1. BIOGRAPHY
• A Russian dancer, choreographer and teacher named “ the father of American Ballet”.
• George Balanchine’s real name was Georgi Melitonovitch Balanchivadze.
• He was born on 22 January 1904 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
• The son of a composer, Balanchine studied piano from the age of five and had a robust understanding of music.
• In 1914 he was accepted by the Imperial Ballet School in St. Petersburg at the age of 9.
• Later while still continuing to dance he studied at the Petrograd Conservatory of Music.

• The score of Apollon Musagète is written for strings only and is consistently classical in style: dry harmonies, an abundance of perfect chords, rare polytonal superimposition. Those are borrowed from the past (from Lully and Delibes), but divested of all historical reference to achieve an abstract purity.
• Stravinsky began Apollo on 16 July 1927, and completed the score on 9 January 1928. He chose to make a ballet blanc, which he composed for a refined instrumental force, manifested as a string orchestra of 34 instrumentalists: 8 first violins, 8 second violins, 6 violas, 4 first cellos, 4 second cellos and 4 double basses

When looking at the periods of dance it can be separated into Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Pre-Romantic, Romantic, Russian Classic, and Ballet Russes before we reach the Twentieth Century. Ballet began during what is known as the Italian Renaissance, and permeated French culture by Catherine de Medici’s marriage to the King of France. The very first endorsed “ballet”, Le Ballet Comique de la Reine performed on October 15, 1581, marked the beginning of theatrical and technical dance performances. During this time our first prominent ballet masters came about, including; Balthasar Beaujoyeaux, Pierre Beauchamp, Domenico of Ferrara, and Guglielmo Ebreo, to name a few. These early ballet masters created and built upon social dance and turned it into a technical spectacle.
Bela Bartok was a Hungarian composer, pianist, and ethnomusicologist. He was born in 1881 and died in 1945. Bartok was a significant contributor to the development of modern classical music. He was known for his use of folk music and created a new system of musical notation that enabled the transcription of non-western music. Many of the people are carrying as bags and shoes. The road that the cars and people are traveling on is surrounded by trees on both sides.

Stanislavski started acting at the age of 14 in the families own drama circles. He then honed his skills in other groups over time.
Nina Simone (Birth name: Eunice Kathleen Waymon) was an African-American singer born in the southern state of North Carolina on February 21st, 1933. She died on April 21, 2003, in Carry–le–Rouet, France. She was a famous singer and pianist and liked to blend blues, jazz, elements of classical style and more within her works. In the 1960’s she began to sing, write and protest about the Civil rights movements and also began to influence her audiences too. At age three she had started to play piano by ear, and then went on to play piano for her mother’s church a few years later, showing her incredible talent at such a young age.
William Shakespeare consistently uses language that displays celestial imagery in order to explore enduring themes such as love, loss, destiny and vengeance throughout his classic play Romeo and Juliet. Discuss the innovations in the music of Stravinsky’s ‘Russian Period’ with specific reference to The Rite of Spring and at least one other work. Igor Stravinsky, born in Russia 1882, is widely know as one of the most influential composer of the 20th century. Most notably, his composition The Rite of Spring is considered to be where his innovations in music come into perspective. I will discuss these innovations in detail using The Rite of Spring(The Rite) as a main reference and comparing it to some of his other works. Stravinsky’s compositions can be divided into three periods during his life; Russian Period, Neo-classicism and Post-war/Serialism.
Since the dawn of the 15th century, Ballet has had significant influence on dance internationally. Although originating in the Italian Renaissance Courts it was later developed in form by Russians. History indicates that up until 1689, ballet in Russia was non-existent due to the conservative attitudes at the time. However, by the early 20th century, the Russian Ballet was extending its performance outside the borders of its country. A key pioneer in the expansion of Russian ballet was Sergei Diaghilev.
