Monarch Butterfly Winter Migration. Discovery Channel. Discovery Channel, n.d. Web. 12 Nov. 2015. . In the online video, “Monarch Butterfly Winter Migration“, Discovery Channel explains how monarch butterflies spend their winter months migrating to the south and then going into hibernation in the tree-stocked areas that they migrated to. The narrator explains why the conditions in these areas are perfect for the hibernating butterflies as well as the dangers of living in the area. Monarch butterflies, during hibernation, are exposed both to predators that want to eat them as well as the harsh, unforgiving winter frost that creeps along during the night. This video is helpful to my research because it explains several dangers that butterflies have to face, which leads to decreases in the overall monarch butterfly population. For example, the narrator states, “[The birds] kill hundreds of thousands of butterflies and dislodge many more” (Monarch Butterfly Winter
Making an impulse decision, she walked off to Floroma meadow, where the thick tree cover on all sides meant she could fly unseen. [C].·:*¨¨*:·.☆.·:*¨¨ *:·. [C]However, Muriel forgot one important thing, as the Tropius bucked her off again and again. Once she had a firm footing, however, it flew begrudgingly in the direction of Snowpoint, making slow flaps of its four wings to get air.
In the Time of the Butterflies is a book about 4 sisters, Patria, Dedé, Minerva, and María Teresa. The book is about the three girls growing up and their experiences during the time of the underground movement to overthrow Trujillo. The book was written in memory of Dedé’s 3 sisters who had been ambushed and murdered, which we are aware of since the beginning of the novel. The beginning chapter of the book is describing Dedé as she waits for a woman who is going to interview her about her three sisters, she then goes into a flashback she has of her family talking at the dinner table and her father mentions someone named Trujillo, which then gives a hint at who this book might be formed around. Through the book, we read stories about times in the girls’ lives when they were going to school at Inmaculada Concepcion and being at home and falling in love, as well as there run ins with Trujillo himself.
Such Wildlife include 450 species of birds, 75 species of mammals, 56 species of reptiles, and 11 species of amphibians. These wildlife such as the Yucca moth are essential to the ecosystem of the park as the Yucca Moths will lay larvae within the seed pods of Yucca Blossoms. The Yucca seedpod contains over 100 seeds and the larvae only consume a few seeds however in the process the larvae pollinate the seed and allows the Yucca to bear fruit. However Yucca Moths are not the only pollinator within the park. European and domestic bees are large contributors to the park and vital pollinators and honey producers; they provide 80% of the pollination required by agricultural crops in the United States, and one-third of our diet comes from crops pollinated by honey
The Golden Cheeked Warbler eats insects and spiders. It is also known to eat caterpillars during the breeding season. This is an insectivorous bird, meaning it only eats insects and invertebraes. They pluck the insect from the surface that they are sitting on, or grab them while in flight.
Tradeoffs are a frequent occurrence in Nature. They describe the compromise between two optimal but frequently incompatible traits for an organism. Andrea Pomeroy and her team applied this concept of tradeoffs to the western sandpipers, Calidris mauri, of British Columbia Canada, with the trade off of their ability to forage for food against the costs of potential predation. The main idea examined by Pomeroy was to study the spatial usage (The measure of how intensely a site is used for foraging by the sandpipers) at Boundary Bay, to determine how the birds chose their stop over sites during migration based on the tradeoffs between food abundance and predation risks.
For example, the native hibiscus(Hibiscus tiliaceus) provide nectar for the Ulysses butterfly(Papilio ulysses). In exchange the Ulysses butterfly pollinate them as it goes around collecting nectar. The Ulysses butterfly and the native hibiscus’ relationship can also be describe as a mutualist relationship because both organisms are benefiting within this relationship. There are also predator/prey relationship within here. Some predator/prey relationship would be the cassowary eating reptiles, such as snakes, and crocodiles eatings platypuses.
For this experiment, the fruit fly was the species of choice since the fruit fly does not occupy a lot of space, can produce large amounts of offspring for each generation, and has an observable phenotypic trait such as eye color. There are four life stages of the fruit fly: egg, larva, pupa, and the adult stage (). Using a dissecting microscope, we can determine the sex of the fruit fly be either observing the abdomen or the legs for a sex comb (). For males, the abdomen is darker colored and rounded at the end, while females have a longer and bigger abdomen with black stripes (). Males also have a sex comb located on their front legs that can be used to determine their sex when it is difficult to separate from their abdomen color and size ().
According to Rafael Trujillo, “He who does not know how to deceive does not know how to rule(azquotes)”. This explains the mindset of the dictator of the Dominican Republic shown in the book The Time Of The Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. In this historical fiction book it explain the story of the Mirabal sister in there fight to stop the oppression of Trujillo. It goes though there life story and gives insight to what the conditions were. Trujillo and the Dominican Republic government oppressed the citizens by arresting if you resist them, Machiavellian control and the deplorable conditions these people lived in.
The potential effects on the environment and ecosystems with the birds ' continued demised were simply ignored. And with that, Alderman allows the chefs to get the last say, concluding the article on a lighter tone about the importance of occasional

“Dead butterfly” is about a depressed girl that is holding onto the past by carrying around a butterfly that reminds her of her brother so the mom asks herself questions about past events to figure out why her daughter won’t let the butterfly go. Introduction Plants are a major necessity in the balance of nature, people’s lives, and our terrain. We may not realize it, but plants are the ultimate source of food for almost 95% of the world population so says the National Group of Food. It’s a fact that over 7,000 species of plants are being consumed today. Plants are one of the reasons that we get clean water; as they help regulate the water cycle.
