I became versed in four handed dentistry and the safety measures needed to pass instruments like the aspirating syringe. Some of my training also included learning the different fields in dentistry like general dentistry, orthodontics, periodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral maxillofacial surgery, endodontic, and prosthodontics. My motivation in life thrives when I face challenges. My biggest challenge was moving away from my family and developing my network on my own. Growing up as a member of a Korean family, our greatest values are gathering and having quality time. Thus, it was hard to accept that I am no longer involved in family times due to the long distance. However, as I had more time for myself, I could look back at myself and explore my interest.
My classmates, faculty, and coworkers know me to be an accountable student and employee. My experience in customer service and administration, paired with my education in dental assisting and dental hygiene allows me to be a cross-trained employee who is willing to jump in and help accomplish any task in the dental office. I understand the fast-paced environment of dentistry and am always willing to lend a helping hand to coworkers to ensure our clients receive the best care while we as teammates feel valued. As a student, I recognize that I am just beginning to learn the ins and outs of this profession and I have learned the value of observing those ahead of me. I take note of feedback from instructors who have experience beyond my knowledge and use their feedback, good or bad, as an opportunity to grow and improve my skills.
I have been able to work side-by-side with a Pathologists ' Assistant since day one and because of this, I fully understand their role in the medical society. I owe a lot of what I learned as a grossing technician to them because of their guidance, input, and examples. The more I asked them questions and the more I watched them work, the more captivated I became by their role and realized I wanted to be in their position. As a result, I believe that my close working relationship with the Pathologists ' and Pathologists ' Assistants, as well as the exposure and knowledge I have gained by working in the department will help me succeed, particularly in Loma Linda University 's Pathologists ' Assistant program. Loma Linda University is a good fit for me a few reasons.
Surgical Tech: As a seasoned surgical technician, I provided training to 7 enlisted personnel on all aspects of the department. Supply PO: As the Supply PO for my department, I have been crucial for the sustainment of the hospital’s mission and delivery of quality care. I efficiently and effectively managed an OPTAR of $156,129 in support of day to day operations of the MOR.
They are trained to understand the many dental issues that can arise and to be able to spot problems by looking at x-rays and other images of the mouth. Their main goal is to avoid gum disease, tooth loss, and other problems by knowing proper care to provide patients. After assessing a patient's mouth they will come up with a diagnostic of the problem with their patient. From there they will come up with a plan to treat the patient and prevent something from happening again. Whether this is from a procedure or something they do at home, their job is to educate their patients on the diagnosis.
Not every seventeen year old can tell you what they plan on majoring in without changing their mind but not me. I’ve always been interested in teeth. I plan on studying Dental Hygiene at Northern Arizona University because I want to be exposed to more than one learning environment. When I receive my bachelors in Dental Hygiene I want to stay in Flagstaff for a couple years and eventually go back to school in order to become a dentist but I would rather be practicing dental hygiene than go to dental school for a long period of time.

We help the hygienist and the dentist on the things the needed and wanted. My role there is to provide them dental trays, and equipment’s so that they won’t be behind for their next appointments with their patients. I have to use communication skills to know when they would need their equipment’s. If their equipment’s are not prepared when the patient arrives it would cause a major situation between me and the co-workers. My job is very important and I have to be cautious and be aware of my surrounding all the time.
