“Coop, you’re up.” Championship game. This isn't the third period or overtime, shootout. Three people from each team get their chance at a breakaway, one on one against the goalie, and I was chosen. I had the tournament on my stick. I put my gloves on, get a couple taps from my teammates, hop the boards, and I’m on the ice. Here I am, standing at center ice with a chance to win a game we weren't even supposed to be playing in. If I score, we win the game, if I don't, we lose the game. My heart is pounding. My vision is tunneled, my body begins to tingle, and the loud cheering of the crowd begins to slowly fade away, to the point where I can only hear myself breathe. I close my eyes. Envision the white mesh cradling the puck as my team clears the bench. My leadership and hard work was going …show more content…
Hard work got me far in my hockey career. When I first started, I was awful. I was the worst player on the team. The only reason I even made it was because no one got cut. Over the years, I set goals to become the best on my team, the best in central Illinois and eventually one of the best in the country. All of those goals became memories. I worked so hard at everything that I became one of the top players in the United States. All the missed school events and parties, to become a good hockey player. I was 9 years old and went to the gym every day with a personal trainer. Hard work is soaked into me. Everything I do in life is compensated by hard work. It will carry on for the rest of my life, when I am working someday, I’ll be the one working over the weekends, late nights and overtime so I can achieve my goals in life. Do you think I was the one chosen to have the fate of a hockey tournament in my hands if i didn't push myself? I am willing to do the things people aren’t. I am willing to give it 100% even when I am dead tired. I strive to be dominant in everything I do. No matter
Then Jeff Blashill (Head Coach), Jeff Hoggan (Captain), and Petr Mrazek (Goaltender) came and we were fonomanal. So back to present time… I dog pilled my friends, Alex and Christian Smith. After a hour of ceremonies, playing on the ice, and press box touring it was time to go back to the
The score is 1-0 rage. The end of first rage 1 opponent 0. The second period starting I didn't see much because I was heading down to the locker rooms to get ready to get on the ice. Getting my gear on to get on the ice.
I will never forget what it was like in the locker room before our biggest games. We would get dressed in the locker room while listening to our pregame playlist, then our coach would come in and give his pregame speech, we would then do our unique “Oh Mama” pregame chant, finally to run onto the ice in a rink packed of dedicated fans anticipating the experience of the Hartland Hockey culture. As special as the pregames were, the postgames were even more special. In my two years on the team, we never lost a game at home, hence a lot of celebrating. After a big win, there was always a distinct electric feeling as we came back in the locker room that I’ve never felt elsewhere.
During the entire match I had no idea what was happening. I didn’t know which side of the scoreboard was mine, so I didn’t know if I was winning or losing. Since we were in a tournament, there were numerous whistles that were going off during my match. During the match, it was very loud, which made it hard to hear my coach. I also didn’t have any idea what period we were in.
There is a defining silence as I hold my breath in anticipation, the buzzer sounds, breaking the silence as the crowd erupts. Sticks, helmets, and gloves scatter the ice as jump on the glass to celebrate with their teammates. They have done it, the Little Falls Flyers are going to the state tournament. This is the scene I witnessed during my brothers junior year of high school; his hockey team won the section and had advanced to the state hockey tournament. Because it is every hockey players dream to make it to the state tournament, I committed this triumph to memory.
I have never had a job with a paycheck, but that hasn’t stopped me from developing my philosophy of work. My experiences at school, home, and most of all, at roller derby have given me a chance to build my philosophy. In my experience, I have learned about my motivations, working through the grind of training, and the satisfaction of a task well-done. I’ve found that the best motivation to work is to turn it into a passion. My passion for roller derby has driven me to become one of the fastest and strongest skaters on my team.
Everybody has a passion for something that they enjoy doing and spend most of their time doing. I enjoy playing soccer and it has become one of my biggest passions ever since I was the age of 5. I enjoy playing it more than any other sport I have ever participated in. The soccer program in Sigourney allows you to play from preschool all the way up to 6th grade.
On February 19, 1998, I was born in New Albany, Mississippi. Three days after I was born, my family moved to Detroit, Michigan, which I think is kind of crazy since you are supposed to stay in the house after you are born. My family means everything and the world to me. I grew up in a typical middle class environment and live with my dad, mom, and 2 sisters in Detroit.
Adversity The team stood sweating in need of a break and water. Our coach only called timeouts when necessary and when he called it, everyone on the team sighed. We all had a much needed break to rest our throbbing legs. The coach drew a play in the huddle for me to score the winning basket and felt extra focused.
I was thinking about the game and was staying focused. I could tell that the whole team wanted to win more than anything. Then the game started. It was a very evenly matched battle between the Rochester Grizzlies and Team Comcast. Seconds before the first period ends, we score, making it 1-0.
Not only did I accomplish my goal of being better than my friends but I also started making my own youtube videos of my snowboarding skills and to this day my channel has over 5k views. I can’t wait to see what this upcoming season has for me and my new goal is to get some type of sponsorship or partnership with a snowboarding company or brand and I have no doubt that I won't be able to achieve
I hear for thirty-five straight minutes straight heavy breathing and I see sweat from both teams since the match is equal. I hear my coach giving us instructions on what to do. As second half starts I can hear the parents cheering for us. I can hear myself panting and could smell the smell of sweat. As see that there is only ten minutes left for the game to finish I can see everyone’s face and see exhausting in them.
Even through my confusion upon the past events, something felt wrong and felt like I lost something forever. That week I was sitting in the doctor’s office waiting for my cat scan evaluations. The look the doctor gave me when walking in told me right away, he didn't how to say it. He told me after my history of concussions and conditions from my recent one, that I had to start thinking of my future. It was either I keep playing hockey and put my life in more harm and in a lot of danger or stop playing and be able to live a more enjoyable life.
Next thing you know I'm on the Grosse Pointe South Varsity field hockey team preparing to be declared as the Division Two State Champions of 2022. It was game day, we walked up to the bus as a team. The sounds of parents ringing cowbells and cheering resonated throughout my
As I got to the rink put my gear on and tape my stick I think about all of the things that I must do in order to win the game. After a sad loss we then
