This means that as time progresses, less and less company or institution controls the share of mass media. This process involves the media company of the same business. For example, two media company can merge together to form a larger media institution of the same purpose. In a way, this reduces competition because the companies will eventually work together as they are merged into a single institution. Media conglomeration means that several media companies of different purposes combines together to form conglomerates. For example, a book distribution company and a book publishing company can combine together as one company with two services. When the company publishes a book, the company already has a place to distribute the books as a result of their conglomeration. This process usually happens when a larger company buys the smaller company of the different purposes. Influences on parliament Influences on parliament is a factor that plays a very big role in creating new laws due to support and backing that some groups have which enforces their opinions and brings them in to the parliament. This helps them put their ideas forward and force them through the parliament so that they can become a law. There are 3 main influencers: • Pressure groups • Media • Law commission Pressure groups These are group of people who have the same interests in terms of making the government change particular laws in some areas. They mostly seem to target local government officers, government politicians and last but not least civil servants.
Market Structure - Oligopoly Oligopoly is a market structure whereby a few number of firms owns a lion’s share in the market. This market structure is similar to monopoly, except that instead of one firm, two or more firms have control in the market. In an oligopoly, there are no upper limits to the number of firms, but the number must be nadir enough that the operations of one firm remarkably influence and affects the others (Investopedia, 2003). The Walt Disney Company is categorized under an oligopoly market structure.
Thirdly and finally, it will give some examples of this phenomena. The formation of a cartel causes a lot of problems on the market. Cartels are based on agreements between different companies. The companies work together, in order to gain more profit for themselves.
Disney pursues vertical integration by increasing its distribution channels for its products in house. This allows Disney to not only have control over the entire product my beginning to end consumer, but it also allows for Disney to increase its profits by cutting costs. An example of this in the case is that Disney creates its own content in-house for its channels like ABC. When Disney first acquired ABC, ABC had deals with Dreamworks, which was a rival company created by a former Disney employee, to finance jointly the cost of developing new TV shows. For Disney, this deal made no sense for them once they purchased ABC because Disney has their own production studio.
Media bias is a real problem. When people are not aware of the facts alone, rather interpretation of facts, they are being manipulated. Media should report facts concisely and promptly with as much accurate information as possible. When networks allow to dictate how they report news, there is a much greater chance to be biased. When networks accept monetary incentives to report in a specific manner, there is a much greater chance to be biased.

According to the Fortune 500 list of 2014 The Walt Disney Company is America 's largest media conglomerate in terms of revenue with 21st Century Fox, Time Warner, CBS Corporation, and Viacom are amongst the top five. Other major players are Comcast and Sony. Since 1950 media conglomerate has become a regular feature of the global economic system.
