What happened to Makayla was unfortunate but most of all it was shocking. When hearing about gun violence, teenagers are usually the most common victims. In this situation, for the victim to be eight and the killer to be eleven, it opened the eyes of a lot of people. This day in society kids are exposed to more television, violent video games, and violent environments more than ever before. If the little boy killed a little girl over a puppy, it makes you wonder what factors are playing an even bigger part in the home. Violent behavior is very complex and is often caused by many factors. Experimental research proves that violent media and violent video games can increase aggressive thoughts, physiological arousal, aggressive behavior, and angry feelings. Violent video games also decrease the feeling of empathy. Being that the boy was younger, in my opinion I believe that his exposure to violent media played a very big part in his violent behavior. Around his age, you start to become easily influenced from people or things around you. If the little boy has repeated exposure to violent shows and games, overtime they have a cumulative effect on his

Moore also tells the story of the little girl shot by one of her classmates and how his home life could have contributed to the shooting. The incident occurred in Buell Elementary School, in Flint, Michigan, where 6 year old Dedrick Owens shot and killed his classmate Kayla Rolland. The boy comes from an unstable household since his mother his never home because she works 2 jobs provided by the welfare-to-work program. At the time, the boy stayed at his uncle’s house since his mother was working two jobs and could not attend to the children, and she was also being evicted from her house. The boys uncle had a history of offense and it was in his house the boy found the gun.
Not long after the Luby 's mass shooting I read and article that contained two profound statements that Dr. Suzanna Hupp made about being there during that horrific incident and loosing both her parent. She said she left her gun in the car that day because it made her parents nervous and because of the Texas restrictive gun laws at the time. Some how during the ensuing chaos one parent got separated from her and the other parent and she had to sit there helplessly and watch as that parent was killed in cold blood knowing her gun was so close but so far away. The thing that will stick with me for the rest of my life and the thing I always hear in the back of my mind about where my gun will be . . . that several times during those ungodly minutes
“In fewer than 11 minutes, twenty first-grade pupils and six adults had lost their lives” (Sanchez 1). On December 14, 2012 the lives of families across the nation changed forever. Adam Lanza, a twenty year old man suffering with multiple mental illnesses, went on a shooting rampage at the Sandy Hook Elementary School after murdering his mother just minutes before. He had no motive for his unbelievable actions, but took the lives of children who had so many more years to live and memories to make. The Sandy Hook shooting was the second most deadly shooting in the United States, as it scarred innocent people, and still has families across the nation wondering why this horrific event happened.
The normal 12 year old has never held a war gun let alone has shot one. The corporal who handed the children AK’s, forced them to become mature and act like adults by doing grown up actions. The weapon symbolizes his innocent day of childhood were over. He would now be expected to be a killer.. Growing up is inevitable, but the death of family and friends cuts deeper wounds than letting go your younger
As is the case with little Aiyana Stanley-Jones who was seven years old when she was sleeping on her couch and subsequently shot by Detroit police during a raid; as if a sleeping second grader could present any sort of danger to a grown man. The frenzied raid was warranted on the suspicion that a murderer was residing in the home. This is no problem, no one should be upset that the police are attempting to actually do their job and apprehend a possible killer. However, they didn’t just seize the man they later convicted with first degree murder, they themselves murdered a child. The events of what occurred were fuzzy at best, perhaps this was an accident, perhaps not.
The author tells why killings by children that are younger and younger have never been higher. The author’s believe that this tragic trend have increased because of several different reasons. They think it is because of the growth of the single parent families, a rise in child abuse, the arrival of crack cocaine, the loss of jobs and the mass number of weapons that are on the streets. The author suggests that child killers are equated with children of a war torn countries such as post-traumatic stress, emotional numbness, rage, anxiety, and depression. He also provides information that suggests that a number of studies in the past few years have proven that very few children that commit murders are psychotic.
This child did not deserve to die. Not only this child but many children are dying every year from accidents with firearms. Slate, an online news site claims that in
Another angry kid shoots up a school full of kids, or was the cause of this tragedy darker than we could have imagined? “Lanza went to Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012 armed with an AR-15 rifle and other firearms. He killed 20 children and six educators” (Scinto). The nation was shook by the news of the shootings. Adam Lanza took twenty-six lives days before Christmas.
Picture this: It is July 17, 1988; it seems like a regular summer day and instead of going to bed you decide to stay up to until your daughter comes back from her boyfriend’s house. She seemed a little later than usual and didn’t come home at 11:30 like she was supposed to. A little after 12:30 you get a call from the police, your teenage daughter has been shot and killed along with three others on Old Salisbury Road. The teenager was Crystal Cantrell and that story was her mother’s, Linda Cantrell. Thanks to the shooter, Michael Hayes, Crystal will never have children, marry, or even go to college.
Media violence has become a controversial topic in the world today. Owing to the rising technology, children are beginning to show increasing violent behaviors. The debates on the effects of media ranging from screen media, video games, and books have a long history. Due to this, there is a speculation over what is the leading cause of the increasing violence in children. Some people argue that there is a relationship between media violence and real-life violence.
Firstly, playing violent video games causes psychological aggression, which in turn might make a child
Some researches admit that violent games may cause adolescents to become tremendous. Studies showed that video games increase psychological awakening, it could also increase aggressive behavior, emotions and thoughts and finally let teenagers lose the sense of helping others. All these effects will be carried by aggressive young people. It’s true that video games are violent, but aggressive adolescents are more likely to be more attracted to it. Some games reward players for doing violent actions, so this will affect them negatively, letting them think that violence is normal.
That is true. You will be more aggressive and violent than before after you play the violent video game, but, you won’t notice that. Although it is not true for everyone, ultimately, my point is the violent video game can contribute to youth violence. How could it be possible to let teenage crime by playing the violent video game? Are they just playing the violent
