The main character’s journey is the most important way the theme of the movie is shown. We watch the character change as they change throughout the course of the film. She starts out as a child that has just been uprooted from her home and is constantly ignored by her parents. She finds happiness in things like looking for the well and wanting to start a garden. What Coraline realizes later is that no one is everything to someone. “To be totally all for someone, in fact, is to cease to exist, to be possessed (which is what the other mother offers) (Rudd).” The other mother is manipulative and controlling, she wants to be everything to Coraline to own her. Like when she says, “They say even the proudest spirit can be broken... with love. (Coraline, 2009)” After being offered to stay she realizes this and decides to stay in her world. Coraline knows that she can’t be everything to her parents, but they are not everything to each other either. Everyone is an individual but they share their lives with the people around them. The material things she latches onto won’t give her the human connection she truly desires, and that she needs others to share her life with. When she reaches the end of the movie the theme of materialism has come full circle. Coraline is working in the garden she wanted in the beginning, but she is sharing it with all the people in her life. The garden is beautiful but only by the work of her parents and friends, because the people make her life
The Crucible was based in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The book starts off with Reverend Parris finding the girls in the woods dancing. Upon finding them Betty Reverend Parris’s daughter and some of the girls become ill. Abigail Reverend Parris’s niece tells him that when he found them in the wood Betty was so frightened when Parris found her she fainted and won’t wake. With Betty and the other girls unable to wake rumors of witchcraft start around the community.
As I was reading “The Crucible” it gave the impression that there are a few antagonists that appeared throughout the story, but one antagonist stuck around throughout the whole play. I believe that the antagonist is the perception of the character 's reputation. It seems that the concept of reputation affected John Proctor, the protagonist in the text, and Reverend Parris. Back in the 1600’s in Salem, people seemed to only care about their religion, Puritanism.
One of the biggest shocks people hear when it comes to the Crucible is that those characters were real, which makes the weight of their deaths that much heavier. A total of 20 people died in the Salem Witch Trials: 19 of them were hanged, and one was tortured to death by pressing; that person was Giles Corey. Not much is said about Giles Corey in the play, but it is said that actions speak louder than words, and that is true for him. When he refused to utter the names of others that might’ve been involved with witchcraft, he set himself up to be tortured to death and yet never said anything other than “more weight” (Miller, 207). Although he is a minor character, Giles Corey plays the role of an anti-hero, who not only displays probably the biggest act of bravery in the whole play, but also demonstrates the fact that although the judges were “learned and all-powerful”, a high education and obsession for power cannot silence the tenacity displayed by such a truthful character.

“Character Analysis over The Crucible” Arthur Miller is a commonly-known playwright, most famous for his 1953 play, The Crucible. The basis for The Crucible came from the witch trials which occurred in Salem, Massachusetts during the puritan era. Miller even uses some of the same characters in his dramatized play that were a part of the original witch trials in Salem. However, Miller made a few alterations to the historical members of the Salem society in order to suit his dramatic purpose in The Crucible, particularly Abigail Williams, John Proctor, and Reverend Samuel Parris.

Coraline is a 2009 dark fantasy stop motion film based on the 2002 novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman. The film follows Coraline, an adventurous girl who discovers her idealised world behind a secret door in the house, unaware of the other worlds sinister secrets. The genre found throughout the film correlates with the dark fantasy genre, which is a subgenre of the fantasy genre. It incorporates darker themes of fantasy into the literary, artistic and cinematic works found in fantasy films. Additionally it will most often contain combinations of fantasy with several aspects that can be found in horror films.
In the film, we see that Coraline is being neglected by her parents. Not abusively, but by not giving her the attention she wants, buying her colorful luxuries, or cooking whatever she wants to eat. She is unhappy (and stubborn) that they moved into a new house, far away from her old school and friends. The elderly neighbors don’t listen to her problems when she goes to them to talk. And, the one kid that is her age, she thinks is weird and can only talk to her for a short while before he’s called back home.
Intro: Coraline demonstrates the concept of fighting for something that you love, and portrays this throughout the three versions of ‘Coraline’. She shows that she is a loving and determined character, and that she perseveres to fight for what she loves, whether it be other people, herself, or just to do what is right. The three main things that Coraline fights for are her family, herself and the ghost children, or the greater good. These are explored in depth in the novel, by Neil Gaiman, the graphic novel by P. Craig Russel and also the movie, directed by Henry Selick. Body: When Coraline enters the other mother’s world, she soon realises that she wants to leave, but the other mother is determined to keep her in the other world forever.
