Introduction Over the course of spring break, I and 25 other students visited Havana, Cuba to study global entrepreneurship. We visited several businesses throughout the week some of which include a farm, a textile factory, an art gallery, many paladares, and a cigar factory. Below are some of the most memorable experiences from the trip as detailed using the D.I.E. approach to debriefing.
Meeting Bryan at the farm and taking him to the FAC that evening
Describe the situation We met Bryan at the farm we visited on Thursday. He is serving his one year required military service at a nearby prison. Several of us conversed with him the day and we got to know him somewhat well before we left. He and I exchanged contact info and we invited

He shared his perspectives on many aspects of the Cuban-American relations and the economic policies of both. When it came time to leave the FAC, we discovered that Bryan intended to wait for a bus for several hours to make the long trip back to where he lived. We promptly offered to pay for his cab at which point his reaction was unforgettable. I will always remember the experience we had with him that night and the insights he provided from a millennial’s perspective.
Three interpretations of what occurred
1. Bryan was very excited to have the opportunity to come to the FAC with us that evening. An interpretation is that he doesn’t often see such hospitality from Americans. We learned the Cuban education system does not hold Americans in high regard. He, having had an experience opposite of what was expected, was likely surprised.
2. Bryan is serving his one year required service with the Cuban Military. He is not paid well (30 CUP/Mo.) and as such likely doesn’t often get the opportunity to go out in the evenings with friends. We paid for his drinks, food, and cab that evening. He thanked us several times throughout the night. Assuming he doesn’t have a second job, that night would have cost him more than a year’s salary had he had paid for it himself. This likely made him feel

