Comparing Macbeth And Sam Raimi's A Simple Plan
Shakespeare's “Macbeth” a murderous story filled with greed, unchecked power, temptation, peer influence, and betrayal leads to quite the in depth and brutal story. “Macbeth” shares some of the big ideas in Sam Raimi’s “A Simple Plan.” Murder, how greed/temptation can corrupt, and peer influence.
Murder in these two stories is very apparent as in “Macbeth” Macbeth himself and others he has hired, have killed people to make sure he has the right to the throne as the witches prophecy states that Banquo will beget a line of Scottish kings. To continue his family’s name but also assuring he has a lot of power he had to kill King Duncan as shown in Act 2 Scene 1 lines 33-35 Macbeth says “Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hand?” this was when he was on his way to murder Duncan. Macbeth also had to murder his companion Banquo and others to keep his ambition going.

The murder theme leads into the next subject on how greed/temptation can corrupt.
The greed/temptation in both of these stories has resulted in bad karma for everyone. Macbeth’s had an ambition to become king and his ambition took over his life resulting in horrible decisions with the amount of pointless killings he went through to gain all this power, turning him into a psycho having a hallucination at his feast where he sees Banquo’s ghost and assuming everyone else in the room can see it.
