In the Chicago smog, H.H. Holmes lured hundreds of victims into his murder mansion, and killed them seemingly without motive or conscience. In The Devil in the White City, Erik Larson goes into a detailed description of the murders of H.H. Holmes and delves into what his motives might be. The motives of Holmes serial killings were pleasure and profit. Holmes would profit off murder by selling skeletons, life insurances fraud, and as a business strategy. “Superman and me,” by Sherman Alexie is about a boy, Sherman, who grows up in an Indian reservation and becomes different than most Indians around him. He began teaching himself to read and other things at a very young age. What he learned to read with was actually a superman comic book. The heroic vibe is definitely well used throughout the story. You can look at many different quotes in the story that would do the heroic vibe justice, but this one in particular sticks out; “I throw my weight against their locked doors.
My topic is the Batman: The Dark Knight, one the. The main theme of this movie are good vs evil, they are clearly define in the movie though the action of Batman and The Joker. Batman raises the pledge on his war against crime and corruption in Gotham city. With the help of the district attorney and Jim Gordon, Batman, the protagonist, sets out to break up the remaining criminal organizations (Lau) that plague the city streets. A superhero can be defined as someone who has super power or use some gadgets that normal person don’t have access to.
The Devil in The White City, by Erik Larson is a curious piece of history work, the book is not historical fiction nor is it a basic book of history. Mister Larson has created a book that is an essential work in understanding America and her people in the early 1890’s and the rise of Chicago as being one of the most important cities in the United States. Before the magic that transformed Chicago into the famous White City, Chicago was known by a different title: The Black City. Chicago in the late 1800’s was not an easy or clean place to live in, as one Chicagoan, Ben Hecht, states “It was pleasant, in a way, to know that outside their windows the devil was still capering in a flare of brimstone.” What change Chicago from staying as the dangerous
In the Movie, “The Dark Knight” Bruce Wayne is faced with difficult moral dilemmas. These dilemmas raise some interesting ethical questions. The philosopher that Bruce Wayne most relates to in my opinion would be Kant and his deontological ethics. Deontological means “for the sake of duty” and the reason why Bruce Wayne created his alter ego “The Batman” was because he wanted to bring justice to the city of Gotham and protect and serve without having two personalities coming into conflict most of the time.
This paper describes three particular scenes throughout The Dark Knight and elaborates on those scenes in terms of three specific psychological principles. The psychological principles discussed in this paper is Kohlberg 's theory of postconventional morality, the social trap theory, and antisocial personality disorder. One scene that illustrates Kohlberg 's postconventional morality is Batman 's rather rough interrogation of the Joker. In this scene, Batman is interrogating the Joker in order to receive directions regarding where Harvey Dent and Rachel were (they were strapped up to chairs surrounded by bombs in different locations).
The film that will be analysed is ‘The Dark Knight’ which is a drama/ crime film directed by Christopher Nolan, which was released on the 16th of July 2008. The main characters in ‘The Dark Knight’ are Batman/ Bruce Wayne (Christen Bale), Harvey Dent/ Two-face (Aaron Eckhart), Joker (Heath Ledger), Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal) and Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman). The scenes which will be investigated are Wayne’s party, the SWAT car chase and Jokers interrogation.
Nolan is a true devotee to the ‘real’ and practical elements of film. His faithfulness to creating worlds and characters based on reality engenders an insatiable appetite for his work in the palates of audiences. This is, of course, fitting since Nolan plays on every moviegoer’s deepest – often hidden in the subconscious – desire, to see himself reflected on the big screen. It is this quality of humans, to seek themselves in others, that makes Nolan’s approach thrilling for the audience. His covenant to realism only enhances this excitement and makes both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight successful.

I have chosen Batman as the superhero I have conducted my research on. Batman is of course a fictional superhero owned by DC Comics. He first appeared in a detective comic in the May of 1939, written by Bill Finger. He was first known as The Bat-Man and later, the Dark Knight and world’s greatest detective. Batman is the secret identity of Bruce Wayne, who lives in Gotham, who is a billionaire philanthropist and industrialist.
