Colonist fight for independence while the British passed many laws against them. The colonist took action because of their belief of the laws. The colonist resisted the British treatment towards them. The British treated colonist very poorly by passing the stamp act,also the coercive/intolerable act. The stamp act was in 1765 when the British put taxes on printed items like wills, newspaper, and playing cards. The colonist purchase had to be stamped in order to prove it was paid.
