The first dream Anaya presented is the dream of Antonio’s birth. The dream that is the beginning of the internal conflict that is aimed to Antonio. In his dream an argument breaks out on the concern of which life style will Antonio follow. The Luna’s crave for Antonio to become a priest while the Marez‘s would love for him to become a Vaquero. Just then, Ultima claims only she will know Antonio’s destiny and the dream terminates. The morning of his first day of school, Maria reminds him that he is a Luna and his father adds that he is also a Marez. With everything going on, Antonio is fortunate enough to have Ultima. Have you ever been frustrated with your parents or parent? In the stories, Confetti Girl and Tortilla Sun, the both narrators have a hard time making peace with their parent. In both stories, the problems are creating tension between their family, and it’s because of the difference in points of views. Such as the daughter in Confetti Girl, she is frustrated on how the dad is not paying attention to her wants and needs. Also, how she prefers on talking about something meaningful to her than about books.

Chapter three of Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo begins with Antonio realizing that his innocence is fleeting, especially after having experienced the death of a man the night before. It’s Sunday which means the family will attend mass, but before heading out Antonio’s parents have a brief dispute about their son growing up. Antonio’s mother believes that it’s a sin “for a boy to grow into a man” because they will lose the pureness that was bestowed onto them from birth. Yet, Antonio’s father and Ultima disagree with that notion. That Sunday Antonio knew that town would be mourning the two deaths of Chavez’s brother and Lupito, along with the other sons and husbands that were directly caused by the war.
What is a legend? Is it a book full of magic and unbelievable imagination that exceeds people’s expectations? Is it a story with many great and impressive heroes that so many dream to become? Or is it a story with a thoughtful meaning? By definition, a legend is just a traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but unauthenticated.
2. As he tells the story, how does Antonio make sense of the conflicts he encounters? Does he seem to prefer the world and viewpoint of his mother and her brothers, his father and the vaqueros, Ultima, or some other influence?
