Animal Farm is a book written by George Orwell about animals who overthrew the farm owner to become an animal run farm. The farm is managed by pigs with a pig named Napoleon as the leader. Napoleon is a strict and deceiving pig who at first made the animals trust him and think he was a good leader only to turn out just like the humans were before the rebellion. So, what reasons allow Napoleon to stay in power. In Animal Farm by George Orwell, Napoleon stays in charge by outsmarting the animals, threatening them that Jones, the original farm owner, would come back, and finally by scaring the animals with trained attack dogs.

The first example of threatening the animals with Jones would come back is when the pigs ate the apples and drank the milk. “It is for your sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples. Do you know what would happen if we pigs failed in our duty? Jones would come back. Surely there is no one among you who wants to see Jones come back (Doc C).” The animals did not get the privilege of eating the apples or drinking the milk because Napoleon gave himself power by saying if we do not get this then Jones would come back. The pigs would not have failed without apples and milk they just wanted the animals to think that. The second example was stopping debated so Jones would not come back. “If the holding of the debates on Sunday mornings was liable to bring him back, then the debates must stop (Doc C).” Holding debates would not actually make Jones come back but Napoleon made the animals think it would. The debates allowed the animals the discuss their feelings about the farm and how things should be changed or improved. Without these debates the animals had no say in things so only the pigs made decisions on the
