One of Chicago's major businesses is Candy and is known as the candy capital of America. Now thats pretty sweet. And the candy business is part of what made chicago what it is today. The Candy business and other businesses built Chicago’s economy. Chicago's candy business has a long history. It dates all the way back to the late 1800’s. From the tootsie pop factory to the Brach’s companies chicago used to be and is still loaded with multiple candy factories and shops. In 1884 the National Confectioners Association was created in chicago, it was formed by sixty nine candy companies. There are other things about the history of Chicago's candy business like the World’s Columbian Expo in Chicago which introduced companies like Juicy fruit. But there are still a few popular ones still here today. One of these factories is the Hershey factory. But sadly it is set to close in the near future. Another popular Candy factory that is still open in chicago is the tootsie roll factory. And there are also plenty of smaller companies including Fuzziwigs candy store and the Blommer Chocolate company. Another big industry that made Chicago a popular city is food processing. It has a big impact because it opened lots of jobs which attracts people to the city. With more than thirty functioning food processing companies today, it really is an important industry. There were and still are many popular food companies that produce food in Chicago. From Cracker Jack to Oscar Meyer. And in between are small companies that were created by young entrepreneurs with a dream.
