Have you ever owed someone $20? Well, imagine owing someone $100,000+ . Many students every year are left in crippling debt that can affect them for the next few decades of their life. Because of the cost of college, many students fresh out of high school can’t go to college. In order to make it easier for the lower-class to go to college, you should do at least one of the following things. The first is give grants to states so they can help pay for colleges, therefore, making more people able to go to college. The second is being able to get 3-year bachelor degrees which are currently being done in Europe right now. The third is to increase the federal minimum wage which would make teens and others who work a minimum wage job able to go to make more money which would make it easier to go to college. The price of college is a huge problem for students everywhere because a college degree has become a necessity for higher paying jobs. The rising cost of college started in 1927 when more and more people started going to college to get …show more content…
Now you might be correct about going to college not being a right but like I said before so many future jobs will require degrees that only college can get you. In an article done by the Bureau of Department of Labor, it states that “According to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), earnings increase and unemployment decreases as educational attainment rises. Grouping workers by education level, the chart shows that those with more education have higher earnings and lower rates of unemployment than those with less education,” (Education Matters 1). This quote basically says that the more education you get the more money you get. So with this data I can confirm that the higher the education that you get the more money you get so people with no degree will end up stuck behind and unable to really help the economy
Not having free or low college tuition impacts many people, “between 2011-12 and 2016-17 tuition and fees have increased 9% at four year public schools, 11% at two year public schools, and 13% at
The fact that not everyone needs to go to college is the main point that Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill write about in great detail throughout their essay. Even though the authors do say that people that go to college usually earn more, they state that this is on “average,” and that the key focus of their essay is to focus on those that the benefits are not greater than the cost of going to college. (Page 211, Paragraph 1). They also include a graph right under the text that shows how “on average” people with a college degree earn more than those that are just high school graduates. (Page 211, Figure one).
Reducing College Tuition College can either be a rude awakening for some students or it can be an opportunity for higher learning, but the goal is the same: to obtain a higher education and become successful. The purpose of college is to open people’s minds to new thoughts and ideas. Higher education offers knowledge and wisdom, but most of all, it offers experience, which is what people look for and desire when they think about attending college. Unfortunately, there is just one barrier keeping people from obtaining higher education, and that barrier is the price tag of college tuition.
The student loan issues are causing huge problems on both students and society it seems clear enough that students are borrowing a lot of student debt, and they are failing on that debt and aren’t capable of paying it back and that is destroying their ability and threatening their ability to access any more credit in the future. The approaches students are taking to a student loan debt collection are fraught with many problems, including bad recovery tactics and failing on making repayments on the debt. There is no escaping the fact that the cost of college tuition is on the rise and it’s not declining, and that is making it more difficult for students to obtain a degree which is really important to acquire to be able to function in today’s
However, it is still an issue for students to cough up that money. The idea of making community college free to any student in America has been a dream for low income students for a while. President Obama’s desire to make the tuition of community college to everyone in the nation would only make it difficult for students to get a free education, limit them to essential resources, and discourage students from applying to four year universities. Granting free community college tuition to incoming freshmen will draw “more students to already crowded community colleges”. Along with the overcrowded campuses, a very long waiting list will soon form making it just as competitive to get into a four year university.
In the last fifty years the world has gone under many changes but one that is really shocking is the escalating prices of colleges. Since 1985, the price tag in American colleges and universities has
For those who have graduated from high school and will continue with their higher education, many if not all of these students will have to pay out of pocket for college. Most of students think that if they graduate from college or a four-year university they will have a chance to work in the professional field rather than work for minimum wage. It is an opportunity for anyone, particularly those who have low wages, to earn a degree and make more money. In the article “Expanding Community College Access” from The New York Times, President Obama states that tuition for community college should be free, because the American workforce is not educated enough for the global and national workplace. The presiding evidence and statements from experts
The financial burdens that college leaves with the families and students needs to be addressed as student loans keep racking up over time. The cost of tuition for colleges has risen drastically over the years and has bounded students to only one or two college choices to choose from and at some points tearing away the opportunity to go to their dream college. However, one reason college has driven up in price is because the value it brings with it’s degrees, but it should not limit those who can not afford the worthy degree. College should be cheaper as it will ease financial burdens and broaden the choices of those wanting to attend
Some college students are working part-time jobs and are full-time students. Perhaps, working through college will not always cover all of a student's education expenses including books, supplies, room and board. If free tuition is given, students will have further time to educate themselves. Moreover, college tuition and prices are at an all-time high. Each year, prices are rising higher and higher.
To begin with, going to college can help people gain greater wealth. In the article, “Five Ways Ed Pays,” its stated that “you can earn up to 22,000 more per year” (“Five Ways Ed Pays”). High school graduates will have a much harder time finding high paying jobs without a
Many people dream of a life filled with riches, but that dream is hard to obtain without a college degree. It is somewhat ironic how people dream of being a successful student and going to college but the cost of tuition turns that dream into a horrible nightmare. It is not a shock to most people when they that college tuition is expensive, but in the past few years it has increased to an all-time high. Lower and middle class students have now begun to realize that college tuition is holding them away from their dreams. Even though college tuition could provide opportunities for job creation and economic growth, tuition is not affordable for the average American household which in effect, prohibits students from taking opportunities like going to college in the first place.
Living where we live, you begin to comprehend that living off of $11.00 per hour including with your family will never suffice your needs. Getting a college degree can ensure the graduate a higher chance of being able to earn more financially. In the article “Why College Isn't And Shouldn't Have to be For Everyone” by Robert Reich, he states that “A degree from a prestigious university can open doors to elite business schools and law schools-and to jobs paying hundreds of thousands, if not millions. ”Even though Reich’s article is on the opposing side of the argument, he fails to overlook the fact that in the long run having a college degree will, and can open doors to many new opportunities. One of those opportunities is to be able get a well paying job that can earn more than the average non college graduate.
Today, I will speak of a very important issue that is present today in the United States of America. We need to make college affordable to every American. The cost of education has skyrocketed over the past few decades. “Over the past three decades, the average tuition at a public four-year college has more than a tripled, while a typical family’s income has barely budged” (Making College Affordable 1). Every hardworking student should be able to go college despite of how wealthy they are.
Is College Worth the Cost? Life’s success is achieved in different ways. (Director, n.d.) A lot of television programs and magazines instills the idea in us that being successful means; having a fulfilling career, having a lot of money and being powerful. Most religious and spiritual organizations, in contrast, claim that success means being at peace with God and finding spiritual happiness.
Society often believes college is a necessary experience for a better future, but I argue that the future will not be any better when student debt becomes a part of life for those who follow that mainstream belief. Most parents often dream of the great colleges and universities that their children will get accepted into; however, they fail to think of the cost to attend those institutions. Financial aids! Financial aids! Yes there are financial aids that students can apply to lessen the student debt.
