Although this plan is great for the economy, some might argue that there are certain repercussions that should be taken into consideration. For example, by making community college free, the program would cost $60 billion in the course of 10 years in a cost-sharing program with the states (Butler 1). Although this sounds like it’s a substantial amount of money, it is manageable. In regards to the benefits of the proposal, this is a small price to pay. In the long run it is better for the economy. As stated before, the proposal creates more job opportunities which encourage economic growth. In addition to the great aid the proposal offers economically, it also offers vast social prosperity. Many of the people attending community college are very ambitious and are very affable. The environment in a community college is very sociable which advocates a better education. There are many different people in community college including veterans, of marital and maternal status, and middle-aged men wanting to improve their employment prospects (Hanks). Hanks shows how diverse and ambitious the community college environment is. One might object that the efficiency of the student might decline because of how social the college is and how prone the students are to distractions at a community college. To some extent this is true however, President Obama’s proposal prevents this from …show more content…
Under matching is essentially students who have great academic proficiency and are capable of attending rigorous universities but choose not because of financial problems (Butler). Although it might seem as if the proposal would be adding more fuel to the fire by indirectly promoting to attend a community college it is irrelevant and doesn’t change anything. Going to a community college doesn’t mean they are denied the right to go to a challenging university. They still have the opportunity to attend later on in the
This would not help the people working to get money to go to the universities. The colleges would still bring people to the state but wont cause a big social change in the people without a

Another piece of useful information the he provides is in regard to accessibility. Husky states that community colleges operate on an open admission model, and that a diverse student body results from such a policy. Furthermore, he correctly argues that community college is a place where those who did not do well in high school can go to prove themselves at the college level.
In the article “Two Years are Better than Four” Addison addresses community college as “America’s hidden public service gem” (Addison). She explains how community college has been often not even thought of as an option when young adults are
However, it is still an issue for students to cough up that money. The idea of making community college free to any student in America has been a dream for low income students for a while. President Obama’s desire to make the tuition of community college to everyone in the nation would only make it difficult for students to get a free education, limit them to essential resources, and discourage students from applying to four year universities. Granting free community college tuition to incoming freshmen will draw “more students to already crowded community colleges”. Along with the overcrowded campuses, a very long waiting list will soon form making it just as competitive to get into a four year university.
It shows employers that they can learn at a higher level and put in the dedication to finish something challenging. While we are conditioned to go to the best schools and attend the most elite institutions, college can be completed at a fraction of the price. Many students can attend junior colleges, and public universities to earn their credits at a fraction of the price of a State college. They can use cost-saving educational platforms such as Sophia learning, Study.com, or Saylor to earn credits at a fraction of the cost and time. Students have the opportunity to apply for thousands of scholarships and bursaries to reduce the cost of their education.
According to an article titled “Free Community College”, a program called “America’s College Promise... would provide tuition-free classes for students who go to school at least half time, maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher, and are making steady progress toward a degree or transferring to a four-year institution.” When one compares this provision with the admittance requirements at state and university campuses, this program is reasonably easy to get into. For a high school graduate this program is a cheap and easy solution to getting a college education. The qualifications are not strict, and students would be readily accepted. The President has stated clearly that he wants everyone in the America to go to school for at least two years in a community college so they can be educated and provide a steady income for their family.
A community college is an inexpensive proposition that enables one to kick start ones career; it helps one to carry forward credits to the graduate colleges; very importantly, it enables one to do work and obtain education in a manner that is very job centric. Since the community colleges place a lot of emphasis on job oriented learning, so it goes without saying that pass outs or graduates from a community college have an advantage as far as the jobs are concerned. Let us take a look at the very genesis of a community oriented college. Long ago, there have been massive arguments about whether or not community college should be free. Nowadays, a college education has become fundamental in today's society. Each year, education is becoming challenging in today's marketplace. Thus, many people, including students question whether community college tuition should be free given. I firmly believe free community college should be provided and financed by the U.S. government.
We can attend a broad range of high-quality courses at a low tuition cost within a convenient geographical location compared to taking student loan, and expend thousands for cost of living at a university. When we consider enrollment as a factor of decision, community colleges offer enrollment to students with a variety of educational backgrounds, from outstanding students who can’t afford attending a four-year program to students who lack the credentials to get into a four-year college, and to immigrants from all over the world like myself who may have a different educational background than those in the states. Payoff is additional basis for our decision. Many high-return fields, such as health care, computer programming are some examples offered by community-college for students requiring relatively low high-school GPAs but still availing the opportunity of better paycheck upon completion. Overall, community colleges play a principal role in increasing the earnings of students who would have difficulty lifting up their career prospects by completing a four-year study programs.
In the United States a community college is defined as a nonresidential junior college offering courses to people living in a particular area. They are post secondary schools and are also referred to as junior colleges, vocational or technical schools because generally the course of study is for two years. The student can earn an associates degree or certification and/or continue their education by transfering to a four year college to complete their educational pursuits and earn a Bachelor 's degree. Community colleges started in the late 1800’s and have grown and evolved over the years. Today many four year colleges and universities have become so expensive to attend that many prospective students are opting for the more affordable alternative of a community college for their first two years of study where they can save money by living at home and taking classes that will transfer to a four year institution, however, there are students that cannot afford the lower cost of community colleges.
If college can be free, more students would go to school and to get a higher degree for themselves. Then after graduating college without debt, students can be able to think about their own life such as doing business, buying house, etc. Also a better - educated population can make positive effect on the society. Community colleges are important because they provide an affordable alternative to postsecondary education. They offer open admission, flexible schedules, and convenient locations. Community colleges make up a large part of the higher education system, enrolling more than six million students and growing rapidly. They help students become prepared to enter the workforce or transition into a four-year school. But even with all the steps taken to make community colleges accessible to all, there are still thousands of students who cannot afford to attend.
This will help students prepare for college instead of preparing for nothing. In my opinion, college bound scholarship was a genius idea. I state this because of many reasons, First of all, this reduces anxiety a parent might have. Like I said before, a parent might feel responsible that their children is not going to college and feel like it's unacceptable and work maybe 2 jobs to get the money. This is not healthy as it create stress and discomfort in the family.
Although college is stressful and time consuming , having your dream career, is a huge life achievement. Having a job isn’t the same as having a career “I've learned that making a 'living' is not the same thing as 'making a life”(Maya Angelou). If you sell yourself short by not going to college you’ll end up working just to make ends means not because it's what you enjoy doing, it's due to your family counting on it. Those who go to college will end up having a better future than those who don’t. I agree that going to college is more beneficial because my view on the topic states that in order to have a secure and clear future you must go to college.
