Many people don’t realize how different their life could be with just one small change; they could have been fostered. Being fostered has a big effect on children because they don’t learn the same skills we do. Some of the fostered children may get lucky and find a home that would help teach them the different skill set they may need to succeed, but not all of the children are that lucky. Some children who don’t get that luxury and skill set are left at in the system until they become too old or they get emancipated. The number of children in foster care has grown to over half a million, as of 2003; though in 1980 there were only about three hundred thousand children in foster care (Shirk & Strangler 2006). I believe this paper held very well information and statistics on children in foster care. The foster system can be a mess because so many children are being placed in foster homes where they face maltreatment and negative behaviors. With the growing numbers of foster children finding a good, safe foster home is becoming hard to find. Many people apply to foster simply for money from the state. Few qualifications exist to be a foster parent and in some states, check-ins on foster homes are rare because of a large number of children in the system and not enough social workers.
The children may not be able to form an attachment with the care givers or foster
While they are away from their biological families they may be worrying about what is to come next or even their biological families. There has been evidence of foster parents abusing kids as well, and some people believe the states doesn't check up on the services as much

Oher worked hard throughout his entire high school years, graduated from the University
Growing up in foster care can be challenging, then transitioning out of foster care into the real world can be extremely difficult without the acquired skills and the support of family. It may seem as though there are too many odds and statics stacked up against you, waiting for you to fail. My injustice project helps to address these issues through mentoring and building relationships letting them now that they are important and can do anything they set their mind to accomplish. The concepts of social stratification, status, privilege and oppression relate to the topic of transitioning foster children by informing previous understandings and societal views.
This child may have to attend school in dirty clothes, with no access to clean water to bathe. These are just a few of the issues that some children face. It seems like a great idea to remove the child from these situations. The number one priority for the foster system is to remove children from any physical danger or neglect they experience. Once they are removed, they deal with being placed in a strange place, still wondering about their next meal or a place to sleep at night.
Again, supporting the butterfly effect the children are not showing responsibility or a good work ethic. Nearly one half children in foster care in U.S. become homeless when they turn eighteen. One if every ten foster child stays in foster care longer than seven years. Each year about 15,000 reach the adult age and leave the system without a permanent family—many join the ranks of the homeless or to commit crimes and be imprisoned
Have you ever thought about how it feels to be ripped out of the only place that you know as home? To get no explanation of why your parents just did not want you anymore? Not a lot of people think about this. Usually, the only people that do think about this is children that are experiencing or have experienced this problem. The children’s rights website stated that, “On any given day, there are nearly 428,000 children in foster care in the United States.”
