As a senior enlisted member we must never miss an opportunity to learn a new skill set that will help us lead, develop and inspire our junior members. At the Chief Petty Officers Academy(CPOA) you are given a chance to accomplish this task. Some of the lessons that I have learned the most about or built on existing knowledge included the wellness lessons the leadership challenge LPI 360 and the class staff ride. The wellness lesson impacted my life and gave me new options to recover from injuries. I have always been a fit individual but I suffered four major injuries last year at different times. Prior to attending CPOA I was medically cleared to work out again and the academy was a perfect platform to start fresh. While I am not a fan of group physical training (PT), it did expose me to programs I have never tried and might continue when I arrive back at home station. The first fitness class was great in helping understand all the different numbers in your blood results. The second wellness class discussing eating and the use of the “My fitness pal application” was interesting. I am not familiar with smart phone technology and never knew applications could record your meal intakes. I believe this was an extremely valuable lesson for everybody in the class. The leadership challenge LPI 360 survey really opened my eyes. As …show more content…
The staff ride to the Marin Headlands was an amazing way to tie America’s history to our current senior enlisted leadership. Assigning each group a different site at the park made it a more realistic experience. Anybody can go to a historic site and read a few sign post, but the research each group put into the assignment made in a more memorable experience. Not only was it a learning experience but also a team building exercise. I believe the time researching the material and being together at the site brought our group closer as a team than any other project in the
My appointment to General McLane’s LINK Crew is an amazing opportunity to gain leadership training and utilize it within my local community. LINK Crew is a faculty-appointed organization that utilizes forty driven juniors and seniors to help transfer students and incoming freshman become orientated to the high school culture and rules. Leaders act as student mentors for new kids by helping them find their classes, teaching them small life-lessons, and introducing them to faculty, teachers, and other new students. Each year, we go through over fifteen hours of training regarding leadership, public speaking, and communication skills in order to present to new students several times a year. We also act as leaders within sports, academic, extracurricular,
The results were,“‘They are more engaged in cell phones than being in the present moment,’ ‘I have less problems losing students to their phones, texts, whatever,’ she said”(Elise). Without technology students are able to stay focused in school and have better outlooks on life. Learning about the world and important subjects like math and science will lead to preferable opportunities in life. When learning about the feed, students are controlled and their lives are controlled by corporations. The corporation uses the past to make the new School™ look so much better.
This is my 2022-2023 cadet essay for JROTC. Some things in JROTC can be improved, and I will be covering the ideas and initiatives I will take. JROTC is a wonderful and exciting program, but no program can be perfect and that’s ok! But just like any program, we can work to ensure that our cadets have a safe and comfortable time. Let’s start with my first idea.
With this in mind, we propose organizing a group of veterans who have served in the last five years
One of the main extracurricular activity that is very helpful to me is NJROTC. It teaches cadets about the real world and the military world. The Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC), is put in place to teach you more about the military, and also to teach students to become great leaders. Everyone in this program learn to be well disciplined. Without discipline there would be total chaos.
The Chief Petty Officer Academy (CPOA) course introduced me to numerous tools and effective managerial, and leadership skills. I will apply tools and concepts that acquired from Academy to nurture an effective work environment at the Centralized Service Desk (CSD). Academy created a positive impression on me and I have seen a tremendous growth in my leadership style. I should be able to achieve an effective work environment by utilizing my experience from Academy such as stress management, Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and a bigger picture of being Chief in the Coast Guard. In the stress management class we performed a stress map.
Since I was ten years old, I have been a member of the Young Marines, a program dedicated to the enrichment of youth. Aside from my family and school, this organization has had an incredible impact on my life, not only providing me with many unique and amazing experiences, but by shaping the foundation of my character by instilling in me the three core principles of the Young Marines: Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork and also by emphasizing the importance of community service. I have had many amazing and unique experiences as a Young Marine which included the challenges of promotion to become the senior ranking officer, learning many new skills such as CPR, teaching Drug Demand Reduction, leading and mentoring the members of the Unit, going on encampments and traveling. In my sophomore year, my Unit Commander, a Korean War veteran, selected me to travel with him to Seoul. Every few years he chooses a Young Marine to take to South Korea based on merit.
These courses have enabled me to significantly improve my change management skills to be a more effective leader and foster organizational planning, program development and execution. Further, this training coupled with my life experience enables me to research, create and deliver evidence based training, education and follow up with comprehensive assessments of learning. My personal and professional values are honor, integrity, passion and accountability and I incorporate them into every aspect of my
he NCO 2020 strategy is focused on creating a system that will provide the NCOs with access to develop and broadening the experiences needed in both garrison and within operational environment. In addition, leaders will individually help to commit to long-term careers, which will be essentially focused on the development of educational, professional and with the fulfillment of having a ready force for war at all times. Essentially the strategy of the NCO 2020 is to have leaders at all levels understanding that the development of Soldiers must be constant and continuous throughout their career. The best way to expand and provide better NCO development is by focusing on proficiency in each Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) and leadership
I enjoy conducting interesting physical training events that push my soldier’s thoughts of what they can do. I always thought that new and unique physical training events only helped with getting soldiers to enjoy coming into physical training every morning; however, now I see that this was just the start of how I was building cohesive teams. According to ADRP 6-0, “Trust is gained or lost through everyday actions more than grand or occasional gestures.” I am already thinking of new and interesting things to do with my soldiers after I leave the United States Army
CSM recently held a Student Veteran Leadership Conference, and the objective of the conference was to do just that. By demonstrating to students, staff, and CSM community partners
I think that two of the most important benefits of being an APTA member as a student are the student study resources and the ‘getting involved’ information. I think that all the options in the study resources tab would be an invaluable tool to use in researching different topics and scenarios for future classes and clinical rounds. It is nice to know that I can go to a reliable source to search for answers on topics I need more clarification on. The other neat benefit is the special student interest groups in the ‘getting involved’ tab; this sounds like a great way for students to further themselves as future physical therapists. I think it would be quite profitable to be a part of one; it sounds like a great way to communicate and work with other students from Texas in a smaller, more focused setting.
Physical Therapy Physical Therapists provide rehabilitation for injuries and help maintain stability. “Some history of Physical Therapist formed their first professional association in 1921 called the American Women’s physical therapeutic association. In the late 1940s, the association had changed its name to the American Physical Therapy Association. Physical Therapy was developed when the association’s membership swelled to 8,000 and the number of physical therapy education programs across the US increased from 16 to 39”(“APTA History”). Although many people may think being a physical therapist is hard because of the qualifications needed, the daily work, salary, and needs of the service have drawn my attention to the field.
What I find to be the most enjoyable aspect of physical therapy is finals week. When everybody is scrambling to attain as much knowledge as possible. Our problem base learning program enables us to rely on one another when unable to grasp a certain. I enjoy seeing the different break out tools and the variation of methodologies being used to grasp certain concepts.
Both students and teachers can now find facts within seconds. This can be very useful when explaining and debating topics.” As we all know, kids in this day in age have so much power in the palm of their hands they can get any piece of information they need in seconds and they should be able to use that power. Another reason kids should be able to use their smartphones in class is that teachers now are able to create assignments which kids can complete on their phones.
