I chose Central Lakes College for many reasons. First, Central Lakes College is affordable compared to other universities. Central Lakes College costs about $8000 dollars annually, compared to other universities (major and private) which can range from $23,000-$50,000. By attending Central Lakes College, I can save thousands of dollars, without going into debt. Second, Central Lakes college is located in a convenient place, I live only fifteen minutes away from the college. This makes for an easy commute there and gas money is less expensive compared to if I had to drive an hour or two down to the cities to The University of Minnesota or the College of St. Scholastica.

After listening to the wisdom of Husky, one can recognize that he offers valuable insights, but also provides some inaccurate information regarding academic affairs in community college. Beginning with the valuable information, he is correct when he states that the cost of community college, in both tuition and price-per-credit, is significantly lower than a four-year institution. He is also partly correct about the curriculum. For students enrolled with the intention of transferring to a four-year institution, general education courses in the liberal arts are offered that will transfer to their desired school. He explains that these liberal arts courses are generally smaller than those offered at larger schools, and provide for more interaction with the instructor – both claims are true.

Mr. Colaio observed a counseling session conducted by myself and a bright 10th grade student who has the potential to pass, but unfortunately she is failing. I will briefly discuss the background of the student I met with. This student also has an IEP, and is dealing with serious emotional disturbance.
Motlow State Community College does not offer a cafeteria for students at the Smyrna Center. Constructing a cafeteria at Motlow State Community College would be beneficial for everyone, including the staff and students. A cafeteria would offer convenience for students and staff, increase the attendance rate, and allow students to engage in social interactions with one another. Not only is cafeteria favorable for the Motlow State community, but it would multiply the revenue for the school. Predominantly, constructing a cafeteria will improve the Smyrna campus as a whole.

I am very interested in the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire after my experience touring the campus on October 21st. One of the most important aspects of college life, to me, is having an identity on campus. At many larger schools, I have felt lost, and as if I were to attend, I would just be another name in the crowd. However, at Eau Claire, I felt the almost polar opposite. I saw the unique personalities of the students around me, and I felt a very welcoming sense to the whole campus.
