In the short story “The Lady or the Tiger” one of the themes was no matter what decision you make you could have always picked a different one. This shows me that you should think long and hard before you make your decision. When the princess has to decide if she will let her lover die or get married to another it makes me think about the decisions that I have to make. Decisions when it comes to school, friends, and hockey. Firstly when I think about the theme of the story and when the princess has to decide what she wants to do with her lover it makes me think about how I had to make that same decision when it comes to school. When she had to make the decision she had to think long and hard about what she was going to do. She slept on it for many nights. Then she came to her conclusion. That's what I had to do when I was deciding if I would come to Assabet or not. I did not get in before the school year started so I had already started my classes at Shrewsbury. When I knew it was getting close to my position on the wait list I had to think long and hard about what I was going to do. If I was …show more content…
Lastly, when I think about this theme it makes me think about hockey. When I first started hockey people would look at me weirdly. They would ask if I'm in the right place. They didn't expect to see a girl. When I tell people that I play they ask really and give me looks. This happens especially when I am playing co-ed with checking. People won't check me and are like “I can't hit a girl”. They make me want to quit hockey and just find something more “girly”. It makes me think about why I picked to play this sport in the first place. I am happy with this sport. Yes, people may give me dirty looks and question if I'm in the right place. The theme and short story helped me say yes I made the right decision I love playing and I don't care what other people think about
"It's not just the desire to play with better players, it's also the desire to play 'real' hockey, to feel what it's like to throw a hip check and have a guy cartwheel over you," said Peter Hoag, who coached in the George Bell Hockey Association. "As an adolescent male, you want to do that. You are not hitting to hurt someone, but you want to do it. It's the same reason you play rugby or football." In examples of leagues, Windsor Minor Hockey Association is fighting relentlessly to keep bodychecking within their rules.
From the moment we wake up in the morning till we go back to sleep, decision-making is an indispensable part of our life. Some choices may seem insignificant, like what to wear or what to eat for breakfast, while others may have significant impacts on our lives and even others, like choosing a life partner, a place to live, or the way we interact with others. Although choices can be empowering, allowing us to take control of our lives and shape our future, however, if the wrong choice was made, it could have negative consequences. Sometimes people would choose to obey others and avoid making choices themselves when they are scared and cowardly. However, the decision of not making a choice is a choice itself, indeed, it could even be the worst
Choices and consequences are a subject that looks shallow from a certain angle, but if you view it from above, you’ll see the depth and the skewed perception and vision of the object. Responsibilities and consequences derived from choice and agency can vary wildly, and as a result, the relationship between the two sides can be directly connected, or extremely muddled. The justification for this statement lies in many places, daily life, the two passages, “The Lady, or the Tiger” and “Gladiators,” and even in subconscious choices. ”The Lady, or the Tiger,” a fictitious passage, has a realistic representation of choice and consequence, although it appears simple, inane, and obvious, it has an underlying meaning of choice and displays myriad quantities of control over it. This literary text shows the illusion of choice in its “poetic justice” of random chance.
No matter how ordinary a human being could be, no one has lived their entire life in someone’s shoe. Everyone stumbles upon different decisions in life, causing different but unique life experiences. However, one’s life can only be changed with one’s decision. Life is about making decisions, whether it’s right or wrong, it all comes from the decision maker.
The hockey community is a family and everyone is not only committed to pursuing their own goals and dreams, but also committed to supporting yours as well. This sense of camaraderie is what drives happiness
At my elementary school, there was a big field right next to the playground where my male peers would play football. I always wanted to join their game and try to play, so they put me on a team to be nice to be nice but they never hurled the ball to me. This was because I am a girl and they believed girls couldn’t correctly play football, little did they know this made me feel as invisible as a ghost. This is a common feeling for a lot of innocuous kids because they don’t fit in.
Life is full of tough decisions. Every day we have to make decisions, for the better or for the worst. Every decision we make affects us, even if we don’t know it. Those decisions can make us explode with thousands of emotions; happy, sadness, scared, freedom. There are many great books that express the toughness of making decisions.
During my short life, I have not had many life altering experiences; however, one thing that has changed me for the better is playing hockey. Since I started playing hockey in eighth grade it has been something I have become passionate about for various reasons. One reason is my love for the game in general, and more specifically for playing goalie, the one position that holds the balance of the scoreboard. The second reason is being a part of a team. This is important to me because it gives a strong sense of purpose to the player.
This reflects the reality of decision-making in real life, where there are rarely simple answers, and the importance of knowing how to navigate difficult decisions in our own lives because, like Tim, we do not want to regret or be ashamed of our
Every time we make a decision in life are we influenced by things around us? In Tim O’Brien’s story “On the Rainy River”, challenged Tim’s decision if he should go to war where there is violence or to flee to Canada where there is freedom; although, his final decision was to go to war he was influenced by doing the right thing and the shame or guilt he could have felt when being faced with the dilemma of going to war. When people are put into a situation when they have to choose over two places most will go with what feels right, but others will go with what will be the best for not only themselves but others around them too. A big part of this story and real-life situations is that people want to make others happy and content so they do things
It is evident that equality and equity between genders, males and females, has had its struggles. This struggle to promote fairness has been expressed through various mouvements such as from the suffragettes emerging in the late 20th and early 21st century, and the recent He for She movement to bring both genders to work together as one. Despite these efforts, in the hockey world, male domination inhibits female athletic success to reach such high level. This is displayed through history, funds and media. Earlier times imposed that women work less on their athleticism.
The Princess’s resentment towards the lady spirals out of control and her already warped mindset is twisted further until it has surpassed the point of all rationality; pushing her over the edge and causing her to choose the tiger. The Princess’s catastrophic feelings of hatred and envy towards the fair maiden overshadow her morals; thus, she directs her lover towards his death rather than this enemy of
The Princess’s Choice Frank R. Stockton, the author of The Lady or The Tiger, wrote the story and left us questioning who might have been behind the door. The story is puzzling and mysterious all together. The story gives many evidences and hints to the princess’s decision. Some would say that the lady came out from behind the door, but there are several evidence that show that the princess chose the door with the tiger. First of all, if the princess chose the lady, she would be in so much pain to see her lover and the lady together.
In the short story, “The Lady, or the Tiger”, the author Frank Stockton describes a situation where the princess’s lover has been discovered and must face judgment by going to the arena and choose between two doors. He and the princess were not supposed to be together. The princess has the ultimate dilemma where one door has a tiger and the other has a lover. The princess is a vengeful, jealous character that tried to direct her lover to the door of the tiger.
So making a bad decision is never fun. I’d like to think that most of us prefer not to make them but can’t help to sometimes because we think a bad decision isn’t that bad. It might even be a good one in the right mind set. The point of this paper being to reflect on a pass choice looking at it with the elements of critical thinking. My bad decision is one I think most are guilty of, waiting until the last minute on something important.
