As a student pursuing dental assisting, I am dedicated to embodying the core values of service, team player, and innovation in my work. To me, service means putting the needs of others before mine and going above and beyond to provide satisfaction and comfort for others. When I become a dental assistant, I will strive to create a warm and welcoming environment that calms any existing nerves the patient may have. I would always have a kind and approachable demeanor and take the time to hear any concerns or questions the patient may have. Service is an important aspect of life to me. I am the community service chair for the sorority Zeta Tau Alpha at the University of Nebraska Omaha. During my time in this position, I have held multiple donation …show more content…
When I become a dental assistant, I will collaborate closely with the dentist, hygienist, and other dental team members so I understand the importance of being able to work efficiently with others. This calls for effective interpersonal skills, a can-do mindset, and a will to work with others to accomplish a common objective. Whether it’s setting up supplies for a treatment or stepping in to support a patient, I will always be prepared and willing to help my co-workers. I have exhibited being a team player in several situations. For example, when I worked at Smoothie King, my manager held a cleaning competition and assigned us to different teams. My team was able to win and succeed in this competition by effectively communicating with one another and getting everything done on time. Another example of when I was a team player was when I worked with my intramural volleyball team and taught my teammates many volleyball skills. While on this team, I had the privilege of having past volleyball experience, but most of my teammates had never played. I spent the time practicing with them and utilized my time by teaching them the basics of volleyball including bumping, setting, spiking, and serving. With my and the rest of my team’s help, one of my teammates was able to overhand serve for the first time. This taught me how crucial it is to be able to work with others while …show more content…
In order to give patients the best care possible, it is crucial to stay current on the most recent developments in the profession as new technology and techniques are constantly emerging. When I become a dental assistant, I will continue to look for opportunities for professional growth and go to conferences and workshops to learn about new tools and methods. In order to guarantee that patients receive the best care possible, I will also keep up with recent research and practices in the industry. I would share this knowledge with my colleagues and incorporate it into my practice. An example of how I have been innovative as a student is when I was given an assignment to obtain survey responses. To get as many responses as possible, I handed out a card with a QR code linking to the survey while I worked at smoothie king (with my manager’s permission) and in return, the customer would get $1 off their next order. By doing this, I was able to obtain the most responses in my
I’m currently a student at San Joaquin Valley College, working towards becoming a certified medical assistant in which I have proficiency in typing skills and accomplished CPR and HIPAA certification. My passion is the medical field where I can assist the needs and services of others while being able to connect and create a comfortable environment for patients. On an interpersonal level, I excel as a conversationalist to personalize each interaction I encounter. With previous volunteer work for organizations, I’ve come to realize I strive in wanting to make a positive difference in people’s lives and hope to one day be able to do it on a daily basis. Making a difference in people’s lives at times can take the littlest effort and in doing so
My classmates, faculty, and coworkers know me to be an accountable student and employee. My experience in customer service and administration, paired with my education in dental assisting and dental hygiene allows me to be a cross-trained employee who is willing to jump in and help accomplish any task in the dental office. I understand the fast-paced environment of dentistry and am always willing to lend a helping hand to coworkers to ensure our clients receive the best care while we as teammates feel valued. As a student, I recognize that I am just beginning to learn the ins and outs of this profession and I have learned the value of observing those ahead of me. I take note of feedback from instructors who have experience beyond my knowledge and use their feedback, good or bad, as an opportunity to grow and improve my skills.
Becoming a dental assistant is something that I have had a desire to do for three years. I had braces for three years, and throughout that time I was in and out of the dental office. Seeing the way these assistants helped my teeth and confidence was amazing. I realize I need to help people. With my background being a CNA for just a little over two years, I have learned to care for people in various ways.
Not every seventeen year old can tell you what they plan on majoring in without changing their mind but not me. I’ve always been interested in teeth. I plan on studying Dental Hygiene at Northern Arizona University because I want to be exposed to more than one learning environment. When I receive my bachelors in Dental Hygiene I want to stay in Flagstaff for a couple years and eventually go back to school in order to become a dentist but I would rather be practicing dental hygiene than go to dental school for a long period of time.
In the classroom I help those who need it if I have a complete understanding of the topic. If I don’t I will ask the teacher for help. When working in group projects I will usually take the lead and assign everyone a part to work on. Every so often I will check in to see that they are in fact getting their jobs done. My character and how people perceive me is another important topic to me.

But now here I am two years later working as a full time dental assistant and I have no passion or desire in pursuing in becoming a Hygienist because its not something I feel I could really be happy with and do for the rest of my life. My real passion has always been with children I have always loved working with children weather it was when I was working at a daycare in high school or when I was a cheerleading coach for young girls between the ages of 4-9, I have
During my placement I worked alongside the dental hygienist, this gave me insight on the daily role of a dental hygienist and therapist. Before dental nursing I studied BTEC Applied Science Level 3. The course involved extensive study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.
The ad read "Dental assistant needed. No experience necessary". After one year of thoroughly enjoying a new career, I decided I wanted to pursue dental hygiene school, where my desire to study medicine began. While excelling in my classes, I often considered switching my field of study to medicine because as much as I learned in each class, I wanted to know even more.
Dental assistants support dental specialists or dentists in carrying out dental routine. When a teammate does something wrong, maybe by accident or on purpose, a team player will call them out and tell them what went wrong. Communication also helps with knowing where players remain on the field or court. In volleyball, communication is very important because players need to know where their teammates are, in case help is desired. Basketball and soccer players also need to do this to know where to pass the ball if their teammate is not visible. Team players don’t just lead by example on the field, they also have to work hard off of it as well.
We help the hygienist and the dentist on the things the needed and wanted. My role there is to provide them dental trays, and equipment’s so that they won’t be behind for their next appointments with their patients. I have to use communication skills to know when they would need their equipment’s. If their equipment’s are not prepared when the patient arrives it would cause a major situation between me and the co-workers. My job is very important and I have to be cautious and be aware of my surrounding all the time.
In essence, teamwork can be defined as a group of people working in the same direction and for a common purpose. Teamwork requires individuals be a team player and to be able to work well with others; after all, there is no “I” in “Team”! As with any endeavour, we faced some initial setbacks. With this being our first college team assignment, we were all treading on unfamiliar territory.
