As seen in Image two, placing the homes on stilts would limit flooding damage and the spread of disease through stagnant water. Because the homes are plastic and non porous, it would make them easier to sanitize with soap and water or bleach. One home can be easily built by four people who have no previous knowledge in construction in only 5 days. An entire shelter for 14 families can be assembled by 15 people in ten days. These plastic structures can be utilized as homes, schools, clinics, etc.

And yet thousands of people are still dying by dehydration and illness from contaminated water. Organizations like The Red Cross, and Doctors Without borders do bring clean water with them but what are the people going to do when they leave? Another sources of clean water is through purifying contaminated wells and building wells. A Haiti outreach organization allows people to Adopt a well. According to the organization “An individual or group sponsors a specific community managed well in rural Haiti, pledging to raise the $15,000 needed to fully fund a specific Haitian community’s program to gain sustainable access to clean water and sanitation” (Dine, 2016) Out of the multitude of private donors, government donors, and volunteer laborers, the probability of having a clean well in every community shouldn 't be an impossible feat. An organization called Food for the Poor provides food and feeding centers, clean water and sanitation, housing and education to poorest of the poor. With the constant flooding there are plenty of ways to collect and decontaminate water. In my short period of time as a camper in the mountains, I learned how to make a filter to remove dirt and possible chemicals using a water bottle. Place cloth at the bottom, near the mouth of the bottle, then fill it will pebbles, and sand, cloth, charcoal, cloth, sand and pebbles. The sand and pebbles will filter …show more content…
All of the proposed education comes from the volunteers that would go to Haiti. Representatives from Conceptos Plasticos could teach the villagers how to assemble and rebuild the plastic houses should there be any damage. The Doctors would teach more doctors and nurses while they help heal and teach the importance of sanitation and how to achieve it. Food for the Poor and Adopt a Well would teach the villages the healthiest ways to gain access to clean water and grow healthy fruits and vegetables. The volunteers from all over the world could not only help people rebuild their homes, build wells, feed the sick and hungry, but also teach them how to continue to thrive after volunteers have

In Africa, tens of thousands of families have to cook with and drink the same infested waters they use to bathe, water their livestock and wash their laundry.” On a recent trip there, he brought more than $200,000 of medical supplies and over $1 million dollars’ worth of food and construction equipment to bore holes of fresh water in the barren districts of eastern Africa. It is a corner of the world that, to the best of its ability, dignifies every person who enters, no matter whether they are the giver or receiver – and often achieves this through blurring these roles. I think the energy of love and acceptance created here ripples out and affects the world in ways that are known only by God” (Megan Mcdonald). Volunteering creates a satisfaction of joy and happiness, not only to the volunteer, but to the guest as
In Charles Fishman’s this chapter of the book, “The Big Thirst,” he says that on average five thousand kids die a day because of the lack of clean water. This means that over five hundred kids in an elementary school in ten elementary schools are dying each day. In Orma, Tennessee the town ran out of water and had to have volunteer fire fighters drive to a nearby city every couple days ten times just so that the town could have water for three hours each day. The forty families that lived in the town ran out of water and was only allowed water for three hours each day. As Fishman says “water can’t be used up”.
In the future to prevent Haiti from greater damage by natural disasters Haiti should do the following actions: To prevent Causalities in future disasters Haiti should give warning to all residents about the disaster predicted and get to the safest place possible. You could get to a safe place in your city/town were you can prevent serious injuries and deaths. People In Haiti could have a plan run by the community or council and all should know what to do if something horrific occurs, that way the town will be safe and knowledgeable about how to protect themselves. These three proposals could prevent further impact in the future from natural disasters and the citizens of Haiti to be safe and aware at all times.

After the longest dictatorship in history, Haiti still can’t get their government to work right. Waking up on the side of the road, an individual realizes that there is only enough money to buy a sandwich for the entire day, no shelter for the night, and no job for financial support. Not only does Haiti have poor infrastructure in the sense of roads, buildings and more but it effects their water which is potentially deadly. “The country’s 10 million people had drinking water from springs and rivers and wells and a broken-down municipal water system in the capital... But a great deal of the water was loaded with bacteria and parasites...chemicals and other pollutants.” (Joseph B. Treaster). This goes to show how Haiti doesn’t spend money on their own water system leading many vulnerable to diseases.

Stop Taking Clean Water for Granted Can you stop for a moment and think what would happen if we didn’t have water; clean water? It seems impossible, as we use water to drink, cook, clean, grow things, and for everything else in life. Unfortunately, because of the easy access to one of the most plentiful, and most valuable resources in the world, some people take water for granted. In contrast, other poor people live in places where the only easy way to get water is from a dirty irrigation ditch. Or their only source of water is backyard faucet shared by several homes.
