My group’s assigned task was; Explore how people view issues related to the Civil War from different perspectives, focusing on the roles of various groups and individuals from Virginia that influenced the outcome We were also given a guiding question to drive our work forward; When was the impact of slavery on Virginia as well as the nation? To answer our question we used a book called Our Virginia past and present, and a website called Civil War Trust.org. We conducted lots of research and created two visalus, a timeline that includes major events from before, during, and after the civil war and a map showing the Union, border, and Confederate states. After we decided that we had enough research we ultimately decided on a claim. Our claim was: The north and south states had different ideas on what freedoms American citizens should have and later established …show more content…
Some evidence that proves this is that the southern states started to secede from the nation an formed the confederacy. Te president, Abraham Lincoln, did not approve of the southern states actions and attempted to conserve what was left of the nation. The remaining states called themselves the union and a war started between the two groups of states. Despite the raging war the north sometimes still bought crops from the south because the north was much more industrialized than the south. The south ws using slave labor to mass produce cash crops like cotton and food crops like wheat and crn.In the north people had less and less use for slaves and realized just how terrible it is. Despite many people still owning slaves in the north, the union now fought against slavery and allowed runaway southern slaves to join the union army for freedom. The issues of war even
Slavery, political tension, disagreements between the north and south and the split opinions about Abraham Lincoln were components that contributed to the start of the American Civil War. These factors were the catalyst in the beginning of the Civil War. Slavery was the most influential factor that contributed to the beginning of the Civil War. The North’s support to abolish slavery in all American states was viewed as a violation of constitutional rights by the South, thus creating an extreme hatred between the two sides, and ultimately beginning the Civil War. The south, or “the great cotton empire”, was dependant on slavery to keep the large cotton plantations in business.
Before the Civil War their were many arguments that went back and forth between the North and South. The main argument though was that the North considered slavery unbiblical, unlawful, an horrible. The South on the other hand though considered their right, because the Constitution stated that a man had a right to his own property and the slaves were their property. The South also attacked the North with the claim that their slaves were better off on the plantations than the workers in the Northerners’ factories where they were harshly treated. Both sides felt like their opinion was better than the others and this was how the Civil War
Because the Northers were mainly food-farmers and manufacturers, they didn’t have the need for slaves that the south did. The South, which
This did not change overnight, and people who were loyal to the Union still kept their slaves. The Emancipation Proclamation had a strong impact on the war and caused the government to say that slavery was wrong. In the North, some people disagreed with the document, but mainly everyone supported it. This ruined the economy in the South, causing some people in the army to flee the war and go back home to support their
Because, the North diverse economy based on industry and agriculture. But the South economy based on agriculture. Also the North had many factory, but the South had many farm, so they need slaves. Secondly, they were proud of theirselves, so it makes their relationship worse. Finally many slaves from the South trying to run over to
The North was industrial with a better and more reliable economy than the South. All the South had was cotton which was massed produced. Many areas that were used for cotton production also contained dense slave populations. (Document 1). Since both sections had a very diverse means of making income, they began to separate more as time passed.
The Southern states were still strongly in support of slavery in the 1860s, while the North was strongly against it. The North was almost completely free states, and had new states entering as free, while the South was still fighting to keep slavery. The fight between the North and the South continued to progress, until the South felt that they no other option, so they decided to secede. They seceded one by one, each state persuading another. There were many issues, complaints, and fears that eventually led drastic decision of the South to secede.. .
It was just before the Civil War when everything seemed to be falling apart in the young country. The North is against slavery which led to the Missouri Compromise. The North was also industry based and relied on manufactured goods. Since the North was more cultured they had artists, merchants and manufacturers. The South was pro slavery because they were agriculturally based and needed someone to work the fields.
In the North, the abolishment of slavery was not an immediate change, but over time the North found methods to replace slavery in a manner that would advance the state’s economic growth. As time went on, the North and South grew further apart economically and culturally. The South had so many slaves residing within its borders that slaves grew to make up one-third of the South’s population by 1860. Due to their increasing population, slaves greatly influenced the culture and religious beliefs in the South. People living in the North, had a slightly higher rate of going to school and getting a good education.
The process of black slavery taking route in colonial Virginia was slow. Black slavery mostly became dominant in the 1680s. Slaves became the main labor system on plantations. The amount of white indentured servants declined so the demand for black slaves became necessary in the mid-1660s. The number of white indentured servants that Virginia had up until the mid 1660s, was enough to meet white peoples labor needs.
Everyone knows what a slave is, its a person who is being held against their will and forced to do a task without payment or able to exercise their freedom. Back then in a America, before equal rights. Before the civil war, that at least gave the slaves the freedom to do as they please under the law. As we know from American history. Almost everyone, in the south and some supporters in the north believed that slavery was okay.
The Civil War was necessary to resolve the escalating tensions between Northerners and Southerners regarding slavery. To Southerners, slavery was essential to their agricultural economy and way of life. The North was industrialized and did not need slavery to support their economy. Since the regions had different views on slavery, compromises and fighting occurred to try to solve the issues which slavery brought up. Tensions over slavery began to grow when the country started expanding West because the North and the South wanted their personal beliefs to be spread West.
While black people in the north still faced discrimination as was stated earlier, they did have many advantages over those in the south. One of these was that they were not enslaved. It was illegal for someone to own slaves in half of the United States by 1850. The debate over slavery was a huge issue economically, socially and politically. This political tension between the north and south would eventually lead to the American civil war.
Even Though there have been many special days, the end of slavery is one of the best. Slaves worked and yield cotton. Slavery was a tremendous concept in America, and this concept was one of issues in the Civil War. Slavery is a special day for Americans and African Americans, because the Emancipation Proclamation was signed for the freedom of Slaves.
In the 1800s, the North and South split over civil rights, specifically slavery. In the North, African Americans had a harbor and protection from servitude. The South, however, put many African Americans to work in the form of slavery, which often resulted in physical and mental harm. Latitudinally speaking, the North is at a greater height than the South as it is closer to the North Pole. At the lower latitude, the South caused the Civil War, proving a loss of control over their situation.