He shared how he was a student in Cuba in 1992 and why he made the decision to be the first Canadian to study a full academic year in the country. It was an experiment for him and after being in country he developed what he called a “pathological obsession” with Cuba. I appreciated all he had to say. This was the only time we had the opportunity to hear from someone who was not a native Cuban in country and had the ability to share with us through a multi-faceted lens. The textile factory was a great view into just how successful private business can be in a still largely socialist nation. I was encouraged by how enthusiastic all the directors were about the business and how much they cared about the growth and development. This was very likely not the case prior to it being privatized. Furthermore, I will always remember Javier’s reaction to learning just how much the workers were making. Finally, I wouldn’t trade my Cuba experience for any other abroad program I had the opportunity to travel on. This experience challenged me more than I expected and left me with questions I am eager to seek answers to. I think Cuba has significant potential and if the government changes their policy and privatizes more of the state owned enterprises the country will take off. I am excited to travel back
At that point he goes ahead to rundown first, second, third, and fourth on how they can really alter the problem. He says that it is their obligation to ensure the general population of Cuba and that it is the privilege of the US to mediate and offer assistance. He additionally utilizes a
Elian’s mother fled Cuba and drowned on the way to The United States. The father remained in Cuba, alive and well. Being that the biological father was the only remaining custodial parent, I fully support the decision to send Elian back to Cuba. The case for Elian 's return to Cuba was based on the simple fact that Juan Miguel Gonzalez, who was divorced from Elian 's mother, is the boy 's natural father and entitled to have custody of his child. I’m glad the courts ruled in favor of sending him back.
He shows a strong theme of determination, along with dedication, and perseverance. Through this speech, and his ideals of determination, many rhetorical devices are put to use to drive forth these points. As such, repetition of driving forces lead the listener to know that these points are extremely important. For example, when he states “I wouldn’t stop there,” in various forms, but the same basic idea that he would continue on.
When I Went To Florida I went to Florida after 4th grade in the summer. When we went to Florida, Jaxon my sisters, brother came with us. The night before we left he stayed at my house. When we left the next morning we left at 3:00 A.M. While we were on our way we both had to sit in the very back of the car because my sisters came with us. The ride there was not fun at all.
Richard Blanco said that it is a story that everyone can relate to not just Cubans. It is a story of self-awareness, it is a coming of age novel, and a coming of age story. He also said that if we did get something from the book was that we all become. We keep becoming as we change, as our experience change, we grow as individuals and we make ourselves better. I find this message to be a good one and a positive
I remember the first time we met. I ran out of cigarettes that day and went out to go get some more. When I got to the closes Mini Mart, I saw Jon over the counter and he was on his phone, unaware of the teenagers stealing food and other kinds of thing here and there. I got the cigarettes and went up to him to go pay for them. I tried everything to get his attention but nothing was working, that's when I saw his name tag and called out for him; when he looked
Now, Cuba has the highest literacy rate because of Castro’s funding on education. The leader invested more in the country’s education system rather than their prison facilities. With his comments, he also pointed out the flaws of the United States of America. He zones in on the United States’ abilities to improve correction facilities and compares it to that of Castro’s programs. After learning of Castro’s death, the sportsman clarifies that he did not mean to indicate that he is supporting Castro by large.
We would all play in the water together, there was no such thing as girls play in one side and boys in the other everything was one and the same. After an entire day at the river, just when you thought everyone was worn-out and ready for a long nap, we were all rushing to get home to play baseball. Girls and boys from the neighborhood would gather together, in a deserted field at five in the afternoon to play baseball all night long. This was the life I lived in Cuba full of joy and freedom. I was never
To begin with, simply because the embargo is not affecting the Cuban government, does not mean it is not negatively affecting the Cuban people. It most definitely is. The majority of the Cuban people live with a surprising shortage of basic hygienic resources. If the embargo is lifted, Cubans would be blessed with more opportunities that will benefit them in the long run, as well as possible free enterprise in Cuba (Petrosyan). Cubans do not have as many opportunities to improve their lifestyle as Americans do.
About 5,000 migrants from Cuba were stranded in Central America after trying to reach United States. Fortunately, the President of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo, allowed the immigrants to stay in his country. According to CNN, it has been a month since the Cubans were left stranded in Central America because Nicaragua and Guatemala didn’t allowed them to cross their countries. They were all staying in a refugee camp provided by the government as well as giving them their foods and drinks in San Ramon.
The Cuban Missile Address is delivered October 22nd, 1962 in the Presidential office through a major radio and television address (Podell, Anzovin, and States United 705). Historically, it is worth mentioning that United States had attempted to overthrow Fidel Castro, who was at the time Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, in at least two occasions known as the Bay of Pigs Operation and Operation Mongoose, because of his communist regime and close relationship with the Soviet Union (Pious). Then, after the Bay of Pigs incident, Fidel Castro urged Nikita Khrushchev, the Secretary General of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, to send support and weapons to Cuba, because of the fear of another attack to his person/regime, Nikita did by sending missiles capable of carrying weapons of mass destruction, hence, this major crisis that lasted 14 days ending October 28, 1962 (Deinema and Leydesdorff). In addition, the target audience for this speech is the American people as President starts his speech with the phrase, “Good evening, my fellow citizens” (Kennedy); however, the secondary audience would be the Cuban people, whom he describes as captive people, the Soviet Union leaders, whom he directly addresses and even quotes, and Fidel Castro of course (Kennedy). As noted above, the cultural, socio-political context is important to understand the seriousness of this crisis and
This situation, however, made Castro aware of both sides of the rift. One side had people learning and knowledge that Castro desperately craves and the other side had the beloved Latino culture that belonged to her. She heard the voice and saw the problems of both sides but did not see the way to bring them together due to their

Our views are not calculated or ‘preferred-choices’, we just follow what is expected from us in our social setting and usually we do so without thinking. Our day to day life is a sum up of involuntary actions where the society structures our daily schedule and we heartedly keep following it without extensive thinking. Assumption: While Cuba and Canada share a similar balance of military power and are located alongside the United States, Cuba is regarded as a foe and Canada a close ally by America, evidently not simply on the basis of material distribution of capabilities but as a consequence of ideational structure of friendship and enmity which attach greatly different meaning to Cuban and Canadian military power for the United
