Legalization of Marijuana Introduction There have been a lot of debates on whether marijuana should be legalized or not. The debates on the legalization of marijuana have also been based on astringent research. As such, whether the debate is made from a political, medical, or economical perspective, the main concern has been if the Federal Government should be the sole decision maker when it comes to determining whether the use of the product is good or not. This paper will try to give an argument on whether the use of marijuana should be legalized or not by giving arguments from both sides. Reasons for legalizing marijuana Some reasons have been given to explain why legalizing marijuana should be done. To start with, the Canadian medical …show more content…
Being linked to other narcotics makes its legalization inappropriate as it will give room for other drugs to circulate in the market with ease. Again, marijuana is linked with unfashionable lifestyles like crime which affects the well-being of the society. The use of marijuana was at one point linked with oppressed ethnic groups. The use of the drug was initially closely linked to groups that appeared oppressed, thus discouraging any other person from a different social group from using it (Esther et al.165). Finally, all the purported medicinal use of the drug has not been scientifically proved, thus making it illegal to use the product for any medicinal purpose. The controversy over the use of the drug for medicinal purposes has made it hard to know whether it is good to legalize it or …show more content…
From the argument presented, it is clear that legalizing marijuana is still debatable as it has both its positives and negatives. From the argument, it is clear that legalizing the product has more benefits compared to the consequences that it brings to the society. Economically, legalizing the product will add to the economy of the country while at the same time giving researchers an opportunity to know whether medicinal marijuana is better compared to the other conventional medicines that are available. While those who are against the use of the product understand that it is highly addictive, those for its legalizing argue that once taken in small doses, the drug always brings more benefits compared to when overdosed. It is from the points presented that I support the legalization of the product as it will make it easy to control the sale and use of the drug in different parts of the
Legalizing a drug that’s been illegal for decades seems intimidating and nerving but if we instead focus on all the good that comes from legalization, we just may be taking a step towards the right
This subject has been debated numerous times over the past few years. People’s points of view and researches about the topic have varied greatly. Some people believe that marijuana should be legalized, while the rest feel should stay prohibited. Proponents of marijuana argue that there are numerous medical benefits and that the drug is not more harmful than tobacco or alcohol. On the other hand, opponents argue that marijuana is too dangerous; its legalization would increase the chances of the drug falling into the hands of teens and that marijuana use often progresses to the use of more dangerous drugs like heroin and cocaine.
More than half of Americans are in favor of marijuana legalization, and it has already been made legal in some states. It is a good idea to legalize medical marijuana. The other side of medical marijuana legalization is that it is detrimental to youth and users. Less than half of Americans believe that the use of medical marijuana is not beneficial medically. Many people believe that marijuana is a gateway drug and that the medical use will be abused and that people will become addicted to marijuana.
Back in the early twentieth century, marijuana was mainly used for medical purposes in the US. Now, both it 's recreational and medical use is increasingly being consumed by the population and the tendency is to continue increasing. Much has been said about the use of marijuana as a solution to different health problems, and although not everything that is said is true, it cannot be ignored that marijuana can help in the treatment of some cases of adult patients. CNN’s chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, was opposed to the medicinal use of cannabis. Based on his knowledge as a neurologist, he was convinced that the drug was dangerous and had dismissed its supposed therapeutic benefits.
With the pressure to legalize marijuana rise for government officials, protesters argue that decriminalizing marijuana would help society and benefit the people living in the Unites States. In states that have already legalized marijuana, it has been documented and proven that marijuana usage has been higher than before legalization, even if the consequences were very severe (“Marijuana Decriminalization”). If people are so highly dedicated to continuingcontinue using marijuana, even with their lives and future at stake, what could stop them? Marijuana has been proven to be a “gateway” drug, therefore, if marijuana were to be legalized, eventually other harmful substances could be legalized as well causing many deaths and various forms of
As a nation we have come to point where we must take a unified stand on the issue of marijuana. Since 1937 the drug has been deemed illegal by the U.S. government but over the best decade, people have been pushing for the decriminalization of the cannabis plant. As a non drug user, i have researched the internet in search of unbiased information regarding the drugs health, economic, and crime influences on society. The fruits of my labor have brought me to the undisputable conclusion that our continued restriction on possession and use of the drug not only violates the liberties of U.S. citizens, but it also is costing Americans Billions of dollars, and something, our lives.
