who did not agree with it. He also destroyed the National Bank and authorized the Specie Circular.

One of the only things that really qualified him was the hardships he went through when he was younger. One of the biggest thing that Jackson had done as a president was in 1832. Jackson vetoed a bill that would renew the second bank charter early. Jackson stated “I will kill it!”. He said this because he didn’t like the bank at all and he believed that it made the rich richer and the poor poorer. He said in his veto message “It is easy to conceive that great evils to our country and its institutions might flow from such a concentration of power in the hands of a few men irresponsible to the people.”
Andrew Jackson had a dislike for Henry Clay so he started a veto process to stop the bank that Clay was involved with. Jackson also believed this bank to be unconstitutional. Some of the reason why Andrew Jackson was a villain, and one of the worst presidents in US history is he was a notorious gambler, illegally married his wife, passed the indian removal act, and killed a man in a duel. Jackson had a taste for wagering on dice, on cards and even on cockfights. As a teenager, he gambled away all of his grandfather’s inheritance on a trip to Charleston, South Carolina.
