“If we learn nothing from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate.” This quote comes from Sandy Dahl , the wife of the pilot on flight 93. When thinking about 9/11 this quote comes to mind because on that particular day, the world was reminded how short life really is. This quote also intertwines with 9/11 because it teaches us how there is no time to hate, but to move forward and help each other hand in hand. Even though I was only a year old when September 11th happened, I want to understand this horrific event that went down in history of the United States. These attacks were a changing point in American society because it increased the security in American airports, started a war in Iraq and Afghanistan, …show more content…
Terrorist campaigns were climbing in decades prior to 9/11. A group of terrorists attacked New York’s World Trade Center on February 26, 1993. The aim of this attack was to drive two bomb loaded trucks into the basement of a building to bring down both of the towers of the World Trade Center. The mission was not accomplished, but the attack did kill six people. The organizer of this attack was Ramzi Yousef, whose uncle went on to be the operational commander of the attack at the World Trade Center on 9/11. In 1997, bin Laden declared war against the United States, four years after the first Trade Center bombing. During this time, bin Laden was plotting his next attack to kill thousands of innocent Americans. In 1998, al-Qaeda suicide bombers drove truck bombs toward the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. More than 200 people were killed in this attack. All of these events demonstrated that al-Qaeda could carry out terrifying attacks thousands of miles away from its base in Afghanistan. Al- qaeda’s leaders did not care about their gruesome actions. In their minds, God was on their side so they could do no wrong. Many people to this day still question our government about the 9/11 attacks and why someone did not take action before it got to this point. Many ask the question “Did the government cover up its previous knowledge about
Did you know that the 9/11 attack was not the first terrorist attack on the World Trade Center? On the 11th of September in the year 2001, Islamic terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes and crashed two of them in the World Trade Center in New York City. One of the other planes was crashed into the Pentagon in Virginia while the last plane was driven to the ground in a field in Pennsylvania. 9/11 changed American society by improving security but also by increasing ongoing wars. Immigration and deportation were also increased because of 9/11.
In the aftermath of both acts of violence, the United States wanted to prove they would not be bullied by foreign powers. 9/11 was
Every American knows of the horrifying terror attacks that took place on September 11th, 2001, in New York and Washington, DC. The terrorist organization al Qaeda hijacked four airlines and flew two of them into the World Trade Center in New York, and one of them into the Pentagon in Washington. The fourth plane was stopped mid flight by its brave passengers and did not reach its intended target. Innocent civilians were now the casualties of war waged by an extremist muslim terrorist group based out of Afghanistan. The United States had never witnessed any terrorist attack of this size on its own soil previous to 2001.
9/11 was the most tragic attack to ever happen in America. The attack affected survivors all across America, it impacted the United States in financial ways, made a huge difference on how we are governed today and created more problems that we faced after the bombing. “Nearly 3,000 people were killed during the 9/11 bombing, and almost 1,200 were
On September 11, 2010, three jets were hijacked and destroyed twin towers in New York City and hitting the Pentagon. This terrorist attack killed over a thousand of people and plotting a huge spot in history. It affected people who lost loved ones in the tragedy. It also made people feel people feel unsafe to go airplanes and to travel anywhere. As a result to 9/11 the government response was to fight back, because of their response it was criticized.
On September 1, 2001, the country of the United States of America along with the world changed. An orchestrated attack on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and another target- unknown but possibly the White House -put in place by a group of terrorist, made headlines all over the world. These attacks cost the lives of many people in Washington D.C, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and New York City. In New York City, a total of 2,753 were killed when two planes were flown into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center.
It was directly focused on a military base. 9/11 is completely in the contrary. “‘We don’t know who the hell the enemy is,’”(USA Today, 1D). Also, the two hits on the twin towers, were not aimed at military bases. Instead, this was an act of terror on civilian work
The events that occurred on September, 11, 2001 were among the most catastrophic events in American history. The events of the day were summarized as 19 militants associated with the terror group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out targeted attacks in the United States. Out of the four planes, two of them were flown into the World Trade Center in New York, a third one into the Pentagon in Washington and the fourth one crashing off course into a field. The attacks resulted in the deaths of over 3000 people and the beginning of a soon to come American counter terrorism policy and the subsequent invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Although there are a lot of conspiracy theories around the real motives and players behind the attack,
The attacks on September 11 produced a greater fear of terrorism than ever before. The masterminds responsible for the attacks on September 11 executed a plan that killed about three thousand people. Bin Laden was prompted by his prejudice against the United States, among multiple other reasons. After the attacks, many people showed a simple act of patriotism by flying the American flag.
Both these events left the nation in shock and took quite a while for everything to get back to normal. Of course, these events have not been forgotten. It 's just sad how both these events have led to more terrorism acts in the world. We will never forget the tough times this nation has gone through and even if there will be more times this nation will struggle, we the people will be there to try and restore justice. We the people will be there ready to fight back.
The shock and disbelief of 9/11 revealed that America felt that something like this could not possibly happen to us. It showed that the security of our country had been compromised
The terrorist attacks on 9/11 have caused many debates over the years since they occurred back in 2001. Two American planes were hijacked and ran into the twin tower buildings, another was hijacked and headed for the pentagon, but thankfully never made it. Thousands of Americans lost their lives on the days of the attacks and to this day the sorrow hangs with us. Security was a huge debate of the time because America is supposed to be the safest nation there is, so how did this happen? America had lots of changes to make the attacks on September 11, 2001.
On September 11, 2001, many lives were changed forever when terrorists decided to crash a total of four airplanes into the Pentagon outside of Washington, D.C., the two World Trade Center towers in New York, and a field in Pennsylvania. While
It showed that even the most powerful country in the world was subject to attack. This attack exposed the vulnerability of the United States as a nation. The 9/11 attacks changed the country forever; some lost family members, friends, and those who survived are forever hunted by the events of September 11, 2001. The entire country was in pandemonium including my family.
“Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.” George W. Bush delivered this speech on the night of the September 11 attacks. The shattered steel of the Twin Towers, once towering the New York City skyline, forever changed America and its response to terrorism. The largest foreign attack on U.S. soil appropriately gave reason to Americans to recoil in fear and lose trust in the future, but in reality, the country displayed the opposite reaction.
