Fahrenheit 451
All over this world, there has never been any kind of peace or freedom. There will always be some kind of conflict or even some kind of pressure that puts a border against each other trying to reach that sort of peace. One of those things is book burnings. Book burnings have been around for many centuries. In real life and in books, like the novel Fahrenheit 451. Although, for what apparent reason? There are so many, but the main causes are because of people's beliefs, their ideas, or religion. In Fahrenheit 451, book burnings were because the people themselves wanted to get rid of them. Although some people didn't want that so they kept a few books

Not only do adults do it, but teenagers too. Sometimes they know what they're doing while other times they are pressured into doing it; it can either be by their friends or even their own parents. Mr.Hajdu expresses that in his book. All around the world, people will make you believe in what they believe in. A reason why book burnings turn out so popular is because so many people show up to them. Most of the time they don't know why they are there. They are just there because everyone else is. In the book Fahrenheit 451, everyone would watch on the telly or come out of their homes to see the firemen burn someone's home and books. Book burnings are not always happening because people disagree with one another; they also happen because people believe that it is “cool” or “everyone does it,” because of pressure on them by …show more content…
In 1992-93 a conflict occurred between Georgians and Abkhazians. It was not a necessary conflict, but it happened. The war after the Soviet Union, Georgians paramilitaries broke into the institute of the Abkhazian Language Literature and History in Sukhumi and set it on fire. Quickly the fire was put out but the Georgians returned but with extra force. Again, they set it ablaze while their extra force backed the others who were trying to save it away. This time over 95% of it was destroyed. Also another example is on June 22, 2011 in the Netherlands a group burned the covers of the book The Book of Negroes by Lawrence
In the book Fahrenheit written by Ray Bradbury talks about a guy by the name of Montag, who is a fireman in a controlled government environment. Throughout part one and two Montag starts to realize how his government is controlling little aspects around him and starts to question the environment around him. In this controlled government, the citizens are banned from reading books. However, the firemen as Montag are demanded to burn every book in site and the place where they found them from. So instead of putting out fires like firemen do they start them by burning the books.
The Nazi book burning that occurred in 1933 took place during a very dark time in our world’s history. The Nazi regime, which was ruled by Hitler, had taken over most of Germany by this point in time as what we now know as the Holocaust. The word Holocaust means “sacrifice by fire”, and is displayed partly by the burning of an estimated eighty to ninety thousand volumes. The burning of books that took place during the Holocaust is very similar to the actions that take place in the novel Fahrenheit 451.
In the novel Fahrenheit 451, the dystopian world that people live in is burning books. Based on how the rules are being followed in the story, it is proven that it is good to challenge the rules because some rules cause harm to others. “It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed.” As it shown here, instead of putting out fires, fire men start the fire.
Books are often the embodiment of concepts expressed through writing that may be influential in the fields of culture, religion, and politics. Through the process of burning, books have been destroyed in order to expurgate heretical ideals in the past. Arguably the most infamous instances are the book burnings under the Nazi Party during the era of Nazi Germany. These burners of books are alluded to in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 as the firemen of the dystopian novel censor the material contained in books through the method of incineration. 1984 by George Orwell portrays the dangers of a totalitarian government including censorship as well.
when the Nazis burned the books to restrict free speech and open communication of ideas, they later turned to burning human corpses like the jews during the Holocaust. so to restrict human liberty in one season becomes a tool where it can lead to much graver violations of humanity in another. it all has to start somewhere, so burning books is a very dangerous precedent.
The government's rules of burning books was a major twist leading to a lack of empathy and dehumanization. Burning books was a law that the government of the concealed city of the United States made, so that the knowledge and the information that the books gave wouldn’t reach the citizens living in the concealed city. This would relate to the lack of empathy and lead to dehumanization because reading wouldn’t give any information and knowledge to the citizens and by this it would lead to a lack of empathy which means they won’t be able to connect and talk to people as fluently. Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451 emphasizes an important theme that a lack of empathy leads to dehumanizing everyone and a demolishing of human vitality, a theme
Ray Bradbury wrote this book not to talk about the future but to point out the problems in todays society, such as not wanting to read or watching tv all the time and believing everything that they put on the tv without taking into consideration of both side of the story and listening to the facts. Not wanting to read is a huge problem now a day because we are less educated and we are willing to give up books because they're not appealing to us. Also the fact that if it is said on the tv or on the internet everyone is guilty of it even if your don’t think so. Books now-a-day aren’t a huge parts of today society we don’t want to read anything but when we do we just look them up on the internet. There are both good and bad part about this the obvious bad one is we will be an ignorant race, evolution has made us smart but now we have people who ask why show I read when I have “swag”.
The Censorship of Nazi Book Burning The nazi book burnings took place because of hate of the allies, and the countries they live in. The book burnings are still highly controversial today. Many people think it was stupid, even barbaric. As it is, did you know that The Nazis always burned American texts?
The firefighters, who once fought fires and saved houses, now start fires for the purpose of burning the house’s illegal book contents. Books have been outlawed, for the reason that they cause people to think, and to question theirs and others’ lives. Even the Bible, once the most popular book in the world, now only has a single copy due to being burned. As Gaurav Mehta quotes, “Life without books is life without oxygen. It is only because of books that we are able to communicate with each other.”
The novel, Fahrenheit 451, presents a future society where books are prohibited and the firemen burn any that are. The title is the temperature at which books burn. It was written by Ray Bradbury and first published in October 1953. In this novel, protagonist Montag changes his understanding in various aspects such as love or his human relationship throughout the book. However, among all of these, fire – the main theme of this novel – has the most significance as it also changes his understanding of knowledge from books.
In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury conceptualizes a society based on censorship. In the society depicted in the novel, books are burned when they are discovered in anyone 's possession. Montag’s job is to burn books and the houses containing them to ash. “‘Do you ever read any of the books you burn?’ ‘That’s against the law’”
(Book Burning). In the book like in real life, 'Fahrenheit's fireman prohibited books so people feel the same about the majority of the things they were taught. Montag loved to burn books like the Nazis, He loved to watch the homes go up in flames so he can enjoy the scenery of the fireflies and the sky swarmed in black and yellow. However, after Montag realized what books purpose was, he became depressed because he felt that other people should experience the passion books give you. ' Fahrenheit 451's censorship is wrong because they prohibit books but allow movies that give no education whatsoever to the citizens.
Books have been banned in this society due to the controversy over many topics and opinions. Rather than Fighting fires, firemen produce fires. The firemen burn the illegal books and the houses which shelter them. Throughout the story Fahrenheit 451, censorship has affected society by dehumanizing citizens, creating fear of individuality, and causing more rebellion, conflict, and crime. Dehumanization is one
Ray Bradbury wrote the book Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury relates many things in the book that has happened in the world today like watching tv instead of paying attention to the books and are not looking at the world. People today would rather watch tv or be on their phones rather than reading. Ray Bradbury accurately predicts books will become less important, technology is dumbing us down, and people are moving too fast and not paying as much attention. Ray Bradbury predicts that books are becoming less important, he shows this in the book by having the firemen burning books because they make people sad and think to much. “While the books went up in sparkling whirls and blew away on a wind turned dark with burning.”
Commentary #4. The most important theme of Fahrenheit 451 is restriction of freedom of speech because of the fear to offend another person in the society. There are strict censorship laws in the totalitarian society of Fahrenheit 451. In the novel the job of a fireman is to start a fire and watch the forbidden literature burn, these firemen had never read the books they burn nor were they all allowed to keep one for more than 24 hours.