Some would say marijuana is unsafe and ineffective, while others believe it to be effective in treating many medical conditions. Marijuana should be legalized for medical purposes because it is not a gateway drug, the government would be able to regulate it, and making marijuana completely illegal would not stop its use. To show the popularity of drugs and how
People believe that if marijuana is legalized users will get addicted. Marijuana use disorder become what is known as addiction when “the person cannot stop using the drug even though it interferes with many aspects of his or her life” (“Is Marijuana Addictive”). Although addiction is a problem, out of all the people who use marijuana, only 9% become dependent on it (“Is Marijuana Addictive”). Also, opioids and painkillers are very addictive as well, and they can lead to an overdose resulting in death. The second concern is abuse.
Legalization of Marijuana As humans, we all have been created differently; in addition to be different we all have our own opinions and beliefs about things. In the United States; one of the biggest controversies is the legalization of marijuana. The effect of marijuana has been so diverse that it's hard for the stats to prove whether it will benefit communities or not. Overall the results have shown the positive effects of marijuana but what some people have displayed while under the influence has destroyed the original purpose of the drug. Marijuana should be legalized because of how it has helped people overcome real life depression and to cope with the struggles of life with the addition to collecting oneself.
Research about marijuana usage is expanding and people is really starting to understand it. I believed marijuana should be legalized for several reasons. It has good purposes and if its legalized it will give researches a better understand of its usage. Studies had shown that marijuana could help manage chronic pain and muscle spasms. The major mechanism through which legalization is likely to increase recreational cannabis use is by substantially reducing the price of cannabis (Hall & Lynskey, 2016).
The topic of this controversial essay will be about is the legalization of marijuana. I will be advocating for the legalization of marijuana. The legalization of marijuana is so controversial because it was outlawed in the past, but now people are discovering new things it could do and wish to have it legalized once again. The legalization of marijuana can offer medical benefits, generate a lot of tax money, and decreases prisoner space. The legalization of marijuana can offer many health benefits.
Cons of Legalizing Recreational Marijuana Marijuana legalization, for whatever reason, has been a topic of heated debate for years now. Different people express different opinions about why or why not it should be legalized for recreational use. The American FDA categorizes marijuana as a Schedule I drug meaning that its benefits are not guaranteed as many people claim. Although the drug has been said to contain medical benefits, the reality is that further research on how and when to use it is needed. Different states have legalized the use of Marijuana for medical reasons.
The legalization of any form of simulative substance is important when constructing or upholding a broken community and nation. The undeviating debate whether marijuana (weed, or cannabis as other popular names) should be legal nationally, and universally, has been exasperatedly been on for many years throughout the world today. The impact marijuana has amongst the society of today’s interrupts the basic cognitive thinking whether marijuana should be legal state and province wise, nationally, and even universally for many of its positive effects it provides for our society whether it be medically, job-wise, or recreational reasons. Think about it, if alcohol, cigarettes, and the consumption of fatty foods known as junk food are legal shouldn’t
The history of marijuana as well as the information and studies drawn and discussed in this essay show that marijuana legalization for medical and/or recreational purposes will not only positively impact society, but also change the society’s idea of marijuana use as a deviant act. Deviant behavior negatively impacts society, therefore the idea that marijuana use is a positive impact for society will, in turn, change the idea that marijuana use is an act/form of
Why Marijuana Should be Legal Marijuana is a very prominent issue in society today. Many false and slanderous things have been said about marijuana in recent times. But the truth about marijuana continues to reveal itself. Sadly these truths are being criticised because of the stereotypical view that many people call the typical “pot smoker”.
