Trump’s Inauguration Donald Trump was sworn into the presidency on January 20 of 2017. He is now the 45th president of the United States. Following a fairly controversial campaign, Trump has his work cut out for him in order to unite the nation during his presidency. In his inauguration speech, he motivated and inspired his audience using his well thought arguments and passionate tone, as well as his use of rhetorical strategies. Donald Trump is usually thought of as a powerful speaker partly due to his arguments. In his speech, his points were clearly laid out and easy to grasp. One such argument that he uses is America’s current state in both economy and general state of being, as he clearly states when he says, “We 've made other countries …show more content…

One such example is his use of a metaphor “Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system, flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of knowledge; and the crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.” in reference to our country’s declining economic situation, as well as the decreasing job opportunities for the less fortunate. He makes this one of his major points of influence, promising that he will raise employment and decrease those living off of the government. Trump also uses allusions to America’s declining education system in that previously mentioned quote which, if you look at the facts, is true, seeing as America spends much more on students than other developed countries, and still gets a somewhat disappointing pay out. He also uses analepsis, shown when he says, “We Will Make America Wealthy Again. We Will Make America Proud Again. We Will Make America Safe Again.”, which he uses to emphasize his overall message: that he will improve America. His use of rhetorical strategies helps him get his point across much more vividly, creating clear scenes in the minds of the audience, which makes his speech a success
