Right now, nurses all over the country are busy taking care of sick patients. Healthcare is continually evolving and changing. It seems like patient’s needs are becoming greater by the day. We’ve been told for years now that with the aging of the baby boomers the need for nurses will grow. These patients are often complex with multiple medical problems that need to be managed. These growing patient needs require nurses to have excellent critical thinking skills and can make split-second life or death decisions. So, who is more prepared for these difficult decisions? I feel that I went through a rigorous program that produces good nurses. However, now looking back I do feel as though the program was geared towards preparing students to take the test rather being prepared to make split second decisions. Baccalaureate prepared nurses, in general, have two more years of school than and Associates prepared nurse. Not only do they take more nursing classes but, more general education classes as well. For example, as a part of my bachelor’s education, I was required to have extra math, science, and history courses that were not required for my associate’s degree. This makes bachelor’s degree nurses overall more educated and better prepared to handle more complex situations at their patient’s bedside. What opportunities are available to Bachelors prepared nurses? Anyone who is interested in any kind of leadership position should plan on getting a bachelor’s degree. For example, at the facility I currently work at you can be hired to be a clinical manager with the understanding that you will go to school to receive your bachelor’s degree within the first few years. Due to hospital care reaching an all-time high in America, we need nurses now more than ever before. Currently in America, we have an issue with nurses having too many paperwork to fill out. In the article “We Need More Nurses” by Alexandra Robbins argues we need more nurses in the hospital. Nursing shortage has been a common issue throughout the world. Because of this issue others are being affected in many different ways.
While many nurses have an Associate’s Degree in Nursing which gives them the education and skills to enter the job field, a Bachelors of Science in Nursing opens more job opportunities, higher paid salary and more job accountability. With the trend of all new hired nurses being require to have a BSN there is no time like the present to take advantage of a higher education. There are many benefits for a registered nurse to obtain their BSN, many Magnet Hospitals will not hire without a BSN or to be enrolled in a BSN program. The factor of increasing complexity of patient health require higher education for the liability of safe practice, thus is an agreeable requirement for employers to place upon the employees. Nurses are critical for promoting health in the society. The profession is highly flexible, since they specialize in diverse operations in the medical field. Registered nurses, for instance, are responsible for the administration of medicine and inoculations to patients (American Nurses ' Association, 2000). Additionally, these professionals observe, record, and enlighten doctors of any changes in a patient’s health. Nurses interpret and evaluate diagnostic examinations to determine an individual’s condition, as well as making the necessary adjustments in patient treatment plans on their health progress.
The school of nursing also stands out as a national leader when it comes to education of health professionals. I am very eager to start my experience as a Rutgers Undergraduate and I believe that it’s well known academic curricula of the baccalaureate-nursing program would be consistent with what I have learned so far. Not only do I feel that being accepted into the program would prepare me to become a nurse who is prepared to provide quality health care needs of the diverse population, but will also give me the local, national and international leadership skills for great health care
Secondly, the baccalaureate nurse conducts effective communication with clients and colleagues. Maintaining effective communication is part of ensuring that the quality management process works efficiently. Promoting effective communication in health care improves the quality of patient care and health outcomes. Additionally, the nurse ensures the accuracy of patient identification and health records using new technology.
All this education has provided me with the abilities, knowledge, strengths, work ethics to be a proud and efficient professional working in the competitive nursing field. The BSN program has provided me with new knowledge and new skills, that have helped me to evolve into a more competent and professional nurse with stronger nursing knowledge, ethics, and moral values. Each course that I took during the BSN program was a new opportunity to strengthen my knowledge, ability to do research, and critical thinking skills expanding my knowledge and making me feel confident of my abilities to work as an important part of an interdisciplinary team. Barb is a transformational leader. This has been very effective among our team. Managing people with higher education can be very tricky at times and undoubtedly intimidating. Barb has the ability to “motivate and inspire followers and to direct positive changes” (Cherry, 2006), within our group. She strives on a daily basis to encourage and enthuse her team which empowers us to make constructive changes in our group.
The diploma course for the enrolled nurse was introduced in 2010 and the nurses completed their course in 2011 and started entering the workforce since 2011 (Jacob, Mckenna & D’Amore, 2013). The RN and other practicing nurses in the workforce are unaware of what qualifications are included and what competencies they can demonstrate, which is confusing for other parties. This results in overlapping the roles of a RNs and ENs. Every year there is changes seen in the competencies and role of an Enrolled nurses. Which is not clarified to the health setting therefore causing more issues.
