Most Americans are traditionalists when it pertains to sporting competitions and the fundamental idea of athletes competing with their own sex. However, many rules and regulations were lifted regarding who can compete in these competitions. Subsequent to 1972, students involved in athletics and academics were no longer allowed to be discriminated against, regardless of gender. Title IX was instituted on June 23rd, 1972. According to Title IX, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” This text was the original content that was signed into law by President …show more content…

For instance, in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, a transgendered athlete named Caster Semenya and three other transgendered males ran the females 800-meter dash. After a staggering time of 1:55.33, Semenya and the other three completely dominated the competition against the biological women. Many female athletes that competed against Semenya agreed that every moral and ethical aspect about the very nature of this competition was broken when he prevailed and won. Not only was the top three placers all male to female athletes, but the top biological female placed fifth in this race. Not only did she place fifth, but the other four athletes that won this race were also non-biological females. No other transgendered athlete placed below fourth. The rankings of this race proves the unfairness of transgendered athletes competing against biological gendered athletes. Semenya and the other winners are physically showing the biological difference, along with the moral and ethnic disadvantage against the other athletes that truly deserved to win. This aspect provides a moral disadvantage to some males, as they might not feel right groping a female in a full-fledged physical contact sport, such as football or wrestling. In order to make a play correctly, a linebacker must connect with another and successfully bring them to the ground. Some men wouldn't feel comfortable tackling a female, just for a “game”. In non-contact sports, the appearance of a female can and will cause an intimidating disadvantage. While some male athletes have the mindset of not wanting to lose to a girl, other males may become an awkward train-wreck.
