What is an American? An American can be defined as many things, like a person who lives in the American continents, someone who has an American citizenship and etc. However, it seems that in most situations, an American seems to be someone who desires money. There are more nationalities that surely also want it, but even though it is said that America was started for freedoms, it was a whole country essentially built on it. With the colonialism of America and the immigration solely for economic purposes as well as the start of a slave trade, it can be seen that America was built more on a desire for money rather than the desire for freedom. Christopher Columbus’ and many other settlers colonized the country essentially to make money for themselves and Spain. In The Letters from Columbus and De las Casas this can be seen. In the letter from De las Casas, he says “ The Spaniards have brought to the island of Hispaniola and the island of San Juan more than two million souls taken captive, and have sent them to do hard labor in the mines..” The Spanish men took these millions of men to work in the mines. By working in the mines, the American Indians were earning income for the men who had captured them. These Spaniards were amongst one of the first groups who came to America, and …show more content…
This started with the first settlers who came to the Americas, who captured American Indians to work hard labours, so they could make more money themselves. The desire was continued throughout the years with other settlers when their ship’s crew members immigrated solely for the purpose of earning money. Almost 300 years after all of that, American continued to earn money by selling off other people. Today, people will do many different things to get some sort of income. It is not hard to see that Americans do indeed desire money, and this desire seems to overrule the desire for the freedoms this country was supposed to be started
On the other hand, Bartoleme de Las Casas tells his own experiences with those native Indians. Las Casas gives many distinct details about native Indians: their kindness and sincerity, their intelligence but never being arrogant, them being poor but very clean. Las Casas even praises the native inhabitants saying that, “The goodness of the Indians is undeniable and that if this gifted people could be brought to know the one true God they would be the most fortunate people in the world."(Las Casas pg 2) Las Casas descriptions of Native Americans confirms Columbus account in several ways.
The policies ratified in the 1760s by Spanish misses the point to understand the need of the kinbased world. The language used for the treaty making by the European was attractive to the Caddo. The officials stated the ties and united Frenchmen and Spanish. In Major Problems in the History of North America Borderlands, Meizieres tells us how he pointed at the Spanish flag and told the Wichita leaders that the Frenchmen had become adopted as Spaniards. Meizieres highlighted that the king had a lot of power, the king wanted them to become brothers of all other Spanish people.

Bartolome de Las Casas was born in 1848 in Spain. Las Casas was a Spanish historian and dominican missionary who objected the Spanish treatment of the Natives. He opposed to several things the Spanish had against the Natives.
As of the year 2016, there are an estimated 324,118,787 people living in America. 324,118,787 people consider themselves to be Americans and 324,118,787 people have decided that America really is worthy enough to be called home. These people, whether they were born within the country or emigrated from another country, comingle in this melting pot of a nation, sharing grocery stores and hospitals and neighborhoods and all the ideologies that make up American society, and each of these people have their own lives and opinions and personal beliefs. All of these people, all (roughly) 324,118,787 of them, fall under the definition of an American – a person who lives in America, because there is simply no other way to define what an American is when
The actual definition of American is relating to, or characteristic of the United States or its inhabitants. Being proud of who you are and the place you live. Americans have defined themselves not by their racial, religious, and ethnic identity but by their common values and belief in individual freedom. An American says the Pledge of Allegiance and understands that voting is important to Democracy, individually Americans value freedom and are proud citizens, and the freedom of human right.
CASA works closely with Henrico County juvenile judges who refer cases, clerks of the court who assist with files and guardians ad litem representing the legal interests of children. Judges support the best interests of the child by assisting with training new advocates, assigning CASAs, and using the investigative reports to make more knowledgeable decisions for the child and family. Henrico CASA has received many accolades from the judges, including current chief judge, the Honorable Rondelle Herman, who says "CASA fills in a lot of blanks so the judges can see things more clearly." CASAs work with Social Services (DSS) caseworkers to ensure information is exchanged to create the best safety plan and service provision for child victims.

The question, “What is an American?”, can be defined differently by different people. What makes up an American can be looked at in different ways. However, an American in my opinion comes from textual evidence, defined through many different readings, such as the “Letters from Columbus”, the story of “Olaudah Equiano”, and from “Of Plymouth Plantation”. As it is defined, Americans come from slavery, but at the same time, they also come from freedom. With points from Equiano and Columbus, and also William Bradford, a Puritan, as well as with the constant changes between exploitative colonialism, violence, and the strive for freedom, America is based around both forms of Slavery and the determination for Freedom.
What is America all about? What is America defined as? America is more than just its geographical boundaries. To everyone in the world, America stands for something. People believe in America.
We all go through life in varying manners, some choose to challenge the everyday laws, others cling to the authority hoping not to get noticed, we have different jobs, go to different schools, live in different neighborhoods, some of us have hundreds of family members, and some have none, theres no telling the situation. So the question in general is hard to answer because every American has a different view of living in america. Some people see it as shameful to live in such a cruel country, some are proud to be a part of something that is constantly evolving, there are endless feelings towards America and all are found in the people of this country. What does it mean to be an American? It is a very difficult question to answer and it seems impossible to get the right answer, but is there a right answer?

On October 12, 1492, an Italian merchant by the name of Christopher Columbus landed on an island in the New World. With him he brought three ships and a small crew of Spaniards. After exploring other islands, Columbus came one that he called Hispaniola; here, they found seemingly primitive and naϊve natives that they immediately began to take advantage of. However, little did they know that this first meeting would bring exploration of South and Central America that would wreak havok among the Natives. Throughout the period of European Expansion, Natives were ripped from their home and forced to work day in and day out.

The end of the fifteenth century is attributed as the time period in which Christopher Colombus “discovered” the Americas. Although he was allegedly the first European to have reached these unknown lands at the time, many sought to reach the new world, for a variety of reasons. Most of those people could be divided in two: the settlers and the conquerors. In North America, there were more of the former, people looking for a new home where they could rebuild their families and lives. In Meso-America, however, the goal was to exploit the lands in order to produce and extract new goods which they could trade.
