“Since it is so likely that children will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise, you are making their destiny not brighter but darker.” — C.S. Lewis. A popular debate that has been raging since the first comic was published is, are superheroes good role models? Superheroes are good role models for many reasons. They teach kids to be selfless, have the courage to do what’s right, to be dedicated and hardworking, and to be accepting of others. Superheroes are good role models. Superheroes teach kids to be selfless. Spider-Man is a great example of a superhero who is selfless. Spider-Man faced off against two of the Phoenix Five to make sure the Avengers could get to safety and finish their rescue mission. He barely got out alive. This shows that he put his comrade’s safety above his own. If it wasn’t for Spider-man’s selflessness, the rescue mission would have probably failed and the Avenger’s lives would be in even more …show more content…
They teach kids to be selfless, to have the courage to do what’s right, to be dedicated and hard working, and to accept all people despite any differences. As Steve Rodgers once famously quoted to Peter Parker, “It doesn't matter what the press says. It doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world - 'No, you move.’ This is what superheroes are teaching kids. They are encouraging them to become great people and great citizens who help make the world a better place. Superheroes are good role models. Thank
Some people cheer superheroes while the law hunts others as criminals, but both kinds of heroes have the same goals: a better world. So, what makes them different? Superman, Flash, and Captain America are all viewed as great heroes who consistently save lives and there are those such as Batman, Green Arrow, or Daredevil. This latter group is often considered by law enforcement as a threat as bad as the evildoers the heroes battle. Why is this? The answer is rather simple and is found in two concepts: proactive and reactive.
In the text “What’s With These Guys?” the text says “Superheroes fight for what for good, for freedom, for what is right” also, the text states “...qualities we value in our society:selfless, courage, grit , resilience. ”(pg18) this inpires us because when superheroes fight for what is right we want o do the same thing in our lives and be a superhero.
Every human being should have a hero. Many people view heroes as a fictional cartoon character. For younger kids, Spiderman is their hero. People don’t need super strength nor super speed to be a hero. A hero is someone who changes a person life for the better.
The first thing that comes to mind when hearing the word 'hero ', is comic books, avengers, justice league, super villains etc. Physically, they are usually tall, big, and super strong. On the mental side, they are described as someone who is brave, courageous, determined and are willing to help others and even risk their lives by taking sacrifices. All in all, a hero as seen by many, is portrayed as someone who represents the best qualities of ourselves. However, for someone to be considered a hero, they don 't necessarily need to have all of these qualities as described above.
A famous actor Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Being heroic does not always mean you’re special or well known. Since a hero shows determination, it drives them to help others and go beyond what’s expected of them. Heroes are people who go beyond expectations.
A man named Christopher Reeve once said, “I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles”. As Reeve said, any ordinary person can become a hero when they withstand both the mental and physical challenges of life. Unlike what most believe, heroes aren’t always the people you read about in comics who wear capes and have unrealistic superpowers, but are those who go beyond the ordinary and become the extraordinary. Heroism can be found in your average person who is willing to do what’s right when others won’t and are those who stay devoted to the task at hand, however they don’t give up when things get tough. Going beyond the call of duty and what’s expected, to do what’s
Many people would describe a hero to be someone with a cape on their back saving the world from its terrors, but let's face it that isn’t reality. A hero is a person of any race, upbringing, wealth income, age, and so forth that has a good heart and does deeds purely for the help of others rather than the show of it. An example of this would be Ponyboy Curtis, Johnny Cade, and Darry Curtis from the so called “hood” in a gang called the Greasers. Although they all have been through a lot and seen a lot in their years of living this has definitely shaped their minds and hearts on their actions. All in all, these young men have proven throughout the chapters one through six that they have these characteristics fit to be a hero.
Heroes in our society are revered and respected as Joseph Campbell reminds us: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes exist in all societies and throughout history. Maybe they are not always on the news or from the movies, but their words and their actions never fail to resonate across their feats. A hero gives of himself and dedicates himself to causes which better others and their society unlike individuals who are self serving, greedy, and cruel.
As humans, we tend to idolize people from all over the world for their remarkable qualities, bravery, actions, skills, leadership or ways of life. These people are often referred to as heroes, whether it is a leader, Superman, or a local community hero, they all share something in common, and it’s not a cape. What makes each of these people heroes? Their extraordinary character traits set them apart from their less noteworthy peers. While there is a myriad of traits that heroes possess, the most significant ones are their bravery, their willingness to ask for help, and their strength to always do what is honorable.
These traits are shown by Genghis Khan, Choi Yuna, my brother, and Odysseus. The fact that Odysseus and heroes in the modern age share the same traits proves how important they are for being a hero. In addition, every hero should be able to protect others out of kindness and for a cause they believe in. Without heroes, society would continue to make the same mistakes. As role models, they push society in the right direction and assist people in decision
Studying superheroes teach you about the liberally educated qualities listed by Cronon, and studying superheroes individually teach you the key virtues of connecting: selflessness, bravery and perseverance. In the end, to be able to learn, grow, and aid your community, you just need to connect with others. Connecting is what makes societies, superheroes, and liberally educated people come together and from a strong
Everybody has the opportunity to be a hero, but does everyone take it? A hero is someone who is respectful and willing to put their safety in harms way in order to keep others safe. In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy, a 14 year-old Greaser is a hero who is concerned about the well-being of people around him, and of people he might not even know. Johnny, the Outsiders Gang’s pet, is also a hero. Dally who is a hardened teenager in the Outsiders Gang is not a hero because he does not realize that there are more important things in life other than looking cool.
They inspire children to chase their dreams and to work hard for what they want in life. “As long as there is a dream, there is a dreamer”
I agree with Michael Uslan where he argues that superhero characters are a modern mythology. Although science can help explain the background of the superheroes powers, superheroes are usually regarded as a Saviour rather than a science experiment. Since superheroes are much more unrealistic, it tends towards being a mythology instead. Past mythology has iconic stories such as David and Goliath, the labours of Hercules, and the story of Moses. There are also counterparts which can be found in modern day comic books adventure.
Many children and teenagers have the thought that heroes are not real, because adults are constantly telling us heroes only exist in cartoons and movies. However, there are also, real life heroes that gave the best and saved the world. Heroes were always on the borderline between real and imagination. Unfortunately, most people when they think about heroes, they think about flying, knowing the future, and being invisible. As I mentioned up, heroes are people who do little things to save the world.
