I had a wonderful freshman year, and was moving along nicely to earn my degree from UF. My sophomore year came around and I began to have some financial hardships. I began working in the hospitality industry, and became overwhelmed with earning money to survive, as well as going to school. I continued on this path for years, and earning a paycheck became more important than earning a grade. I was fortunate to run a business and, then fortunate to open a successful business. I opened, ran, and sold, numerous turn-key restaurants for the next few years. This did not come easily and did not come without issues. I was able to lean on business partners to help guide me in making sound business decisions, that helped me grow. This gave me great experience in life and in the business world. I have been working for major corporations for over the last five years, and have learned a lot with about corporate world verses the privet sector. Through years of hard work, I have been able to put myself in good financial position, and am ready to earn my

One of the proudest moments of my life came in 2012 when I received my Associate of Arts degree and graduated as the class valedictorian. I realize that for some people earning a two year degree may seem like no big deal, but the fact that I did it while incarcerated at San Quentin made it extraordinary for me. Before coming to prison, I had failed at my two previous attempts at junior college without earning a single unit. It would take getting locked up and separated from society, before I 'd start to buckle down. I was 33-years old when I completed my first Coastline College course in Geology and received an A.
My Freshman year was the best year ever! I got to be in marching band, FFA, and I got a tremendous academic placing. I definitely did a great job this year compared to last year. I broke out of my comfort zone and worked my hardest to get a high GPA, and join some different clubs. I met new friends and even passed driver 's ed.

Going to college is probably one of the most important things that I have done in my life so far. Thinking back to everything I have done in the past ten years or so, I can see that taking to leap of faith to join college and further my education was such a huge step for me and I am glad that I did. Before I joined Southern New Hampshire University, I knew I would need some motivation to enroll. I remember a story my father told me about how he had gone to Technical College and became a licensed Master Mechanic and that really motivated me to want to further my education. Also, my brother had talked to me about two months ago and had told me his experience with going to college to earn his English degree and me, being the competitive brother I am, didn’t want him to be the only sibling to earn a degree.
I am competitive; I look for the chance to run the extra mile. My competitive nature has aided in everything I commit myself to. Regardless if I am participating in a sporting event, competing for a solo in a musical production, or preparing for a final, I will indubitably devote my time and efforts to perform as well as possible. I take every opportunity that is presented to me and attempted to better not only myself but my community as well. I am confident that the Honors College at the College of Charleston will enable me to devote my attention to my studies, become actively involved within campus activities and academic assemblies, and offer my time and abilities to charitable events and organizations.
I have overcome difficult challenges in my pursuit of education. I fell behind on my credits, which was the hardest situation to pull myself up from. I caught up and past my colleagues. I am more than ready to further expand my education beyond graduating high school. I am striving to make myself rise above the rest.
Finding motivation to attend college is easy, keeping the motivation to finish is the difficult part. I decided to enroll in college to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Business with a concentration in Finance. I hope that the degree will give me the opportunity to apply for a better position within the organization that I currently work for. A secondary goal of returning to school is to demonstrate to my son that attending college is required for many jobs and that returning to school as an adult has various difficult challenges. I have been working for the past nine years as an Assistant Financial Officer and am highly competent at my job.
Two years after hard working and money saving, I decided to attend the college to pursue post-secondary education. By the end of 2011, I graduated with a Diploma in Business Administration. My efforts to upgrade my education served me well. I was able to start a new career which allowed me to flourish and to buy my first home.
As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. My parents were born and raised in a small town in Mexico where the highest level of education they received was fifth grade. I have worked since I was 14 years old to support my parents with bills, and also saving for college and my own vehicle.
I am pursing a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I am passionate about education and excited to share the joy of learning with students. The perspective of wonder and sense of excitement that children bring into education motivates me daily. Teaching can leave a lasting impression in a child’s life and offers a special opportunity to shape the bright young minds of future generations. While many professions can be impactful, I believe the qualities of the person in the career position to be the most influential.
After extensive research into a multitude of different careers and background reading such as "The South Sea Bubble: An Economic History of its Origins and Consequences”, I have come to the conclusion that a career in business is one that I would like to pursue. It’s been through my observation of the recent global economic downturn and the way the world is still reacting to it, that I have been inspirited to further my knowledge, developing broader, deeper understandings, not just of the theoretical mechanisms and control systems that can be deployed when facing times of economic hardship, but of the ethical, governance and ultimately cultural failings that underpinned its initial downfall. It is from studying these failings in particular that my interest in the financial side of business has been galvanized, lending me to believe that eventually finance and financial accounting is the specific career path that I would like to pursue, once I have developed a more broad-based knowledge of business academia as a whole.
It was important for me to continue my education, especially in this field as it has always been a dream of mine. In my family neither of my parents attended college, through the years I have watched them do jobs they hated so me and my siblings could be successful. As I got older my brother attended college, be prospered and graduated in four years. He now has a steady job and
