Do Two Wrongs Make a Right? We have all heard this saying before. Whether we are trying to excuse ourselves for doing something wrong, or we are giving someone else a hard time about something they did, do two wrongs actually make a right? Or are both completely inexcusable? With help from our five main ethical principles, I will be analysing what they say about two wrongs making a right, and therefore make a conclusion based on those principles. The first of the principles to be analysed, and my personal favourite, is the “Greatest Good” principle. This principle judges actions by analysing possible outcomes and consequences. It states that the bigger number of people to benefit from a particular outcome is the correct decision to make. This …show more content…
This principle states that every person is of intrinsic worth, and that everyone is created equal. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” This principle can actually be related to “Do two wrongs make a right?”. When someone is wronged, and wants to wrong the person who wronged them, and therefore make the second “wrong” to make the situation right, this goes against the “Golden Rule” principle, because one can assume that the person who wronged them is “less than” and needs to perhaps be taught a lesson. In order to want to get this sort of “revenge” against someone else, one can think that their worth is more than the person they are wronging, and therefore it is okay to wrong them. This means that if one did actually follow the “Golden Rule” principle, they should not keep wronging each other, and that two wrongs (or three or four…) definitely do not make a …show more content…
However, from the other three principles, the “Golden rule” principle, the “Relationship” principle, and the “Community” principle, these all directly correlate to how one should act in a wronging situation. They all give proof that it is not necessary to wrong someone who has wronged you in order to make a right. However, just because we have proof that it’s a better answer to let it go than to wrong someone who has wronged you, in no way means that people will stop wronging people who have wronged
What is the right thing to do? Ellie Wiesel believes people should do the right thing but more importantly choose a side. Indifference is worse than anger, rage, and hatred as Ellie said with those three sometimes good can come of it. With indifference you are only punishing the victim and helping to achieve the goal of the unrighteous. This idea is not only held by Ellie but also former president Theodore Roosevelt who stated “In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing”.
Capital punishment has long been a heavily debated issue. In his article, “The Rescue Defence of Capital Punishment,” author Steve Aspenson make a moral argument in favor of capital punishment on the grounds that that is the only way to bring about justice and “rescue” murder victims. Aspenson argues as follows: 1. We have a general, prima facie duty to rescue victims from increasing harm. 2.
The “Golden Rule” he is discussing about refers to the Bible passage that states, “An eye for an eye.” Again, Brown argues that he conducted violent actions as a response to others using
But one wrong doesn 't make a right, either. People who have been wronged will attempt to right the wrong; they would not be people if they
The Pledge of Alliances ends with ¨ liberty and Justice for all”. The Key word in that phrase is justice. Many Individuals all around the world desire justice. Today there are movements that try to achieve justice, such like the Black Lives matter. In human nature, the need for justice is seen is in real life and stories.
“Treat others like you would want to be treated. ”That’s the Golden Rule. If everyone followed it, and tried to understand others instead of judging them, life would be more positive. Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird shows the negativity judging others causes, but more importantly, shows that when people decide to put their judgements aside about others, and try to see their point of view, life becomes better.
In the story “Harrison Bergeron” they try to attempt to make a utopia by making each other look equal. Have you ever cut someone off in traffic, or didn’t call somebody back because you don’t like them? That’s just how our bodies and mind are, it would be impossible to make everybody in your utopia to not do bad things. The golden rule means to treat others the way you want to be treated, but there are some jerks in the world and selfish people. There is nothing we can do about it and it just teaches us how to be human beings.
In my opinion, the decision of the statement “The Differences between Right and Wrong is clear” is truly determined by the individual. When i said it is determined by the individual it also depends of the situation. Like i said earlier about if you would steal something to save someone’s life then it depends on the person. In my opinion if it means to save a human being then i would do
As time passes, we commit to many mistakes in our lifetime, but learning from our mistakes and fixing them is what makes us human. Many times, the consequences of our actions can have a big impact on us and others surrounding us, and many times those consequences can haunt us throughout our lifetimes. However, when we fix our mistakes that we feel regretful for, it is very important for us to forget about the past and move on. Our mistakes and the things that we go through define us and although we cannot go back and change our actions, we can still improve our situation and atone for our sins that we committed in the past. We must remember that there is a way to be good again.
“Another does wrong. What is that to me? Let him see to it: he has his own disposition, his own action. I have now what universal nature wishes me to have now, and I do what my own nature wishes me to do now” (Chap. 25).
Just think for a minute. Someone cuts you off on the road and you had to give them a piece of your mind. Or someone said they would do something for you, and they never did it. Or better yet, a dear friend of yours spilled the beans on something you’ve recently discussed in private and you swore him or her to secrecy. Yes, it made you upset, but was it that bad no not forgive them?
It faces its flaws and corrects them” ”. In other words Landrieu is stating that there will always be various ways of avoiding what is right. To do the right thing means to correct
By doing so, disobeying others and doing wrong may make you end up in a bigger, better place to live and continue your life in after
Confucius who lived from 551-479 BC, was a Chinese teacher and philosopher. He emphasized on personal morality, the way in which social relationships should be approached and many more such as justice. He had strong loyalty to his family and has huge respect of elders. A huge saying that has lived on for years is his principle “Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself”, which will be discussed throughout this essay. The Analects is a text structured by a group of Confucius followers which noted key terms of ethical perspectives.
In Plato’s Republic, Socrates’ argues that justice cannot make people less just. In this essay, I will argue that his argument is not sound, because it depends on the questionable premise that the practice of a craft cannot produce its opposite. However, justice can sometimes make someone a worse person. Socrates claims that if you harm someone “they deteriorate in their human excellence” (p. 34).
